Last year they did so some kind of freebie here/somehow connected to here, though I can't off the top of my head remember what.

An art contest or entry to a raffle, that'd be great. I do know that people were ebaying those codes, I can't recall - didn't one of them get up to like 400$? I don't think anyone here spoke up for having bought it, though.

Make sure to attend our City of Heroes® panel on Saturday evening (7/25) from 6:30-7:30pm in room 7AB entitled "City of Heroes® - 5 Years and going strong. How to keep your MMO Alive and Kickin!"

Go there. Meet others. Go drinking. Be envied.

Currently: If you can't go to the con, you can spend, to use your figure, $100 on eBay for a code card, or you do without. NCSoft gets no money from the code cards in any case.

My suggestion: If you can't go to the con, you can at least try to arrange for someone to get one for you at the convention for $5. If you can't get someone to pick one up at the convention, you have to do without or buy one on eBay for, to use your figure again, $75. All the cards that go on eBay put $5 in NCSoft's pocket.

How on Earth is my suggestion WORSE than the way it works currently?

Sure, it's not as ideal as your suggestion, but it is absolutely NOT worse than that current situation in terms of getting cards into the hands of players who can't attend the convention, for a reasonable price.

As for exclusivity, if something is only distributed by the original vendor at one venue, and nowhere else, it certainly is an exclusive, regardless of whether it ends up on the secondary market or not. If a vendor initially distributes something at a single venue, but then later makes the exact same item available to anyone anywhere without changing anything about it, it is NOT an exclusive to the original venue.

[/ QUOTE ]

a) It is much worse as it generates even MORE negative feelings than the current system:

Currently : I didn't get a code because I couldn't go to the event. That sucks cause I couldn't afford to go. Everyone who got to go are so lucky!

Under your suggestion : I didn't get a code because I couldn't go to the event, and the only friend I know who did go already gave out all the ones he got to other people. He's such a jerk! And NCSoft sold them to people who didn't even want them, and now the cheapest one on eBay is going for $50.00 and the bidding doesn't end until tomorrow night. So not only did they get to go to the Con, but they are making a profit off it.

b) This item is only exclusive for Con attendees if you actually had to attend the Con to get it. Yes, someone could attend the Con and then you turn around and sell the code, but that person then loses the ability to use the code themselves. On the other hand, if NCSoft distributes (either sells or gives away) more codes than a person can use, then those other codes are, by definition, not exclusively for Con attendees.

Well, when you counter logic with your own personal emotional response, I know it's an arguement I can't win, so I will concede.

It was the Freakshow Boss costume last year. I still have mine if anyone happens to still have the hardshell and wants to switch....

It's not an emotional response for me - I live in San Diego and bought my pass last year. I am going to get the code so it doesn't matter to me one way or the other. All I wanted to do was point out the flaws in your "logic."

Yes, your suggestions would make more codes available. However, the trade off in bad publicity would hardly be worth the small amount of income it would generate. People who cannot make it to the Con are already upset they don't have an opportunity to get the code. If NCSoft "rewards" attendees with not only free codes but also additional codes they can sell, the dissatisfaction would be greatly increased.

If they made it so you could GIFT an account one, that would be awesome. But so far I don't know that we can do any gifting *at all* still, which is something NC really needs to get on.

Personally, I would like to see these costumes that are given out as Cons be exclusively through the codes for a period of time - say 3 to 6 months. I would then like to see them go into the store for sale - say $5.00 a costume. That way attendees get a cool thing (for free) that is exclusively theirs for a short while, and then anyone who wants it can get it later for a cost much less than on eBay (and the money would be going to game development).

[/ QUOTE ]

This would be fantastic. Seems unlikely to happen, though.

Being stuck in Maryland, reading all this just makes me want to cry.

I wish these costumes would be released (together or one at a time) as Booster packs. At least that way, instead of us getting the actual code, it would be bound directly to our account, and NCsoft gets all the profit.

From what I see of the pic, the KoA costume (short blond hair) is different from the Halloween event version (who had the brunette Glam hairstyle) and I'd love one for both of my accounts as well as the Freakshow Boss and the Carnie Harlequin.

I got birthday money to buy a PPD Hardsuit from Ebay for more than a year's worth of CoH fees. If they knew how I spent that money, I'd be sprayed with Essense of Snausage and strapped to a tree in the forest.

I know it has been repeated time and again that these items are supposed to be "exclusive." But come on! If you're going to advertise it like this, knowing that attendance is limited, only one code will be issued per person and the venue is ALWAYS on the west coast, it is (yes, in my opinion) not only unfair but a bit of salt on a wound that gets reopened everytime there is a convention. Some of the attendees may or may not care about the item, but there MANY MANY more who (as proved by Ebay's prices) are absolutely feverish over getting them.

Costume Booster Packs!!! NCsoft makes its money and we get to have a costume ball dressed as our favorite hero/villain group all year round.

I'd still do the trick or treat mini game every Halloween event whether I had the outfits or not! I find ToT'ing fun and my new characters want the badges and the Halloween salvage anyhow!

GIMME please!!!!

EDIT:

I just bought the Super Science Booster pack for both of my accounts. At least now I have access to all the male and female costumes I've made to be used on all my characters.

I can't wait for the Con but I am a little sad. Seems like all the CoH community reps I know are gone.

I just hope BAB and Hero One are there. Those guys are cool.

It will be interesting to meet TheOcho. He's got mythos on Victory, the legendary and mysterious mod who really, really hates us.

HEY! I can't wait! I'm headed there later today, and I'll be there every single day! Woohoooooooooo! My first year as well... Can't wait to meet Hero One.... :P

Who were the people dressed as Ms. Liberty and Desdemona? Like, the actual people out of costume.

Posted

Well Des was definitely a hired model type. I don't know whether Liberty is the same girl that they've had before.

Someone tell me that these ladies will also be at HeroCon? I think it would be AWESOME to have Ms. Liberty standing on a podium and running the Live Mission event.

I totally agree considering that some people go to each booth just so they can profit off the SWAG. Just look at the details of the ebay sellers.
