Do people still RP on this server?
Are you kidding Enerix? Everybody was complaining about Seraph cause he seemed like a Generic type. xD
That is strange though that you got reported. The person was probably trolling though. Should of just said, "[censored]!" xD
I know what you're saying Shadow. I hate people who RP... and then, when YOU RP they attack you!
Like I had a character on villain side, who is a crochety old supervillain who just came out of retirement. He's basically a homophobe, and so when I got on a team with two dudes who were RPing as guys "on the other side of the fence" I was practically reported. Had to ease up, or I WOULD have been.
In another case, I was on a Mutant extremist who HATED Arachnos with a passion, and so when a Spider came on my team, me and her had a very long (ver, very fun) RP session of smack-talking one another back and forth.
Well, the WHOLE time some girl was PMing me over and over and over about how I needed to be "mor nice" or she "would do something about it." Which made no sense, since she wasn't the team leader, and the leader knew that we were RPing. And no matter HOW many tmes I explained to her that we were having a good time, and just staying in character, she would NOT shut up!
Argh.
Now I'm all angry and stuff.

I was talking to a friend about this. And it seems the only way to solve this...IC/OOC mix-up is to make an OFFICIAL RP server...and it kindda made sense.

Wont happen. Servers are at low as it is so adding a new server would be currently counter productive. The best that could happen is Posi holds an event to vote for servers and basically rename the chosen server as a dedicated RP server.

That's why, as of late, I've decided to avoid RP. I've decided to join some VGs (which is something I never wanted to do, because I dislike the idea of cliques), and I'm having loads of fun. I just wish people in the "RP Community" were more respectful to each other and accepted that every person RPs for different reasons; and regardless of what their reasons and goals are, they're still RPing and enjoying themselves.
Then there is the endless sea of 'drama' that is popular in the RP community. And I'm not talking about in-character drama. RP is drama. I'm talking about people confuse in-character and out-of-character interactions, people who mix the borders of IC and OOC and let their feelings ruin plots that are potentially hurting their characters. And personally, I am also sick and tired of this type of drama.
Unless you roll a character who is a Generic Anti-hero #6625, people seem to dislike you when it comes to 'open RP communities' like Pocket D. If you ever want to play a true villain who eats babies and kills puppies, everyone will hate YOU because ZOMG YOU ARE A BAD PERSON BECAUSE YOU ARE PLAYING A BAD CHARACTER! I have actually had that happen.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've had this happen too. I'm really tired of wishy-washy RP where everyone has to be "cool" and "edgy" in the Socially Approved Way that the players behind the characters agree with. It's really really lame.
There's plenty of REAL RPers around who don't read OOC into IC interactions, but you need to hunt for them.
Maybe we should set up our own "meet and greet" place? The Monkey Fight Club in P-D is pretty empty most of the time.

By "chosen server" we obviously mean "Virtue" and I'm ok with that. They'd just need to give a free server xfer to all characters on Virtue who didn't want to be on an RP server.

Or has it become a pretty much a dead artform?
Im just curious.
I mean, consistent, plotted RP with activities and such, and not just Pocket D lounging, or forum Rookery silliness.

Thats ALL we do over here on my end in our SG. We have intricate plots, counter plots, and intrigues. We RP while we're missioning. Pocket D is generally avoided because it's pretty lame (see previous posts)

RP? What is RP? I've heard the myths of such things on Virtue long long ago, but all I see now is people cybering in the corners of the D, while other people pretend their characters are so cool and hit on other characters so that they can get some in the corner...
It's so sad.

I don't see that happening very often where I am in the D.

Have you ever journeyed beyond the Center of the D?

Its so true, So much Dude on Dude action, pretending they are girls, scary!
Jus swap toons to dudes on dudes, I wouldnt care, but when its 2 dudes pretending to be 2 gals, who are pretedning to have some pedo lesbian schoolgirl futa catgirl succubus action, something jus aint right there.

Whats worse is this is a "T" rated game which means one of them could be 30 years old, and the other one could be 13.
Really people... THINK before you ERP!

Exactly. And after a couple of years, I've learned the only way to do that, is to hop into a VG/SG that suits your RP standards.

