cant decide between Regen/Inv/SD/ Possibly SR.
I like invuln on my kat scrapper, regen is fun too. Could use some advice for those who have played these combinations

My main is a DM/Regen and I love him for it. Absurd level of clickstastic fun and highly rewarding from a +recharge standpoint.

DM/SR, DM/SD, and DM/Inv all benefit significantly from sheer synergy though. DM's self heal and end recovery are incredible assets to those 3 sets that are notoriously hard on the blue bar (though not as hard on the blue bar as */DA).

Any of the combinations will be effective, especially if you get it to 50 and start IOing it out.

What's wrong with DM/WP?

Posted

there's nothing wrong with it ...

there are only four bad power set combos in all the options of the scrapper AT, and those are...
DB/SD , Kat/SD , Claws/SD , and Spines/SD

I'm afraid my advice won't help you choose that much. DM is a fantastic addition to any set. The extra mitigation is a boon to Regen. The self-heal is a boon on sets with no intrinsic (or long-recgharging) heals. The -toHit stacks nicely with SR's and Shield's +Def, and DM just adds more tools to the mixed assets of Invuln and WP.

Essentially, I would recommend you chose either a theme/concept or a design goal, and then decide (or ask) which secondary will do that best, and then perhaps slap DM on it.

Of course, depending on what goal or theme you choose, we might recommend another primary, but DM is definitely a nice set.

Blue
American Steele: 50 BS/Inv
Nightfall: 50 DDD
Sable Slayer: 50 DM/Rgn
Fortune's Shadow: 50 Dark/Psi
WinterStrike: 47 Ice/Dev
Quantum Well: 43 Inv/EM
Twilit Destiny: 43 MA/DA
Red
Shadowslip: 50 DDC
Final Rest: 50 MA/Rgn
Abyssal Frost: 50 Ice/Dark
Golden Ember: 50 SM/FA

I decided to go with SR. Easy to softcap for a cheap price. made a quickie build in mids with SO's and got almost 40% melee/aoe/ranged

yes it is easy to softcap dm/sr with very cheap IO's the 3% one in tough and you are almost gold right there

Take siphon life early in the build with it's recent buff it is a must have in your attack chain

Please reconsider and roll a DM/SD! The added damage from Soul Drain and AAO is simply...amazing. The tohitdebuffs will stack with your defensive numbers and Siphon Life is god's gift to all sets but SD loves it more than most. Also consider that DM is a little short on AoE damage. You'll no doubt be aware of Shield Charge and what that can do. DM/SR is a fine toon but it can't hold it's awesome in face of a DM/SD.

DM also allows for a soft-capped to all positons build. Takes a few more ToD's here and there but it's not horrible. GO for the gusto and roll a DM/SD!

I will tell yuo right now the set is a late bloomer early on it is going to feel a little under whelming but siphon life and the -tohit will mask some of that for you but when you get it sloted and get around 30% defense you will start to notice when you hit all soft cap you are going to think you can do anything anytime

Yea, I am well aware of how well Shield Defense is. Got a 43 Shield/SS tanker doesnt even feel like a tanker. I wanted to make DM/SD but imo i see too many, rather play something I don't see as often. ala my katana/invuln.

Nice thing about SR is that the def debuff resistance is the highest of all the defense sets. 90% if properly slotted. As awesome as SD is, I don't believe it comes close. Depends if you want a bit more safety (SR) or a larger helping of damage (SD).

Good morning. I got to this thread late, and see you have already chosen a Dark/SR. You will not regret it at all.

My Dark/SR, Valkii, is I think level 44. My first inking at how great SR truly is, came when I was doing a Malta Mission and found myself being sapped by two sappers...My first thought was "Oh Darn" followed by "WTF" when I, to my shock and awe, realized my blue bar was still completely full

As far as a build goes, take everything on the SR side with the exception of Elude...maybe. Elude I am not sure about and plan on starting a thread on the subject when I get home from work today. I have a love/hate relationship going with that power.

So far, the only enemy I have had kitten fits with came from the AE. I did an AE arc featuring Electric/Electric Brutes and they had me as the main course for lunch.

I hear Romans are hard on SR too. I need to go back to Romanland and play a few missions to judge for myself the validity of this as far as Valkii goes.

I say this because not all /SR builds are the same. Different slotting, different set bonuses, different primaries, different inspiration usages, different nuts behind the keyboard, all can make a difference in survivablity.

Oh, two last things.. Firstly, slot for endurance. Slot Dark Consumption well. It will be your best friend..especially if you have Elude..mutter, mutter...

The second thing, and I will probably be jeered at for saying this, but slot Siphon Life for heals. Yes it is a very good damage power, but unless you take Aid Self, it is also your only source of, well, life. I slot Siphon Life for damage on Battlesneeze Jessie, my Dark/Regen, but on Valkii, she gets the heals.

Good luck with your new scrapper. When you get high enough in levels to have all your SR powers you will truly be grinning ear to ear

Dark/Shields, huh??? Hmmmm.....

So don't wait for heroes, do it yourself

Here's my AV build. It's a bit out of date, though, with no I13+ IOs. It's not a general purpose build. For that, I'd at least want to add a travel power, Shadow Maul, and slot Siphon Life for damage rather than healing. It runs the Smite -> Midnight Grasp -> Smite -> Siphon Life chain with "perma" Hasten (about 2 seconds off). It has sustainable endurance use.

Hehe I liked it too. Mostly because as I started reading it I was preparing my post to let the noob know that DB/SD isn't a possible combination, then I was gonna add that Kat/SD wasn't possible either, AND THEN, OMG, Claws/SD.... Hey waittaminute! I get it now!

DB/SD, mmmmmhhhh...

It's a tragedy they made Shield so über only to restrict it to a few powersets. Look, I'm a superhero, I can carry a shield between my teeth if I need to...

... especially if it gives me a 80% damage boost when surrounded by a crowd.

SR doesn't have any trouble with romans. with 95% def debuff, it takes quite a few lucky shots to get you spiraling downward. but as you will find after a whole lot of play, they can get lucky at any time. A few lts that your just not even worried about can hit you twice in a row and your dead and you don't even see it comin. Its the exception, but it happens.

This is my AV killer, he also can fight large groups and wades through anything but the most difficult TFs and has only died once on a hami raid... the team I was on didn't have tp ready at that time.

Hi all,
Just back to the game, don't want to hijack the thread but...Why no touch of fear? has there been some significant changes? I haven't played CoH in quite some time (like since issue 5)

Thanks

Well ToF is a great power it just doesn't fit with most Scrappers builds. Me I don't like it because I just want to kill stuff and ToF holds up my killing

Also a lot of Scrappers here build to solo AV and ToF is no good for that.

Nothing is wrong with the power, It just doesn't fit into a lot of ppls build.

Also in i12(?) Dark Melee got a buff so it makes it a lot harder to make builds. Like having SL a must take now, I don't know all of the buffs to the set but Dark Melee is now a great set.
