Rularuu!

Weren't there Rularuu invasions of Paragon City at one time? I can imagine they'd be much deadlier than a Rikti attack...
[/ QUOTE ]Yes, when the Shard was first introduced (I2?)

Yep. There were quite nasty especially since they had no Giant Monster scaling tech and they tended to be mid to high in the zone level bands. They were nasty w/o a large group to back you up.
And from the invasion my favorite action screen shot of Fuzun in action. And some more groupEYEs. Giving me piercing chest pain. Me having to put my fist down.

Rularuu Sentries have an inherent +100% tohit.

I think the Soldiers of Rularuu are a relic from a time when the developers were still trying to introduced forced teaming by making enemies who were impossible to defeat solo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Interestingly enough, my storm/elec defender has no problem whatsoever with the rularuu. But then a strong -tohit, that has a repel, plus a hold and three damage pets will do that. The only ones that bug me are the boss wisps, cause they can det field you.
Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.

I think that's part of why it was dropped as a driving priority. You can't really make a boss that's universally hard for everyone, and the harder you try, the more you run the risk of making that boss IMPOSSIBLE for some while STILL trivially easy for others. The I3 boss buffs, the pinnacle of this mistaken thinking, proved that beyond a reasonable doubt. The herder bosses became only kind of meaningful to Scrappers, but completely impossible for Blasters.

Yep I was just in there tonight with my SD/SS Tank. I never faceplanted but had several occasions where my helath dipped dramatically thanks to those giant eyeballs. I have been there before with an Ill/Emp Controller and they also have outstanding perception.. saw right through my superior invisibility.. in short they are a pain.

I have a feeling that when the Shadow Shard is finally overhauled, Rularuu mobs will be given a looking-at (no pun intended) as well.
I hope not. I am of the opinion that there should be some mobs at that level that are deadly to most players. I really think Rularuu is one of the best balanced groups in that they have an answer for just about every powerset a player can pick.
I say let Rularuu and Malta be the guys level 50s are a bit afraid of. We already have a bunch of other guys we can shred fairly easily.

I've got the moves that make them all tap out.

Rularuu are worse than Malta mostly because you pretty much have to go out of your way to fight them. Malta are all over the place, so people are forced to figure out strategies to deal with them. Whereas Rularuu...you avoid them, avoid them, then finally go do a Shard TF and it's ZOMG OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH....Splat.
I think they're awesome. People need a rude awakening once in a while. Plus, they're totally creepy.

I really like the Rularuu as opponents. I am okay with some of my characters not being able to solo every villain group, and honestly, I like fighting exotic, strange opponents like Rularuu a whole heck of a lot more than monochromatic bores like Malta.
Some days I just wake up cranky. Today might be one of those days...

Yeah, you'd think those things would have lousy depth perception.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, if a creature only has a single eye, assuming that they've also got commensurately higher control of the portions of the eye, it's actually possible to get excellent depth perception by quickly altering the distance between the lenses of the eye (re: changing focus).
If anything, an eye that large would actually be more accurate because a larger portion of its brain is focused on interpreting visual stimuli and because more visual information is received because of a significantly larger retina (assuming that the density of cones and rods is similar to that of humans) and larger pupil.
A probable analogy would be that humans see in normal definition. The Rularuu Overseers see in incredibly hi-def. They've simply got better cameras.

That was incredibly entertaining to read. And thought-provoking. :P

Scary flashbacks of my SR scrap's 1st excursion to the Shadow Shard have begun.

If nothing else it's a very good way of demonstrating how good /SR normally is.
I remember reading another thread about Rularuu a while back and up to then I'd only encountered them with my MM, who had shot them to bits without too much trouble. It's good that cannon fodder for one AT or powerset can be deadly to another.
