@Celestial Lord and @Celestial Lord Too
here is a very basic outline after the fact that my sg used on its newest member. 1st 14 lvls I teamed with them on a new toon I was trying out, they were able to play found some friends in game and moved up quickly but still learned the basics of there toon.

Learning the game a Slacker over view of what is learned at the start.
Levels 1-5:
Movement: Getting around on the map via way points, Following someone, or location (Sewers, Train, Ms. Liberty)
Powers: beginning powers, what does what and start to get the feel of your toon.
Levels 5-10:
Pool Power: How they help and the striving for a travel power, subsidized with a temp travel power. What might be needed
Powers expanded: starting an attack chain.
Inspirations: Better living threw pills, what are they, what they do, and how they can mean the life/death of your toon.
Game sounds: The dreaded endurance Bong, Power down of powers. Tone of a flashy/clicky.
Game txt: finding a names boss in a mission.
Levels 10-15
Enchments: basic slotting, to add survivability, DO, and what some of the basic acronyms are.
Travel Power: Fly looks cool but is it what you want. How to run through the street and not be stopped by every trash can, fence or whatever becomes your lol bane. Leaping tall building into a mob of doom. Tping yourself into power lines, or other objects that make you not go where you want.
Levels 15-25:
Expanding the live of your toon: health, stamina
Why not more of damage, protection what not powers until later on.
Do you still have fun? If not have your tried something else, what have you learned about your play style.
Levels 26-50
This is where you start being supper or not. Time to expand of what you learned and start looking and invention IO replacements.

bah@Drama.....just having fun...can't help it when a simple post can turn into a flame...Hence why I try and not post too much...
Actually ran into a player that was lvl 31 and didnt know how to use the train system! I think the AE kind of spoiled a lot of good gaming quality....and having a lot of people looking in Champs...
Out of curiosity, who's planning on switching to Champs once it comes out? have had a lot of players saying they're quitting CoH for it...

I won't quit CoH for Champs, though I will likely try Champs out. But CoH has been the only MMO that really kept my interest so I couldn't see abandoning it all together...

Wow, this server has a lot of drama!
I think I picked the right one, lol.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seriously? You think this thread is drama? This is like a polite slap fight where we all kiss and makeup at the end.
Boy, I miss Genna.
Na Drama was Scooter Puff and Hami raids back in the day. This is nothing. Or even XPP01 was better drama.
AHHH Good times, Good times.
I have many reasons for why i say things!
Having 5 members quit AOW for DG in one week and having 3 return within a couple of days because DG was ignoring them as well as having 2 others say DG was soliciting them makes me think you guys are targeting us, especially since we never had anything like that happen, ever!
Braije was very rude and threatened me in tells and insulted me on BMT openly. I speak for myself about not helping, but under these circumstances i advise AOW not to help until DG stops this non-sense. you cant be mean to others then think we will help you!
As for pvp zones, i get shivans and mechs to help kill AV's fast. And FYI Braije i am not selfish, i have done all the AV's, i keep the mechs and shivans to help ppl like you. So go ahead and target me because you think it is funny and you want nothing more than to kill me (that is a direct quote from a recent conversation), i wont be helping you in anyway until you smarten up!
This is just a game, true, but i am not playing it to be walked all over by others!
I really like Onyx The Judge, Red Stone, and Shay, i just don't trust the others and that is a concern.
I will not return to this post so dont bother responding, you are judged by your actions, so unless you guys start actually helping ppl and treat others with respect my opinion stands, dont ask for my help.
And i know my actions will be judged, just remember how selfish i am teaming with almost everyone, helping them get to 50 doing missions and spending 100-200 million infl. per month hosting public events, something no other heroine does.
If you were really serious Shay, take these new people into DG and teach them on your team, take them on missions and explain how they can get better. get them to actually go through the motions and back them up! (yes i have always done that - AOW does not openly (spam) recruit, we team and invite the good heroes into the sg). Actions speak louder than words!
I AM DIVINE
In case you did not read it above, i wont be back on this thread, i lead by example, so time for me to get back to what is really important - teaming!

While I won't remark on the vast majority of this post, Felecia, and no offense, but there are quite a few other people who do just as much if not more than you for the server. They just don't make it a habit or point to announce their accomplishments. And I don't speak of myself, as I have a habit to hinder more than help, but I talk about other people who are active on the forums and within the community of Champion. It's also not my intent to take away from your personal accomplishments, as you do quite a bit, but until you see the bigger picture of everything that happens on the server, I wouldn't go as far as to claim what I quoted.

Seems like an absolutely wonderful idea..... much support on this endeavor. Although, it may not be advertised, this is something that many in my network work toward and would support 100%. An awesome idea. Bravo!

