Logout Question

Why is there not a feature where you can logout to Character Select instead of all the way out to login or desktop?

It saves Support headaches resulting from Person B running up to Person A's computer while Person A is away, logging to character select, and messing with Person A's characters.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

It's for security reasons, so NCsofts butts are covered(and yours too) if you get up and walk away from the keyboard no one can just walk up, log out to character select, and delete your toons.

Makes sense I guess, but man it takes a long time to SG a whole account worth of characters.

Not really. 'Bout 12 minutes?

Because people who are careless about account security begged the devs back in beta to inconvenience everyone so they didn't have people messing with their other characters when they leave their computer unattended around people they don't trust...

I figure it would have been a bit more user-friendly to allow logging out to character select using your password...

I don't mind having to log back in, but I do wish we could skip the countdown, or at least let us use alt-tab without interrupting the countdown. That way you could do something else while it exits.

I play with mids and the wiki open in the background and often would like to check those while the countdown runs, but can't without interrupting it.

If you play in Windowed Mode, you can minimize the window while it's counting down without interrupting the count-out.

Or it turns out the guy (or gal) you trusted enough to share an apartment with is a total [censored].

Or maybe you have to go to the bathroom real quick, and your child who is upset they got grounded tries to screw with your characters.

But Tyger has always refused to consider those valid reasons to remain logged in where the current log-to-login or desktop only setup is beneficial, as I recall from the last time it came up.

So, instead of the current logout to login, you want to input your password before the logout starts to go to server select?

All that would do is move the password entry - it would not save any time, really. In fact, it could take more time. And it wouldn't be worth the time to bug the programmers to do it, much less have them actually program it.

If the worry is people deleting other people's characters, why not just replace the "type the character's name to confirm" form with a password entry?

I'd love it if we could do this. Yes, I know there are work-arounds, but working around a problem isn't the same as solving it.

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

[/ QUOTE ]While character deletion is a problem, it's not the only one. What if someone logs in to all of your characters and steals stuff out of your base, or respecs your character, taking all your expensive IOs? By forcing a login to reach character select, someone could only do that to one character (the one you were logged into when you walked away). By allowing logout to character select, and just requiring a password to delete the character, they could potentially mess with every character you've got.

I've discovered recently that if I hit the Windows key immediately after hitting the "Quit to Login Screen" button, the Start menu pops up but the countdown keeps going in the background, so I can switch over to another window while I wait. Gotta hit it straight away though - leave it any longer than maybe half a second and it'll interrupt the countdown.

I played in window mode, so can just hit the minimise button during count down.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

As a way to skip the countdown, and go to character(or server) select immediately

You'd still have to wait for the character to finish logging out, though. I think they have that timer to keep people from blipping out in the middle of a fight.
