So, I love Sonic. More than a lot. Everything it does I just find absolutely awesome, the -res (but I wish that was stronger) the +res, the status protection, the ally toggle kb, the phase shift. It's all dandy. But I was hit with something, that I feel should be added to the primary (and many others feel the same way) Psionic Resistance!

The question is, where to put it? Not the first two shield buffs, that doesn't make sense. I find that would make them too good at what they do. But I think, maybe a half the strength to psionic resists should go in Dispersion bubble, that is, half the value of the other resists, making it still frustrating to face, as you only get about 10% resist to it. But make Clarity give some psionic resists to your buddies! And make it shockingly powerful! Say, 30% unenhanced?

I think this fits thematically, since "Clarity" applies to mental Clarity. And it wouldn't last as long, so it makes for an interesting "who needs it most" buffing since, if you didn't run it like that for the most part, you'd only be casting Clarity.

Just thought I'd suggest it.

By the way, if anyone has sonic questions, send me a note...it's the only primary I play anymore .

I made a modest proposal to buff sonic resonance for corruptors in this thread. You can draw ideas from that if you like.

I would definetly like to see Sonic Siphon buffed to a cone, perhaps with the cost of losing a bit of -res? (maybe making it stackable for a few seconds with 3 recharges?)

If sonic siphon WERE to be changed into an area effect (something that I feel pretty neutral about) then I'd suggest doing a targeted area instead of a cone. Sonic blast already has a cone resistance debuff, and everyone knows variety is the spice of life.

I really like the idea of Clarity adding Psi resistance to an ally. Very cool.

Force Fields in comparison also doesn't defend against Psi with its ally shields, but the hardest hitting Psi attacks tend to have a Ranged components, so in effect it does. (And Dispersion Bubble has Psi defence)

It would also be nice to be able to add this to Invulnerable allies, and actually give them resistance where they need it. Having your powersets holes overlap with theirs is not fun.

Sonic Siphon is tricky. My preference would be to make it self stacking, possibly increasing its recharge to 20 or even 30s to do so. This would actually make it worth slotting, and make Sonic the undisputed king of -Res. Currently we can achieve 60% on a single target, half of which is on a group, whereas Trick Arrow (for example) gets -40% on a group. Storm gets -35% on a group with part of one power. For Sonic as a set thats very focussed on one buff and one debuff, that isn't a great difference.
Trick Arrow and Storm provide a wide variety of debuffs, Sonic specialises in one.

Also, I really like the suggestion in your Corrupter thread Fury, to give Disruption Field a longer lingering debuff like the -To Hit on Hurricane.

These three relatively small changes would improve Sonic a lot.

I'm of the opinion that a whole lot of powers would benefit greatly from this sort of treatment.

Add Psi resist to Clarity? Not gonna happen because it would be overpowered--> the Psi resist would have to be flagged as not stackable. The Devs have explored the possibility of having powers that grant status protection (like Clarity, Clear Mind, Thaw.....) not be stackable. And we know where that has gone.

Add Psi resist to Sonic Dispersion? That is interesting and frankly more likely to happen. But I would think it would be a unenhanceable 5%. Just like the accolade from the Rikti invasion.

But defenders and controllers can already get psi resist on their own if they so desire. I have the feeling that while many might like it, the Devs won't think it's necessary.

I absolutely [u]DO NOT[u] like the idea of Sonic Siphon being turned into a "cone". Not at all. Especially at the cost of -res and recharge rate. Horrid idea with those changes.


Not only no, but heck no. I didn't like the idea for Corrs, and I definately don't like the idea for Defenders. If you want to change something, change Disruption Field, Sonic Repulsion(<---especially that one), or Liquefy. Don't touch Sonic Siphon, it's a damn fine power for what level you get it and what it does.

The only thing Sonic Siphon needs is to be made fully, outrageously, abusively stackable. Infrigidate too. Why should heals be the only level 1 defender primaries allowed to be spammed ad nauseum?

Another change I would like to see possibly go in to effect.

If we, as sonic, are supposed to be "King of -res" Liquefy should have a -res component imo. The random switch from -res focus to a -def - tohit seems to not fit the bill of the set.

