Suggestions for my next defender please?
Well, you've already done a buffing set, so now it's time to try out a debuffing set!
Dark Miasma
Rad Emissions
Storm Summoning
Trick Arrow
Take your pick!
For secondaries, you'll probably want to go with Sonic Attacks, though all of them are plenty viable.
I'll second Dark Miasma, it's easily my favorite support set. However, if you're one of those people who doesn't like repeating sets then personally I'd save Dark for your next Corrupter so you can make the beast that is Fire/Dark. Otherwise, Dark is always a great choice, as is Rad although the only experience I have with it is as a Controller.
I'd say Rad Emission because it's pure awesome. Not that I'm biased or anything... >.>
I'm a personal fan of Storm Summoning. That being said, something with debuffs is your best bet. Cold Domination and Dark Miasma are probably the best overall jack of all trades. Colds have the shields, Dark has the the -to-hit. They kinda go back and forth. Pretty much all the sets are great, but those who debuff tend to have the best overall solo-ability.
If you want to be controller-esk while being a defender, I'd suggest Dark Blast or Psychic Blast. Though each of them tend to have their own pros and cons along with stronger controls and weaker controls. If you want for pure damage output, for both team and solo, Sonic is the best choice. It doesn't have much on the mitigation factor, but the -res can be quite tasty.
I say this from playing a decent bit of all of the choices for primary/secondary for Defenders. It really depends on what you're going for. Each brings their own unique thing. For soloing, I'd probably suggest Rad, Storm, or Dark. Storm, if you can understand how to manipulate the KB to your advantage, is amazing. It'll also help you see more value in KB powers and how Energy Blast can really become an asset. However, it's a big learning curve but it can get you very far down the path after you learn it. My Storm/Dark is great fun and after figuring out how to make him work for me, partly by running lots of 1-15 Ouroboros missions when I don't have all that many powers the other from TFs of various levels, I've come to find out how to effectively mitigate damage. He's also the character that really taught me cones and how to use them effectively.
Regardless, until you figure out what makes your defender tick, you'll probably have issues with making them work as well as you want them to solo. It's a long journey, but can help you play nearly all ATs better. Corruptors, Blasters, Masterminds, Controllers, and to a smaller extent Kheds and Dominators. It's all about find the one that fits your play style and maximizing on those power sets' potential.
I wouldn't recommend thinking you'll see great numbers any time soon anyhow for damage.

My standard answer to every person who asks a variant of "What Defender do I roll next?" is Dark Miasma. The obvious exception would be those people who just did Dark, but that seems to be a surprisingly small number of people.
Dark is versatile, simple to understand, and extremely potent. It also goes well with every secondary, and it pretty much has no holes or weaknesses. It's very easy to recommend.
If you're looking for solo ability and high damage, your best bets will probably be Dark/Sonic or Dark/Ice. Any combination would work, but those two would probably be the most effective.
Of course, all the Defender sets are great, so you can't really make a poor decision. I just think everyone who wants to roll a Defender should try out Dark. It is one of those sets that can really show you what Defenders are capable of.
Bye, everybody!

Something for Solo... hmm:
Have you thought of making a Kinetics/Sonic defender? I have one and let me tell you it can be quite the beast solo. Also when your on a team you will beloved and even hated by some. Fulcrum shift is a very, very, nice damage bonus to the team and if you work it right you can even have it up every spawn to keep your damage capped as well. Also, I am personally a fan of Increase Density because its kinda like a clear mind but with some smash/lethal resistance. Also, you can help take care of those who have end issues with Transference and stunt the regen of bosses with and heal your team with Transfusion. Did I mention that it has built in travel powers with Siphon Speed and Inertial Reduction?
Its a really nice set but there is only one small quick. Its a mid-close range team. You need to be in a certain range to gain benefit of the buffs but as you play you will pick this up too. This is just one of the combination's I would suggest. You could also try mixing Kin with Rad to make your powers more accurate too.
Thats the best solo Defender I have made at this point but the other posts above offer some really good advice as well. Good luck on making your new defender
Dreaded Wail hits things freakin' hard.. i like to hit things freakin' hard... so.. id go Wail... SAVE THE WAILS!!!! - Solar_Lunata
cold/ice. can easily solo, has great buffs, amazing debuffs, good ST damage, two AoE powers with blaster lvl damage, and snow storm :P. it is by far the most fun ive had on a defender to date. however, if you wanted to provide "teh 1337 d3bUfF5!!!1!!1!" cold/sonic would be a better choice. moar -res, kthnx. i use to say rad/sonic for whenever the question of "what should i do next" came up but that ruined the game for me. ( and i think that cold/sonic actually does more -res than rad/sonic but im not sure)

