Meh, I rp and have been with an rp group (NPI and then Templars of the Abbey) since beta. We have had girls playing guy heroes and guys playing girl heroes. We have even had some we couldn't really tell but they were great rpers so it really didn't matter.
Rp does not mean Cyber, its just playing out a role as if one would in a Pen and Paper RPG or act in a play. What makes rp neat for me is its just an ADD on to the game. It accents it and makes it a little more fun, making me feel like I am in a comic book.
If done right that is, however my SG beside rping has RPErs that are badgers too, and TF hounds and PVPers and MA writers and those who love to run through content and paper missions...well play the game, outfitting their characters hami's and purples and crafting...
You know play the game....if done right all RP does is add an nice element to the game, not become the only element of CoX.
For me its been 60 months of fun, for the rp and for the game.
Some folks dont like it and that is cool with me, If I am in a PUG that doesnt, well then I stay ooc and focus on the mission and xps. If they do rp well then I do the same as above but talk in character...
To each his or her own I believe, as long as the drama is low and the game is played Im fine it

I used to play Taxibot Belle, and I tried not to let on that I did because frankly, it's not of your damn business what gender I am. (Which later became kind of amusing when I was called a liar for honestly saying that I don't now, but I digress...) I've played other female characters too, about half and half. I've run across several guys who roleplay female characters, and yes, even females who play male characters.
Interesting point of fact, back when I was playing Taxibot Belle, one of the other long-time members in the garage was actually a girl playing a guy character. A really good-looking one at that, who didn't like playing girl characters because she didn't like people (probably people like you, I'm guessing) constantly asking her, "r u hot irl?" Nowadays, as far as I can gather, there is around a 50/50 split of males/females in the Taxis, and both have been known to play Taxis of the opposite gender.
It's not limited to games. Robin Williams played a guy playing a woman in Tootsie. Martin Lawrence has played "Big Momma." In ancient theater up until even the time of Shakespeare, men played all of the parts, including women. Julie Kavner (a girl!) does the voice of Bart Simpson (a boy!). Erin Chase (a girl!) is one of the actors/actresses who has voiced Charlie Brown (a boy!).

I've had that issue too. Something about using spelling (usually) and not maxing out the boob slider, I think... (My friend, on the other hand, has admitted he would not put up a fight if I wanted to kill him if I used an assassin with DD bra size)

Whether we're 5 strong or 50 matters not. We let in people we know and trust. Liars can join your SG if they want.

Intentionally passing yourself off as something you're not can be harmful and damaging to those around you. Not all Roleplaying is healthy, some of it is downright wrong.

I don't disagree that deliberately misleading people for your own entertainment and/or profit is wrong. It's totally wrong. In the context of role playing, however, it's totally the point. And in the context of some people joining a SG, it's no one's business than their own. Now if your SG/VG is actually a singles bar, okay then--you have to be honest with folks if you're going to be hooking up with them.

LOL I completely agree. I assume everyone in game is a guy, but when someone is sending naughty whispers to you it makes you wonder who they really are. I get this in every mmo I've played. I doubt the ppl who do it are girls but you never know. I group with them and shrug it off. I'll let them think I believe they are a girl but I don't indulge their fantasy.
In fact someone told me to my face I was a Buzzkill last night because I refused to play into their little game.