As far as changing Sonic Repulsion? Sure, right now it's a little bit lackluster (some might say very), but having a "few need to take this power" power is sometimes nice. If I were to change it, I'd give it a -res component to the enemies hit by it, making it still a challenge to use effectively, but also making it a bit more valuable.

My rant from the Underperfoming power sets post


-Sonic Resonance... my beef with this set is several things.. One its a pretty much a straight port of Force Field except with Damage Resistance instead of Defense... Detention Field is crap in PVE and Sonic Cage is crap as well.. and you know why its crap ?? Its not so much the effect ( which in itself is annoying ) is that it should be a toggle that I can TURN OFF when I want too...

Sonic Reuplsion.. yes thats what everyone wants.. Mobs scattered all over the place... not a team power..

I also hate the fact that one of my BEST powers Disruption field ONLY WORKS WITH AN ALLY.. the freaking TRICK ARROW defender figured out how to make this power a Location AoE but me the MASTER of Sonic cant figure this out ???!!!!! WTH !!!!! and he gets a 25 foot radius too ???!!!!!!!

Oh yeah.... Liquify.. what a piece of crap.. yes it works... but its still a piece of crap... First off all Sonic is all about -Res... yet my TIER FREAKING NINE has NO -res in it... NONE.... There is a lamo hold that I have seen work like once.. oh yeah and a Defense to hit Debuff thats nice.... but its equal to what a RAD defender does in their tier TWO power.. so the power I have waited 32 or 38 levels to get is no better than what a Rad defender got more than 20 levels earlier ??????? you gotta be kidding me...


The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

It's capable of being even more flexible than that. I'm pretty sure enforced morale from pain domination has a recharge buff which is capable of stacking five times.

They can separate the powers functions of resists and mez protection. This ALREADY exists in the game with increase density.

My suggestions...

Sonic Siphon (I'm assuming it's non stackable btw)...increase the -RES to 40-50% and add in some -REGEN (I'm thinking 100-250%).

I only say increase the -RES, for solo thinking. As you can't use Disruption Field when solo. Though that said, a troller and Corr (epic pet) don't have that problem. Neither will a MM when they get the set (Im sure they will at some point).

I also like the idea of Clarity and Sonic Dispersion addinging in Psi resist. Maybe 15% to each, unenhanceable.

Next thing to do, alternate animations, so it's not always coming from the mouth.

IMO...set would be complete. I would also be rolling one up again with something like that added to them.

Considering it's supposed to be a siphon, rather than simply a basic removal, I always thought that Sonic Siphon should act more like Siphon Power. 30% -res to the target and have it grant an unenhanceable 5% +res to all target around you for 15 seconds. That way there's actually a decent reason to use it whenever your group isn't on an AV/EB.

Here are my thoughts on Sonic:

Sonic Siphon: I recall this was an AoE when Issue 5 was being tested but in one of the patches that moved powers around it got made into a single target effect. Honestly though it wouldn't hurt to have it as a small AoE like Acid Arrow is and you wouldn't really need to change any numbers with it.

Sonic Dispersion: only thing wrong with this is that the corr/troller version's support loss doesn't match the loss on the shields. The Corr/Troller version could stand for a light buff to bring it in line with how the ally shields transition between primary and secondaries.

Clarity: Psi resist would make sense here as others have said.

Disruption Field: make the -Res effect linger and increase the -Res value to compensate for the handicap of it being an ally toggle and to increase the set's total -Res debuff contribution.

Sonic Repulsion: change this into a click power that knocks everything around you away and has a low end cost and fast recharge. You could also add a lingering slow effect and reduce the knockback distance to make it more surgical so that you can aim foes back into the herd if need be.

Sonic Cage: make all these intangible effects wear off prematurely after a set number of actions are made so that fast paced teams aren't completely halted by them. Something along the lines of that the chance for it to break intangible increases as the number of actions "IMMUNED" increases.

Liquefy: Bring the defender version down to 30% on the debuff values (since it's way over the top compared to what corr/troller values are). Also reduce the base recharge time for all versions to 180 seconds (same as oil slick arrow)

Thank you, that finally clears up its animation to me. The way the power animates always made me think it should be a cone. I always just thought the devs were crazy giving it that animation for a single target attack. It does not fit at all.

Try slotting it for -tohit, and rename it "whiffify".