Truthfully...having run a Dark/Ice to 50. I find it's a great set. But for when up against AVs in some of the tougher TFs, I really don't see it as helpful.
Having lvled a Cold/Ice and a Dark/Ice to 50. Soloing isn't the problem...I've found all sets can solo with a bit of thought. It's the speed that bothers me. :/
My suggestion however...
RAD/Sonic (for the -RES aspect of Sonics) or RAD/Archery (for the love of Rain of Arrows)
Forming TF, AV, GM team:
"We need a rad! We can SK them up if need be."
Really. Rads/ are just highly looked upon for what I love to do in CoH anyways
And as I told people on my ILL/RAD before I respeced into Mutation recently, "No one invites a RAD for their rez ability" when someone complained about my lack of ally rez.
The team agreed.
Sadly...-to hit doesnt effect auto hit powers (but I still love the ITF )

As much as I'm known among my game friends for playing Kins, I think Dark is actually my favorite primary. It really doesn't get played as much as it should.
Dark/ is criminally underrated. I've leveled my D3 to 40 so far primarily soloing, but I always feel very capable on a team. Once you get your -ToHit debuffs rolling, your team won't be taking much damage at all, and even if they do you or Fluffy can throw out a heal. /Dark's damage output isn't tremendous, but the stacking -ToHit debuffs makes it very safe.
Although I love Dark/Dark, objectively /Sonic stacking -Res with Tar Patch (or Freezing Rain/Sleet) could be very powerful.
Dark's good. Very good in fact.
I'd recommend Storm above Cold - they're very similar sets with Storm being more solo friendly, Cold more team friendly.
I'd say Storm/Ice - I've got one in the 40s and he's very versatile and fun to play.
Storm/Ice also was the most consistent winner in the "King of the Defenders" thread earlier this year, by the way
Caveat: I'm not very familiar with trick arrow.
For solo survivability, you want a -ACC power so you don't get hit much. That's rad, storm or dark. For damage you want /sonic, along with whatever +damage (effectively) power you have in your primary (Enervating Field, Tar Patch, Freezing Rain). Storm gives you even more damage through pseudo pets (lightning storm, tornado) where as rad gives you a self-heal and a recharge/damage/endurance/etc buff. Dark gives you lots of control which is probably overkill on most solo missions.
So I'd go storm/sonic, rad/sonic or, if it appeals to you, dark/sonic. Again, dark/sonic is great but the layered controls are pretty overkill if you are usually just facing 3 enemies at a time--very nice on teams though.
Empathy, Sonic and Force Fields are more team-oriented that you want. Some of their best powers would be wasted if you solo a lot. Kin is OK but it really doesn't have an immediate "you can't hit me power" and since defenders lack mez resistance or armor that is a big problem when soloing. Cold is similar to kin in that regard--no big, reliable -ACC power.
Of course, all can work. I solo with my emp/electric but she is certainly not speedy compared to my rad/dark.

H341 M3 R1T3 N40!!!!!
I am working on making the second of each AT, as I have gotten my first of each to 50, and am looking for something very different form what I ran the first time. My first defender is an Emp/Elec, and is primarily all Empathy. I am a great asset to a team with all my buffs/heals, but now I am looking for another route. I am looking for a set that can run solo if need be, something with high damage, but still be a decent team player. I would say my primary goal however is running missions solo...something I can't even fathom doing with my emp/elec in under an hour per single spawn mission. So high damage output, maybe mezzes if possible and a few buffs/debuffs would be awesome. I will admit I haven't really done a lot of digging into the sets as I normally do, but everyone on these forums seems to know what it would take me weeks to learn. Thanks for any and all suggestions!
