What is NCCoin?
NCCoin is used for microtransactions in other NCSoft games, not City of Heroes/Villains.

NCcoin is NCsoft's new micropayment transaction system that will allow Exteel players to spend real-world money for specific items in the game. Specifically, players can purchase NCcoin through their NCsoft master account, and then use NCcoin in Exteel to acquire new Mechanaught equipment, weapons, and special accessories.
And answering the unasked question...it's in the EULA for CoH because, most likely, all of NCsoft's games share the same EULA (easier to deal with from a legal perspective)
I agree with your idea that having one common EULA cover all of their games is probably easier from a legal standpoint for NCsoft, assuming that's the case. But we must also accept the fact that having it mention NCcoin in -our- EULA does make it one step easier for them to introduce NCcoins into -our- game if they wanted to.
I'm not necessarily trying to imply that's a good or bad thing. I'm just stating that if they wanted to formalize the concept of microtransactions in this game that this would be a step towards that.

I have sent PMs regarding use of NCcoin on CoX but have gotten no response.
I would love it if NCCoin were usable for monthly subs as well as the Boosters. My family is always trying to figure out what to get me for holidays, and a couple of NCcoin cards would be great if they applied to this game.

You obviously don't understand the purpose of NCcoin. Exteel is a free game. There is no monthly subscription. NCcoins are used to buy in game items to trick out a players Mechanaught.
If your family wants to get you something, they can buy you a 30 or 60 day PlayNC time card, or even a $20 CoH game card which comes with the nifty Jetpack.

NCcoin is a virtual currency provided by NCsoft to buy in-game microtransaction items. I really don't understand how the Boosters wouldn't fall into that category.
As for the time cards, they are not readily available at most retailers since they take up too much shelf space due to being packaged in a DVD case.
The only ones that are available at most retailers are readily availabe the $20 time cards which are $5 more expensive than a monthly fee.
It would be nice to have a means to buy the Boosters without haveing to give out my credit card info, use Paypal, or pay an extar cost for a 'rechargable' debit card.
NCcoin may very well become more popular if it is usable on other games aside from Exteel or (I believe) Dungeon Runners. I think a lot of people might give NCsoft's other titles a shot of they had NCcoin on the PlayNC account.
In my opinion, they are missing out on some opportunities here.

It's a "game" card not a "gift" card.
No. It simply lets you either a) create a new account with 30 days sub time or b) add 30 days sub time, with a special rocket pack for 30 days after entering the code.

Your inability to understand NCSoft 's decisions doesn't really matter. The games are different and have different ways of generating income. If you can't accept that, then that's your problem.

Speculation with no evidence to back it up. Oh and Dungeon Runners does not use NCcoin. The following is from the NCsoft support page.

Bummer, guess I won't be getting any Booster Packs then.
I wouldn't use PayPal if they paid me and the last time <well over a year ago> that I tried to use my bank/credit cards there were MAJOR snafus that ended up locking them up and days on the phone sorting it all out.
Perhaps NCSoft will eventually issue "gift" cards in the future.
...to the suggestion forum!
You could grab a pre-paid visa or mastercard (visa would probably be more reliable) then use the leftover somewhere
Or if you know someone with a Credit Card who would let you log in, let them enter the info, then you buy it and remove their card from file after it goes through while you pay them in cash - that's another way.
Sucks that your bank doesn't like NCSoft's system. I've never had an issue with my CU.

In all fairness it was back when they had first switched to "global" banking but the whole experience left a VERY sour taste in my mouth. It wasn't necessarily just my bank either as I have 3 diff credit cards and 2 debit cards with 2 diff banks. The whole thing locked up one credit card and both bank cards and tooks a few days to clear up so I'm not real keen on repeating the episode.
I might try one card and see how it goes. Iif it goes south I'm blaming YOU though>

I realize that. However some folks (like my family) actually prefer to shop at brick and mortar stores. There is also the issue of 30 day cards costing more than $15, and then there's s&h costs.

Target and Best Buy stores sell Exteel cards ($10 worth of NCcoin), as well as CoH and Tabula Rasa (which convert to $20 in NCcoin).
[ QUOTE ]

Which makes the Jump Pack the only microtransaction item for this game that you can get with a game card.

[/ QUOTE ]
Technically DR doesn't accept NCcoin, yet you can enter a serial code from a $10 Exteel card or a $20 CoH/TR card and get the corresponding number of month's worth of subscription.
Also, you can use a 30 or 60 day timecard from any NCsoft game and get $15 or $30 worth of NCcoin on your Exteel account.
In my opinion, it doesn't seem totally out of line that the exchange rate would be reciprocal. Obviously not everyone agrees on that.
Dungeon Runners will be accepting NCCoins towards the end of the year.

