What's so good about Air Superiority?

I agree the backflip animation doesn't make much sense. Plus, the two-fisted smash is used by several other powers, so I wouldn't be against some graphical changes.

I like the overhead smash, specially on guys that don't have one in set. The backflip tho.. wouldn't mind a fix or at least change the name to Tumble Assault or something.. first time I got that power thinking hmm this sounds cool.. went and used it expecting... well I'm not sure but not that.."what the heck was that crazy crap?!"

It is a great crutch for those that cannot survive with the other tools that are provided to their AT.

I suppose their is someone that fits that category since its a very versitle power.

I have a Fire/Fire scrapper that uses it well to help keep stray runners that my Tenebros Tentacles miss in my burn patch. Its quite effective. YMMV.

*rolls eyes*

Like every single power, be it primary, secondary, pool or epic, its a tool to accomplish a means to an end: the survival and advancement of your character. Its popular for a reason, and rarely is it because its an absolutely crucial survival tool. The reasons for this popularity have been outlined quite handily in the posts previous to needless quoted one.

Like many, I tend to take it regularly on melee toons.

Well, it's designed as an anti-Flight power, so the downward smash makes sense when you look at air to air combat.

I have zero issues with that attack animation itself, rather, what happens to the foes who are hit by it. Downward smashes should not send foes UP!

One thing that's not really been said yet about choosing Air Supe is that you need to have at least one power chosen from the Flight Power Pool before you can take Fly at 16. That gives you a choice between Hover and Air Supe. Depending on your play style, Hover becomes useless once you have Fly, so Air Supe is a great choice there, considering all the above. I took it on my stalker and at low levels, combined with other knock-down attacks and Caltrops, it was golden, much more useful than Hover ever would have been.

Not the I'm trying to quible here...But there are a ton of reasons to take Hover...and it never becomes obsolete just because you soon have Flight...also...I have toons that I never even took flight and just kept hover slotted for flight speed and +Def.

Sorry, back on topic, AS is great and I take it on almost all of my Melee toons early as damage mitigation, run stopper power, and -fly...I might respec out of it later depending on the toon but for lowbie toons it's a great all around tool.

Air Superiority on a Super Strength tank is ridiculous fun. Basically alternate between AS and ... I *think* it's Haymaker, but I haven't played SS in ages. You've suddenly got a way to reliably keep a dangerous enemy out of the fight pre-SOs, when most tanker defenses haven't "matured" yet.

I turned my Fire/Fire scrapper into a semi-super fire scrapper by using AS and the KD procs in my melee attacks. Not only can I put out awesome damage, but the KD effect is fantastic mitagation.

I swear by it.. I see no reason to nerf it though. It is fine for damage, but it is the knockdown that is so useful. I don't believe the devs would nerf it just because it is effective and popular. That would be stupid to tick off a lot of players who love it, for no real reason. It isn't an I win power. It is a good power.

One of the best uses I have for Air Superiority when I solo, or on a team that has no holds or immobs is on those mission where you can't let a foe escape or you fail the mission.

I keep hitting them with Air Superiority to keep them on their butts and work other attacks in. Never failed such a mission on a char using Air Sup. yet.

I also use it to knock flier out of the sky. Something teams tend to find useful when no one else can fly.

I generally slot it with 2 Accuracy enhancements and nothing more.