It also wouldn't actually accomplish anything. I've played on a lot of official RP servers in various games. Some of them sucked, some of them were outstanding. But none of them were all RPers, and most of them weren't even majority RPers. As nice as having an official RP server where everyone RPs may sound, it's not enforcable. And besides that, you still don't solve any of the problems that come from OOC drama between RPers. If anything, you encourage it by implying to drama-prone players that their baggage and craziness is somehow acceptable since this server is "different, it's RP".
Whatever complaints some of us may have from time to time, Virtue has a really good thing going. I'd suggest focusing more on the positive rather than getting too dragged down by the popular complaints about the D and so forth. Just get out there, have fun with your friends, and stay out of the corners.
These horror stories scare me.
lol
I've been around the block a couple of times in CoH but only recently joined Virtue.
I have a villian or two on the server. The first one is some average join that got hit on his head, coming home from a costume party, durning a Rikie invasion and now think he a saxson warrior.
The real problem for me is I can not find anyone to really rp with....that and the few I do tend to find tend to be flat.
I want to find me self a richard (lfgcomics ref)
My other character that in the works is going to be a young mastermind how wants to be evil but is a bit wide eyed when it comes to how the real world works

That is exactly the current problem with Virtue right now. It needs a gathering area for the RP community with characters who are not affiliated with any groups. Sadly, the only place is Pocket D and we already stated what's wrong with it.
I tried to create another RP spot. So did many others. But it never got enough motivation from the RP community. So I just gave up. *shrug*
Most of my characters are open for change, I've just not RP'd with them enough for it.
50s: Bla- Arch/Mental Cont- Mind/FF, Earth/Cold, Ill/Therm, Earth/Rad Dominator- Plant/Psi, Elec/Earth Corr- Fire/Storm, Arch/Sonic, Rad/Kin, Beam/Sonic, Psi/Time Stalker- Elec/SR Def- Storm/Dark, Emp/Psi, Dark/Elec, FF/Arch, TA/Ice, TA/Elec, Kin/AR, Cold/DP, Traps/Psi Scrap- Fire/Shield Tanker- Dark/Mace, Ice/Kin Brute- Claws/WP, SS/Energy, BS/Elec
I just recently moved to vitrue server for a few reasons:
1. Everyone on my old server were farmaholics who didnt want to team with anyone who couldnt get them from 1-50 in 2 hours
2. I rarely saw server events where people got together just to hang around.
And 3. because I wanted to RP as an evil human hating monkey bent on taking over the world through mind control and organized crime.
Now that I am on virtue, I RP on random teams all the time, or i try to at least. Rping makes me like the game more than i already do. Instead of thinking "what will make me kill stuff better" I think about what works for my character's concept. And in the end, it is just plain fun.

[/ QUOTE ]That's because 'the RP community' aren't a big monolithic entity you can influence. I have no idea what the [censored] you did, or what you tried to arrange, and I do actually pay attention to things outside my immediate area. You can't do much to influence 'The RP community,' especially when you're bound up in cliques. You can influence those cliques, but for the most part, people tend to let cliques move through them or past them, rather than follow them.
I just roll with crap when I see it fit to do so. If a day is bad for RPing or nothing of interest is going on, I may switch to an alt or log off and do something else.
Ah, this is why I rarely sway away from my Archetype Forum tours. I go to my home server forum for a hope of some amusing antics or pictures of characters in compromising positions, and all I get is this! Of course there's RP, but it has to come to you. I have a few pointers that should help you out.
There's two guides to this; The first is either make a godly, or just blatant "everything" character. Then comes the tricky part; you have to make your character original with the minimal about of work possible, simply be some sort of demon but say you're not, or be some sort of mutant that's "special". Then it's time for your story- the funnest part. Simply put that you have a VV page in your Bio, then leave your VV page a perpetual WIP, therefore never requiring you to write anything, but people will think you're working on it because you got a VV page for it! Now that you have your established character, you just do whatever you want and say whatever you want, because you can and you're superior(Pro tip: proceed to smirk and wink at everyone if your character is female, or be silent and "badass" if your character is male). You'll eventually be loved for one reason or another, but they'll grow tired of you, and you'll have to: Join a clique and shun everyone else, leave RP and become a PvPer, or go to CO in a couple months to start all the way over.
The alternate guide is just make a character for fun with a cool concept that you enjoy playing and find other people who like the same things, but that could take time, and you want results now!
(Note: I'm not saying everyone's character is like either example. Still, I can feel flames from here )
Your joking right? LOL say your joking. I still see broadcasts for LFT RP preferred or X level RP Team looking for 2 members on a daily basis here. Pocket D? On Friday nights the Taxibots gather for an evening of teaming or helping other players. I have stood on the platform in Steel Canyon and had RP going on behind, below and beside me half the night. It may not be as frequent as before but trust me Virtiue is still the RP server.
Oh and HEY I am one of those Rookery forumites... we aren't silly.. we are all nuts. hehehee Also run on the newly formed Rookery Static team that plays together every Tuesday and we may be crazy but we are all good players. So there
Were always the good guys. In D&D, were lawful good. In City of Heroes were the heroes. In Grand Theft Auto we pay the prostitutes promptly and never hit them with a bat. Leonard
Those women are prostitutes? You said they were raising money for stem cell research! Sheldon
I've never seen a team spot filling request ask for RP preferred. Never. There must be a private channel for that. But otherwise no it's not dead either. People come and go every so often. Person population has died down from their orgasmic fun with the MA and now things are settling back.
So it's a phase if anything.