I think you're missing Sky's point - if we could use NCCoins for any sort of NCSoft transaction - be it game time, in-game microtransactions (server changes, renames, character slots) or game related transactions (booster packs, the jet pack power) it would be a nice additional option for us players and our families. That's really the gist of it.
Certainly as a SG leader it'd be great for me as I could give away cards and let the players decide how they're going to use them. Free month? Buy goodies? Whatever.
You can use Time Cards to buy NCCoins.
You can also buy NCCoin Cards from 7-11, Best Buy, etc. They're the ones with Exteel on them.
It would be a good solution for gifting. Give us the option to pay by credit, debit, time card, Pay Pal or NCCoin. COH, Guild Wars, and Lineage II all have things to be bought outside the game subscription. Also, by allowing us to pay by NCCoin, that would make the option more attractive plus leftover NCCoins from a $15 time card could find their way into Exteel or Dungeon Runners.

You will never get an official response here. This is the Players asking players section of the forum.
If you want an "official" response you need to direct your question to customer support. You can do that by clicking on the support button on your CoH updater. Then follow the instruction there to get an "official" answer to your question.

So, why can't we release our updates? We have no QA resources. The local QA team was fired / relocated to Seattle to work on other games. Since we have no QA resources assigned, we are not allowed to deploy any updates.

Is the future of Dungeon Runners certain? Nope. It's possible that we could all get fired and the game could be shutdown.

From the second post:
[ QUOTE ]
It's a matter of money, sorry to say. It costs us money to run servers and pay employees. Without NCcoin (or TURDs) in place, there's an upper-limit to how much money hardcore players can invest in the game ($5/month). Until that system is in place, we need to work on our conversion rate from free to paid.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seems they can't keep the game running on just $5 dollars a month, and they desperately need NCcoin to keep the game alive or upper management will kill it.
[ QUOTE ]
Our long-term goal is to get item sales into the game with NCcoin. That's been delayed until late this year. This will really help us out.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
The only two feasible options we have right now are: leave things alone or incentivize membership. What better way to incentivize membership than to make the free player experience less attractive?
[/ QUOTE ]
This sounds dangerous. When players get the idea that they are being punished they quit. Ask the PvPer's here if they noticed a change in the PvP population when the devs made their latest changes. In this game however the PvP population was very small, in DR the number of players that pay are the minority. This enticement scheme could backfire.
[ QUOTE ]
The bottom line is that we need to (at least) cover our expenses.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's the difference between this game and Dungeon Runners. CoH is already profitable and doesn't need to have NCcoin added as a feature in a desperate attempt to earn enough money to keep the game active.
And for the record I do hope that upper management keeps DR alive.

There's not quite a two-month difference between the two posts; they just put a new update on their test server prepping things, so it seems they're going to be around a while longer. I did, however, want to point out they were moving towards it - should've disclaimed it better, obviously ("if they're still around they're moving to NCCOins").
But, still, the more NCCoins floating around the better for Exteel, (the hopefully still running) Dungeon Runners*, and any NCSoft game that accepts them as a payment option.
*I just sub'd to that. Fun game, nice change of pace.

I sincerely hope it works out for them. I own a copy of the game myself but couldn't afford the sub. Between it and CoH I prefer this game.
I do too. But NCSoft making more money will give them more ability to keep DR running until everything works out.
But, back to the point: if we can pay with NCCoins that's potentially more money for NCSoft, its convenient for our friends and family who go to retail stores, and the "change" can be spent in NCCoin games like Exteel and hopefully Dungeon Runners. Use them for yourself or to gift to others. In theory a win/win for everyone. That's all I want.
edit: I'm not saying they will keep DR going if they're making more money off of COH and their other games, but it certainly makes that option easier for them. Certainly easier than if they have to tighten their belts, y'know?
I just don't see them switching this game over to it any time in the near future.
Now if this plan is a resounding success for DR, and I mean more than just covering their expenses, then they might think of expanding it to other games like this one.
Right now tho it's still in the "I hope this works" phase for DR.

Not sure the reason for the "snark". I thought the OP made a reasonable point.
Further, I'm not sure you understand the purpose of NCCoin. It is obviously designed for microtransactions across many games. It it was only for Exteel, it would be called ExteelCoin.
The fact that plans are in the works for expansion of their use from Exteel over to DR proves this. As DR is also a sub based game, at least in part, your premise that NCCoin is only for NC's "free" games is clearly incorrect.
I wouldn't use them myself, but more choice on balance is always better, and I would support the OP's suggestion. It's too bad his PMs have received no response from the powers that be.
