Cool floating island zone...?
Shadow Shard. Accessible through Peregrine Island, and being level 40+.
There are some mission givers there, but they mainly are like Levantera or a typical Radio mission; no arc, just constant missions, repeated. Otherwise, there's getting the Overseer badge and also some major taskforces (and the longest ones in the game.)

Shadow Shard is a beautiful zone. It's what is visible through the walls and floors in Pocket D.
What to do there?
Fall a lot.
Look at the pretty plants, and run away from eyeballs who want to eat you.

This all sounds like fun - except maybe the falling part.
*heading to the Wiki to read more about the Shadow Shard*
Thanks for the help!
Actually the falling is pretty hilarous when you do it right

You mean the whole arms flailing while going 'omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg i'm gonna diiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeee omg omg omg omg omg this is really high up omg omg omg omg omg omg-' then suddenly be standing on the ground in Firebase Zulu while everyone is snickering at you for being a total noob to the shard?

Reminds me of the scene from "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey", falling into Hell.
AAAAAAAAHHHH!
[run out of breath, then pause and look around, still falling, not sure what to do]
AAAH...!
AAAAAAAAAHHHH!
Dude, this is a totally deep hole.
Yeah... now what?
I don't know.
AAAH...!
AAAAAAAAAHHHH!
Hey, you wanna play 20 questions?
Also note that most, if not all mobs in the shadow shard can see through stealth, even super speed. So don't even think about ghosting missions there.

And the Eye balls have crazy to hit, so if your a defense set like /SR it is going to hurt.

Found this out the hard way. "Hmm, I want the rularu weapons... Meh, I got visionary easily enough on my fire tank, and this lvl44 /SR scrapper has been about as (if not more) survivable, with a lot more damage... *10 seconds later* ohgodohgodohgod! run away! AAH! their optic blasts have snipe ranges!"
"My inner mind has become a reality-cracking overgod. He torments me! Help!"
The Shadow Shard is a beautiful zone to look at, but there's a reason nobody goes there. There's no story arcs, the Task Forces are ridiculously long, boring and annoying, the enemies are unfairly difficult, and navigating the place is a living hell if you don't have Flight (and even if you do, it takes ages to get anywhere).
It really, really, really, really, really needs a revamp. Making it co-op would be nice too.

One of my forrays against Rularuu Enemies was on a DM/SR Stalker... both of those evils conspired against me.

You mean Borea, right? Levantera has an actual story arc, while the Sadow Shard is just repeatable missions and taskforces.
The Shadow Shard is beautful and has soooooo much potential. It's sad to see it so barren all the time... If they could just add a few more arcs, and maybe GMs showing up on occasion, maybe even Rularuu himself...
I think it'd be a great Co-OP zone too, and perhaps a great place to experiment with consensual PvP (to fight someone, you challenge them - they have to accept (via prompt))... You know, this is the barren place, away from public eyes, that Heroes and Villains go to settle things reaaaaall old school, dual style.
The grav geysers are pretty difficult to use, but the jetpacks should keep non-flyers from having to start over, and over, and over.... I think a good tweak would be that if you fall and hit bottom you don't 'port back to base - rather you land on the closest Island that has a geyser (Ouro style)
No, they'll never have a /duel command in this game, ever, because the playerbase is very strongly anti-PVP besides a minority, and because it has massive griefing potential. We have arenas for that.

The first time my Spines/SR Scrapper went against an eye ball boss... I had to use Elude... and they STILL hit me like I didn't have anything on! I was one sad panda

Blech! Let's not make it completely a training wheel zone. If you have a jetpack and miss your target, just click the jetpack and fly to your target and continue on your way.

Well, I'm *not* a PvPer by any means. I've gone into the PvP zones a few times, fought a bit, got ganked a bit, but PvE is my thing...
However, I fail to see how one zone (Shadow Shard) allowing a /duel command would be problematic. It's the kind of zone where I see Co-OP needed ("hey' we're surrounded by these chtuloid aliens - let's join forces!"), but on the other hand it's also a lawless frontier, not under the jurisdiction of any Earthly power, so I'd think fighting ('dueling') would be more common, just like in the Old West...
Finally, You could always ignore challenges, and even have an option to not even get prompted, then it's no different than normal play. Sure you can have someone nagging you on in the chat box to duel with them, but I've had that happen with the Arena too. That's what ignore is for...

I fricking love the shadow shard. I say this as someone who goes there with a Super-Jumping Ice Tanker and tries REALLY hard to never use her jetpacks ever.
Damn near everything mentioned about it are things that make me happy. The eyeballs are awesome-looking and are really a challenge to fight - But they have enough non-eyeballs in their groups usually to make the fight fair, not just a mass of sniping autohitting debuffing death drones. Anyway, Soldiers of Rularuu are HARD to fight, and I love it. I love the excitement from leaping island to island via gravity geysers, and the tensity from falling actually being bad.
However, I should probably go into details on the things I don't find pleasing about it. I ramble about how much I love the place often enough.
- It's a bad place to bring a team.
Soaring through the air and navigating tricky islands is a lot of fun, but it is pure torture when a team is waiting for you. Almost all of my Shard trips have been solo, and I'm glad for that.
Having the time to fool around, enjoy the view, or screw up and fall forever is really necessary to your enjoyment.
- That Damn Bloodfalls Place. (Cascade Archipelago)
The middle of Shard Zone 2 is terrible to navigate. Mostly because your map is two dimensional, and the zone contains lots of huuuge islands far far above one another, along with islands that are juuuust far away enough from those that getting across is a huge brutal painful detour without flight. The outer edges of the zone are fine, but the center is just not okay. Beautiful, but not functional. Distinguishing one layer from another is tooth-grinding. Each layer should be smaller and closer vertically, I think. OR, each layer should be laterally displaced a bit so they're not literally on top of each other.
- What, no story arcs?
Yeah, this is pretty tragic. I do three quarters of my story arcs solo, and the zones right now are MUCH friendlier for the lonely. It seriously needs some story arcs. I also would not be against letting villains in the zone (Something to look forward to when I finally get a villain to the forties, eh?), but I don't want to fight them.
So yes. The shadow shard needs some modifications, but I fricking love it. ^^
Also: the entrance point in Peregrine Island is called Firebase Zulu. Till I went there I had no idea that and the Shadow Shard were the same thing.
I also never knew that you didn't GET a contact that sent you there. You can just GO there once your level meets the requirement.
If they ever do straighten out the way contacts and running around in Hero side works, so you can remain in one zone for the duration of your story arc or at the very least don't have to take multiple trips back and forth everywhere, AND that they make "go visit x thing once" missions *optional* to give another option if you don't plan on using it, they really should put a link to the shard when you get a contact in PI.

Not an AE baby, just a casual player (due to RL time constraints)...
But maybe a year and a half ago someone introduced me to, and held my hand as we explored, a beautiful-looking zone with floating islands that you had to launch yourself off of steam vents (?) to reach (if you didn't fly).
Which zone is this please? And are there arcs that take you there for a series of mishes?
Basically I guess I'm asking What is there to Do in that cool zone with the floating islands?
