Costume combos being made invalid

I believe they've stated that there are internal reasons. It causes problems in some way.
The devs have placed a rendering limit (the amount of computation needed to display something) on characters. Having both wings and a cape or cape-like piece exceeds this limit.

Exactly. It's done to reduce rendering-based lag in high-population areas. Player characters have a rendering "budget," and the only way to increase the budget would be to increase the minimum system requirements of the game.
I wish they would increase the minimums a bit..I made some cool costumes that way and it sucks that I can't change them now that I want to.

Well as someone who plays on an older computer, I'm glad the devs don't agree with you. Sorry, you took advantage of a bug; not with malicious intent, and not to gain an unfair advantage, but it was a bug nonetheless. So just be glad that the invalid costume pieces weren't simply removed.

Think back to when there was no timer on halloween costume changes. People were intentionally flipping costumes back and forth to increase the amount of rendering other players had to do and caused them to crash out of the game. These limitations are in the game for a good reason.
...I forgot what experience means.
Although I wonder, with the graphic updates coming, if they won't up the specs a bit, or find some way to allow us to combine those costume pieces again.
People constantly switching costumes like that sounds like a far more serious problem than a handful of folks who bought the booster pack attaching wings to their trenchcoats.

1.) It's only a rumored graphics update
2.) Upping the graphics doesn't really mean the engine will be faster on lower end systems even if they did

Ya to at least allow the long shirts and capes/wings and the like. Generally speaking, unless your hardware was old when the game came out, the character detail budget with that setting turned all the way down shouldn't be meaningful on anything other than a million guys hanging out in a group for no reason. And if it did matter, them spamming abilities will hurt your frames much much worse.
I've got my stalker Artimis Setelana. She has 317 badges last I checked. Yay!
Also 2 servers worth of alts, 3 of which aren't catgirls. Mew.

"Graphics update," to me, means the game is going to look prettier. Which means, guess what, it's going to be even harsher on low-end systems.

I don't know, I question how horrible this "bug" is when nowadays we have rikti drones exploding ten times and creating a metric crapton of debris all over the landscape, and no one is doing anything about that...that seems way crashier than someone wearing a trench with wings, but what do I know.

Nowhere in the Magic Pack description did it say "this modified trenchcoat can be used with wings." And I meant REMOVED FROM YOUR COSTUME, I would think that would be obvious.

Yeah, and they fixed it on test. Probably will be fixed on live in the next patch.

Nothing, except the patch on Test that fixed it, that's probably going live on Tuesday so we don't suffer through Rikti Explosion Weekend instead of Rikti Invasion weekend.

Why can't they allow something like the bolero/wings combo when you can still have tux tails with a cape? I personal don't even use wings anymore (don't like how they look when not flying), so it's not important to me. But others apparently want it, so why the double standard? Wings/bolero is verboten but tux/cape is perfectly fine, something not kosher there.

The option to use the bolero with wings or capes snuck in when the magic pack was released. That option was removed shortly afterwards. People who still have costumes with a bolero and wings or a cape can keep the costumes, but when they edit them they won't be able to use the invalid combination anymore.
The bolero isn't going anywhere, you can still use it, just not with wings or a cape, just like the trenchcoat it's based on.

The explination I was given when I asked why my robe and cloak combo was invalid (and I looked SO GOOD *whine*) was that having mroe than one animated costume piece on a character uses up too many server resources to be allowed. Grr!
With all the DC's, mapserver errors and such that I have been seeing lately, I wonder if the server resources need to be increased somewhat.
And I always thought it was wierd that it's okay to have tuxedo tails+wings or cape, but not bolero or trenchcoat and wings or cape. I thought the tuxedo was based on the same principle- that flowy cape tail. Only difference is its size, being shorter.

Ya, plus you can add in the veil in whatever combos still work. I have a character with a tux, cape and bridal veil JUST to see how much flappy I can do. I like the magic coat and wings better though. Plus, rocket boots animate. Also! Animations really shouldn't be server side, we have bounding boxes not direct size interactions.