I've done it a couple times. Personally though I tend to favor using the LFG tool and looking for people whose comments indicate that they RP. That said, I'm not usually looking for random people for a team, I'm more often looking for one or two to fill up a TF and may be favoring a particularly useful AT over another.
If you aren't setting yourself to LFG and indicating in your comments that you RP or are RP-friendly, you should be. Some of us do use it.

I've done it sometimes in Broadcast, but I find the best way to get RPers on the team is to ask for team members while In Character.

Way to miss the point.
This is a "T" rated game, which means it's reasonable to assume many people who play it might just be teens.
i.e. If you don't find something wrong with the idea that, if you're a 30 year old man and you're having cybersex with someone who, for all you know, *could* be a 13 year old kid, then there's something seriously screwed up about you in the head.
Seriously.
ERP with someone whom you do not know IRL is irresponsible. At best. Squicky pseudo-pederasty at worst.

The problem with Pocket D isn't that cyberers are there. The problem is that RPers aren't there, or at least that people think they aren't there. When the D first got patched in I remember pretty clearly posting here that the only way the D is going to be an awesome place to RP is if RPers go there, RP there, and don't just let the cyber crowd have it. And for a while, RPers did go there and it was awesome. Then they didn't, and it wasn't. You can say whatever you want about how horribly offensive it is to know that someone in the same zone as you is swapping the dirty talk, but when it comes down to it if RPers were there, it would be the place to be, no matter what the cyber crowd does or says. The RP community, such as it is, just doesn't want a central RP spot badly enough to make it happen. And honestly, I'm not sure what's so wrong with that.
Do people still RP on this server?
They certainly do.
However, "RP" has a very, very, VERY broad definition.
Sadly, there are a lot of people who believe there is a pre-determined, standard way of RPing. I've seen way too many people criticize each other over how they should RP that I'm just plain sick and tired of it.
That's why, as of late, I've decided to avoid RP. I've decided to join some VGs (which is something I never wanted to do, because I dislike the idea of cliques), and I'm having loads of fun. If you ever want to play a true villain who eats babies and kills puppies, everyone will hate YOU because ZOMG YOU ARE A BAD PERSON BECAUSE YOU ARE PLAYING A BAD CHARACTER! I have actually had that happen.
I used to play a she-devil who hated men with strong passion. One day, she was in Pocket D, and was having a very pleasant, peaceful discussion with a man about how his kind is a plague to society. I had someone send me a tell, telling me that they've reported me for promoting sexism. People need to understand characters do not represent people, nor do they represent their ideals and morals. And that is the cause of most drama in public RP communities.
So, I've decided to stick with people who agree with my views. And believe me, I don't think what I'm saying is right. It's purely my opinion. I just try to RP with people who share the same opinion. It's compatibility.
I suggest you do the same if you want to find RP that appeals to your likings and taste.
