how good is grav/nrg?
Grav/ is still a bit questionable, but /ea is now a very good secondary.

It's okay. I don't think it's really a "high damage dominator" combo though. You probably still want fire/ as the primary for that.
/energy is now pretty good for a secondary, but I am not sure how well it meshes with fire/ as the knockback might not go well with hot feet and the imps.
"Hi, my name is Ail. I make people sick."
A partial selection from my 50's on Freedom: Ail = Ice/Traps, Luck = Street Justice/Super Reflexes Stalker, Mist = Bane, Pixy = Trick Arrow/Archery, Pure = Gravity/Energy, Smoke = Fire/Fire Dominator
Energy after the buff blooms very early and has great single-target damage, but it's not top-of-the-line. If you want pure damage, the highest damage Dom secondary is probably /Fire. Energy's more of a versatile set, like /Ice, where it has good damage and good secondary effects (Especially in the new damaging Power Push) but isn't the best at anything. Energy has crappy AoE, though, so if you want that, again, Fire is the set to go for.
On the other hand, Power Push's Knockback doesn't work against Bosses that have any Grav mezzes on them, so keep that in mind if you want to use that to hold bosses.
I believe the grav hold is -100kb...need to check in game to find out for sure though.
Has anyone fully slotted Propel after the new change? How is the damage?
I have a Gra/Icy and I want to make my 2nd build an all ranged build just for different taste.
I am thinking about using Ice Bolt, Lift, Propel and BiB. I may skip Ice Blast (call me crazy!) because it only has 6s.
I don't know.. I am just trying to give myself a reason to take Propel again.
It may not be that bad an idea to use Lift for damage too. My current build skipped both Lift and Propel (kinda weird build I have to say) but I want to take Lift again. The listed damage seems to be better than Ice Bolt or even Ice Blast?
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
LOL. Um, don't take Propel on a Dom. Just, don't.
If you want the Dom damage king, go with Fire/Fire. Fire/Energy would be OK, too.

WARNING: I bold names.
/NRG is now great, Grav still sucks (but can be fun).
Grav/NRG is... decent. A good soloer, which is nice since no team will want you until you get Wormhole and Singularity.
I was wondering why the dev chose to buff Lift and not Propel? Propel is really a cool power but its activation is just so darn long. Can't they just decrease the activation a bit or increase the dmg a bit more with a bit more recharge?

The same reason they didn't want to fix Psychic Shockwave until the dom changes went through. Gravity has bigger problems than 'just' fixing Propel, so they needed to get doms in general to a good place before they started dicking with Propel.
Grav/Ice is now a popular PvP build, or at least it's going to be, so I'm guessing Grav doesn't suck now.
But there is a problem with the Grav/Nrg combo. A lot of the /Nrg powers have a lot of KB in them. Grav/, as stated above, is -KB.
But, as for damage, I honestly don't know how much damage that build can put out compared to other build combos.
FWIW, my husband's 3rd lvl 50 was a grav/en dom BEFORE they were changed. And he loves playing that character.

Grav/ alone has two 100 KB/KU powers in it plus more ST damage than any other control primary. It also has the unique-ness of immobilizes without -KB. ST holds are overrated for grav/ imo... especially when paired with /Nrg. You can quite easily keep most foes on their back and use the hold for bosses and pesky enemy types, or when you'd rather not have a particular foe(s) affected by KB. When combined with /Nrg, which is also is now a ST damage frontrunner, Grav/Nrg has the makings of a quite sufficient soloist and team contributor, as well as a ST damage king of Dominators. However from what I hear, having lots of damage capability from your primary as well as your secondary is a silly idea! It's really a matter of switching your playstlye to fit the sets and what they offer. AoE Soft control is not greater than ST soft control when you have a LOT of ST soft control... especially when you know how to use it and have the tools to do it.
Range is the cure for long activation times. You'd be surprised at the timing contraints you face when using a slow activating power from the same 80-90ft as other ranged attacks as opposed to just its base 60ft. At just base range Propel would not be a power used effectively as a short range mitigation power or a finishing attack, but rather a followup attack to those already flying up/back and incapable of attacking. In doing so the the activation time serves as a convinent filler for the KB surpression apllied to target and helps to keep them out of the fight permanately.(rise and repeat if needed)

No it does not. Would people please stop saying things like this?
Why, weatherby? Why don't you back up your stance with solid stats rather than your opinion?
Keep in mind, that ST damage from a primary is pretty much worthless on a Dom, since the Assault sets all give you much better DPS.
And another thing, those tests were done with no recharge slotting. Grav gets a decent showing there because none of the other sets can form a good attack chain. As you add recharge, the other sets will get tighter and tighter attack chains and will sart putting out higher and higher DPS. Grav, on the other hand, will quickly become bogged down by it's animation times and will lag more and more behind the other sets.
Umm no...... the test factors no recharge into the build. The test factors nothing but base stats completely ignoring the potentials of a wellbuilt, well slotted character. Hello?
Surely you can do better?
Ditzy sends her regards
Once again we are at an impasse of a seasoned dom player vs a new dom player that thinks he//she knows everything under the sun about doms.
One question for you. Have you played a grav//anything dominator to level 50? Not trying to be aggressive but ... I refrain from posting on matters of which I have no experience. Can you say the same?
Adding recharge makes Grav look even worse (by comparison. Read my previous post to see why.)

Nice thread.
Let me know when they do one for Doms... or one without containment... or one that doesn't use the AoEs and PBAoEs when testing for ST damage.... but nice thread. Grav/ does the most ST damage.
"Situational power? Sure. Although in a sense... all powers are situational. It's just that some situations occur more than others." Understand the situation needed in order for the power to be most effective... and make that situation happen.
1: All sets (except Ill and sometimes Mind) benefit from Containment equally. Any effect it has on the data is negligible, since it has the same effect across the board. If you really want to, add ~3-5 DPS to the Mind and Ill scores to compensate.
2: Since the tests were all done against a single target, why does it matter if Hotfeet and AoE powers were used? The DPS measured is still single target.
3: Please follow Ditzy's advice and provide Data to back up your claims.
To the original question: grav/nrg is fun... so far.
Made a new one with the release of the issue. Level 10 now, and loving him.
The combination of damage plus lots of control is heaps of fun. Hold that LT, lift that boss, push that minion, blast that LT, smack the boss, ooh, another minion is getting a little close, push and blast him, lift the boss again... etc etc.
Cycling lots of mobs, keeping them all on their rumps or held, and smacking them with newfound damage - it's interactive, dynamic, flexible and powerful. It's no AoE monster on teams, and I can't speak for higher levels, but the feel so far is solid.
I solo mostly. I used to play controllers, and like ice/ice blasters. I want damage with a bit of control.
so I figure I want a high damage dominator combo. Is grav/nrg good? Is the nrg so good at damage you want a more utility primary?
any thoughts?
