Do people still RP on this server?
... the player of Enerix is telling off people about the moral and ethical implcations of ERP?
Huh.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't me that Talen was referring to, but just to make things perfectly clear; I am not the player of Enerix. I have never really interacted with Enerix or her player (as far as I know) and so on and so on. Still, I'm sure she's a perfectly nice person, and whatever she does with her fifteen dollars a month is her own business, as long as she doesn't shove it in peoples' faces. Figuratively speaking.

Huh.
Looking at your list of heroes and villains, I don't even know you. Chances are, you don't know me either. So please hold your snark to yourself and speak about someone only if you know them enough to make valid judgments.
I know what it means, I just want to know where you got snark out of my comment.
The word you're looking for is 'irony.'

Ah. Thanks.
But that doesn't really change my response. :P

Interestingly, I'm a big fan of the correct use of words.

Even more interestingly, the irony of this statement is about to become abundantly clear.
[ QUOTE ]
Smurch is one of the few people I've seen use the word "pedorasty" instead of the trendy, catch-all, oft-incorrectly used term "pedophilia."
Unfortunately, he used it in entirely the wrong context.
[/ QUOTE ]
First off, the word is "pederasty' not "pedorasty". The correct use of words does in fact include spelling them correctly.
Actually I didn't use the term "pederasty". I used the term "pseudo-pederasty". Since we're playing the Mister Pedantic Dictionary game, the term "pseudo" means "approaching, almost, but not exactly" or "pretended" or "unreal".
In other words, pseudo-pederasty is pretended sex with a minor. Which means I used the term "pseudo-pederasty" exactly in the correct context, thank you very much.
Next time you want to lecture someone on the proper use of a word you might want to read more carefully and check your spelling. It's very hard to play the know-it-all when you manage to get it wrong on both counts.

Two things.
1) By your own definition, the sort of accidental ERP with a minor is not "pseudo-pederasty", as it does not involve pretend sex with a minor. It involves pretend sex with an individual who probably isn't a minor (yes, I know people on this server have made up very young characters and tried to use them for ERP, but I strongly doubt that's the norm) , but who in the vast majority of cases probably is not, but where the other player involved may be a minor without one's knowledge. If you're pretending to be an adult having sex with another adult, the age of the person playing that other adult has nothing to do with what you are imagining. Therefore, by your own definition, not pseudo-pederasty, no matter how you spell it.
2) Given the benefit of the doubt some of us have given you with regards to how you characterize people who don't agree with you (Fernandes, specifically), you might consider extending similar courtesy to those who make such petty errors are misspelling a word.
[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]
No that because if I don't know you, then I can safely assume you don't know me either, simply because of reasons I do not feel the need to discuss, especially not in a public thread about an unrelated topic.
That being said, I'll just respond to your original comment:
Yes. I, the player of Enerix, am talking about moral and ethical dimensions of ERP and sharing my opinions regarding the matter. Your point?

Again, please re-read the actual post being discussed. I said that such behavior was "Pseudo-pederasty AT WORST". Meaning "In the worst case scenario, this kind of thing is pseudo-pederasty". I stand by that statement.

It's not that Fernandes disagrees with me. It's the topic he disagrees with me on that I find troubling. I genuinely wonder at someone's motive for defending an adult's right to engage in cybersex with minors. I think any reasonable person should. It seems a dangerously slippery slope to me AT BEST.
[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]
Petty errors misspelling a word is excusable in almost every case. One case where it is not excusable is when you are doing so when making an attempt to correct someone else's use of said word. At that point, you have invited the self-same scrutiny you have chosen to place another under.

With respec to actual sex? No. With respect to cybersex? Yes, absolutely. And the law which you seem to be so fond of agrees with me.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again you fail to grasp my point.
This isn't about the law. I honestly don't know (nor really care) what the law says about that sort of activity.
It's about if it's ethically appropriate or not. Apparently this is an area we disagree. I feel it's irresponsible and unethical for an adult to engage a young teenager in sexual behavior of any kind, including phone sex or cybersex. You apparently do not.
[/ QUOTE ]
Smurch, you're literally putting words in peoples' mouths with your claims. Fernandes never said an adult engage in cybersex or ERP with a minor is ethically and morally acceptable.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, he did. I said "It's a question of whether or not it's appropriate for an adult to engage a teenager in those activities. I think the general consensus in our society is that it is not. Do you disagree? " He said "when it comes to actual sex, no. When it comes to cybersex, absolutely!".
He disagrees that it is inappropriate for an adult to engage a teenager in cybersex. That's from him directly. Thats not me putting words in his mouth. Go back and read it for yourself.
[ QUOTE ]
I'm merely saying that unless the 30 year-old person in question KNOWS they are 'ERPing' with a 13 year-old, then they have done nothing wrong as far as the rules go

"But she LOOKED 18! Honest!" has never been a valid defense.

Not to get into yet another heated discussion, as I have my going on, apparently. xD
But Fernandes' response to the statement "It's a question of whether or not it's appropriate for an adult to engage a teenager in those activities. I think the general consensus in our society is that it is not. Do you disagree?" is rather vague. It could be interpreted in a variety of ways, and I think you just interpreted it in a way that was to your advantage. And I don't see anything wrong with it. :P

Yes, exactly.
You can't.
So you should behave responsibly as a result since you have no way of knowing.
Being unaware does not absolve you of ethical responsibility regardless if it absolves you of legal responsibility or not. What "the rules" are do not matter from an ethical perspective. "Can I get away with it" or "Hey I'm not breaking any rules" are not ethical motivations for behaviors.

Nobody is defending it. Fern and Shadow are arguing with technicalities. What they're saying is if one is so appaulled by the fact that they "suddenly find out their younger child is engaging in cybersex with elders" then the parents should of taken responsibility beforehand.
It's sort of like a parent who doesn't interact with their child and then flips out when they find out their child is doing drugs, instead of taking responsability they blame everything else but themselves.
Nobody is encouraging it, it's just one of those "minor shouldn't be playing it in the first place" discussions. If a minor is, that's because there's no proper parental control.

I didn't say my interpretation would be unbiased.
Here's is one potential interpretation:
"I think the general consensus in our society is that it is not." <--- you said this, and asked "Do you disagree?"
Fernandes: "With respec to actual sex? No. [I don't disagree with respect to actual sex and I think the general consensus in our society is that it's wrong.] With respect to cybersex? Yes, absolutely. [I do disagree that it may or may not be agreed that the general consensus in our society is that it's wrong.]"
I'm not Fernandes' interpretor. :P And as I said, I don't really wish to take part in your discussion with him. Just pointing out a potential misunderstanding.

I kindda like some of his movies. So thanks for the compliment! I love you too!

Smurch is one of the few people I've seen use the word "pedorasty" instead of the trendy, catch-all, oft-incorrectly used term "pedophilia."
Unfortunately, he used it in entirely the wrong context. This game does not allow actual physical contact. Until a person PHYSICALLY molests a child, the only thing they indulge in is pedophilia, rather than pedorasty.
Pedorasty is despicable, denegrating and foul.
Pedophilia is a sickness of the mind that may be treatable, as nobody has been hurt yet.
