I don't usually look at the combat tab, but ocassionally something happens that's so unexpected I have to scroll back and see what just happened.

So on my first excursion into the Shadow Shard, at level 42, after a surprise defeat, I see this...

[ QUOTE ]
Overseer HITS! Chomp power had an 88.82% chance to hit...

[/ QUOTE ]

Just to explain, I was on an /SR scrapper, with all the passives, and the 3 toggles, and Weave... and Elude.

So um... these guys are quite accurate, yes?

I haven't been this shocked by a first encounter with a new enemy group since my MM stepped off the ferry in Sharkhead and thought "Demolitionists, eh? They don't look that dangerous..."

Rularuu Sentries have an inherent +100% tohit.

Devouring Earth Quartz emanators also give a +100% tohit buff to nearby DE.

Neither Sentries nor DE buffed by Quartz get +Acc (except by level/rank midifiers applied to all critters); none of the Sentries' attacks have inherent accuracy bonuses, and the only DE with inherent accuracy bonuses on their attacks are the DE Monsters and Hamidon/Mitos.

That makes sense. I remember diving into a group of DE and thinking "Wha... they're actually hitting me!" Then I read the description on the Quartz emanators, which then went straight to the top of my First-To-Die list.

In a way it's quite exhilarating to suddenly encounter something that actually poses a threat, after so half a dozen levels or so of shredding every enemy I meet.

Haven't tried her on Malta yet, though

Actually, if a creature only has a single eye, assuming that they've also got commensurately higher control of the portions of the eye, it's actually possible to get excellent depth perception by quickly altering the distance between the lenses of the eye (re: changing focus).

If anything, an eye that large would actually be more accurate because a larger portion of its brain is focused on interpreting visual stimuli and because more visual information is received because of a significantly larger retina (assuming that the density of cones and rods is similar to that of humans) and larger pupil.

A probable analogy would be that humans see in normal definition. The Rularuu Overseers see in incredibly hi-def. They've simply got better cameras.

Thats what I kind of thought with my Claws/Sr. The Sappers weren't so bad, but all the other baddies in there ripped me apart. Great story Crimson has to tell though. Well worth the slow plodding of several weeks it took me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Is Sentries what they're called collectively? I always wondered about that.

Yes, Sentries have 100% to-hit buff. They also have a very nasty defence debuff that, because they're so accurate, almost always lands and WILL stack from multiple Sentries, tearing through defence quite a bit. I'm not sure if the AI changes haven't ruined this, but it used to be that if you rushed them into melee range, they would use their spine burst power instead of their debuff. Of course, that still almost always hit, but at least it didn't bomb your defence against all OTHER enemies in the spawn.

But the Soldiers of Rularuu aren't just nasty to defence. Resistance-based characters face strong psychic damage from Wisps and resistance debuffs and ally buffs from many Brutes, whereas non-melee characters face the Natterlings with their holds and slows, as well as every boss there is.

I think the Soldiers of Rularuu are a relic from a time when the developers were still trying to introduced forced teaming by making enemies who were impossible to defeat solo. Remember, the Shadow Shard was introduced in I2, and when that didn't work, I3 brought us the repealed boss buffs.

Aloore the Watcher: Aloore is Rularuu's most trusted Field General. He guards The Palace and uses his Sentries to keep watch over the entire Shadow Shard. Of all Rularuu's fragments, Aloore is most similar to Rularuu himself. This makes him skilled and useful, but also dangerous, because Rularuu is not built for servitude.

That said, running missions solo in the shard, a well built /SR can solo pretty much everything easily except for the Eyeball bosses. When the base bins run low, I like to take my scrapper in there and farm Kora Fruit for awhile to refill them.

I'm still annoyed that redside has no access to anything like the Kora Fruit missions. It's a lot harder to keep the bases stocked redside.

Really though, the minions and lts don't hit hard enough to be that much trouble, and I've found that it's possible to dodge the eyebeams reasonably well. The boss "blinkchomps" are pretty much impossible to dodge however. You just need some greens to counter them while you pour as much damage as you can into the boss. Luckily, they have crap for resists, and sometimes you get a Brute boss or a Wisp boss instead, which are much much easier for a /SR to deal with.