Um.....you criticized me in this thread earlier, saying I wanted to use this site as a recruitment tool for DG and now you're....telling me to use this site as a recruitment tool for DG. Of course we take these folks on our teams--in fact, I threw together a Cavern Trial tonight for our newer members, as well as others from other groups. The site is a supplement to playing the game and learning, not a replacement for the actual experience!
I'm sorry you've got issues with some of our members but I can only judge people based on my own experience--and my experience with DG, its coalition and Braije have all been excellent. B and Sinny have always been loyal friends, mentors and allies for me. I have nothing but mad love and huge respect for them.

I do spam the occasional recruitment message, but I team with interested parties first. While tons of spam is an annoyance, if it wasn't for occasional advertising none of us would be here playing :-) But if we only extend invitations to the 'good' players, how do the 'bad' players get to be good? On a server like Champ that isn't stuffed coalitions and SGs are important tools in finding teams.

Are you kidding me? Cobbie was entirely too polite in his response. Personally I think you are crazy if you think you are the only person who contributes to this server on a large scale. I am not even referring to myself I am talking about so many other leaders such as Amy, Steele Brigade, Iltat, Bronx, Tfury, Dazz, Nibbles and many more who run regular events, give away millions and billions of prizes and influence on a regular basis and do so without even trying to recruit for their SG at the same time, just do it to give back to the community.
Personally I am a little leery on the whole "teaching of the noob" concept simply because there are very few players, even long time vets who actually understand the mechanics of this game. However it does sound like the intentions are good and honorable. For you to slam those intentions of an entire group over a few bad experiences with a few people within that group is petty, immature, and not showing very good community leadership skills IMHO.
To the OP:
While I personally can barely find the time to mentor the noobs within LES which should be every SG leaders priority to do, I don't have time to mentor other noobs in other SG's. However if you need any help with anything I could do on the sidelines to help you have my support as would any community effort to help others.

Wow. Be very careful on that high horse. I wouldn't want the only good Samaritan on Champion to get hurt.
@Celestial Lord and @Celestial Lord Too
Speaking for myself, I can say that this is a project with merit. With that being said, the HoJ's current situation is like Kats, in that we have a sizable amount of newer players that we would like to mentor. If I am on and you (the players) need anything please feel free to contact me, I will try to help anyway I can.
P.S- My hugs are for free.
I knew i should not have peeked at this, but since i did, i will respond!
I think Shays idea is a good one, i am just not happy with how most of her sg is acting! None of you would put up with the behavour that is directed at AOW so what makes you think we should.
As for my high horse, i was trying to put down the idea i am selfish, which is an arguement i could see coming.
I do recognize there are a few that are doing more for the game than i am, and those people are the ones mentioned in this thread and those who have responded.
I just think DGAcademy was the wronge title to advertise instead of CoH Academy because it shows marketing for a specific sg, then they want our help? Now if you called it ALL-OUT-WAR-ACADEMY and joined our coalition then that would be a better idea (get my point, using a specific sg name IS recruiting for that sg).
[ QUOTE ]
P.S- My hugs are for free.
[/ QUOTE ]
The hugs are okay, but the other stuff worries me.
I think the idea has a lot of merit, as I take every chance I get to pass on knowledge and experience to new players when I meet them. The trouble here arises in that people begin making assumptions about who's going to teach someone how to play, what are they really passing on? is it a recruitment scam? this group doesn't like that group and etc. and so on and so on and so on...
The best course of action would be to simply ask for volunteers from any SG, who are willing to take the time to do a little teaching. I'm sure there are a great many people on Champion who would be happy to do so.
The biggest difficulty I can foresee is: How do you reach the very new players who are the ones who would most benefit from some mentoring? Most new players dont spend much time in the forums, and may not even know that they're there. So how do you reach them? (Other than hanging out in AP or GC and spamming like crazy, which would be both boring as hell for said person, and annoying as hell for everyone else)
Solve that... find an effective way to reach noobs and let them know there is mentoring out there, and you'll be well on your way to something good.

While i made my post, UC made his and it appeared while i was editing, he did not see my other post.
If UC had said let's make an Academy i would have responded fast and joined him - HAMMERS ROCK -
If Shay wants to form an independant CoH Academy and get people from all sg's involved, then i am for it! I will bring in a pair of alts and all the AOW resources to bear for this project!

There is plenty of unsung heroes in every MMORPG.
Furthermore, they dont need their name in lights or a medal on their chest. Just the simple acknowledgment of thank you from the plethora of players assisted is enough.
To the OP, best of luck and here is a few ideas:
I can tell you one area most new (regardless of MMORPG background) players struggle with: enhancements. They really can be confusing to a new player.
Another area is the concept of roles in COH/COV verses other holy trinity type games. In our wheelhouse here we dont need a tank or a healer. You can accomplish just about everything with any combo of ATs as long as everyone works together. That is an area which I still see players struggling with on a daily basis.

Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way.
Ummm...Juzam is right in both areas, and i would like to add enhancements can still confuse vets as well unless they do their homework (paragonwiki is a must). Yes teamwork can overcome almost anything but having the right builds can speed things up and make it easier.
Thanks, Hrist, you hit the nail on the head.
