I see more posts going in as i write mine, finding new people is as easy as checking INFO for badges and watching others play. Having someone in the Plaza in Atlas advertising in Broadcast would also help.

The biggest difficulty I can foresee is: How do you reach the very new players who are the ones who would most benefit from some mentoring? Most new players dont spend much time in the forums, and may not even know that they're there. So how do you reach them? (Other than hanging out in AP or GC and spamming like crazy, which would be both boring as hell for said person, and annoying as hell for everyone else)

Solve that... find an effective way to reach noobs and let them know there is mentoring out there, and you'll be well on your way to something good.

[/ QUOTE ]

This. While I think you are working with a potentially great idea and you will have an abundance of mentors available, I imagine there will be very few players that will openly admit they need help and are willing to be taught. I've got to wonder how many people will walk up to you, after sufficient advertising of this project, and go "Yes! I'm a horrible player and clueless, please help!" I could be wrong, but I just don't see that being the majority of cases.

As Ultraamann said, targeting these individuals will be difficult because they are often not a part of the channels or forums that the more experienced players are familiar with.

Once again, the motive behind your idea is solid and something I think we all wish would be addressed. I applaud your efforts thus far, but I feel you need to consider your target audience more thoroughly and how to best connect with them.

its like the old saying goes...

no good deed goes unpunished.

the player i was speaking about in my earlier post, while i did [censored] at him for a good mission or 2 during the lrsf, i did also end up giving him some pointers and taking him to oro to get his portal, i also told him to go to paragonwiki and start reading.. and suggested his next toon that he grind it up the hard way.. that hes missing a lot of the game. I also told him i thought it was pretty crappy of his sg/sg leader to not better equip him for actual game play and not just farming. I really think its the SG's that noobs belong to that need to step up and not just have them there to collect prestige.

anywhoo... On behalf of The Stoned Templars, we'll help where we can.. we dont recruit players at all, its just a small group of "real life" friends that have learned (are still learning) this game together. If ever you need any of us for something specific feel free to hit 1 of us up.

(It was actually nurse eye candy and felecia that were very sweet and helpful to me.. and im sure i drove them nuts numerous times and i can honestly say neither of them ever tried to recruit me.)

Would y'all just take one step back here for a sec.

The players your talking about "Teaching" don't want your help. All I forsee with this project is lots of arguing "teachers" and no "students".

Dinah has a valid point. I know many occassions in this game someone has been doing something totally screwed up in their playing style and I have seen team leaders try to offer them pointers and be shot down rudely for their effort.

Example.

A few weeks ago I was on a PUG Numina. The tank did not have any vet badges. The tank also did not have stamina. Toggles kept dropping and he kept begging everyone for blues. Team leader nicely said "YOu might want to consider getting stamina so you have enough endurance to keep your toggles running". Tank says "You should have put the team together right and had a kin on the team to Sb me, don't talk to me like I am a noob." Then he quit the team and left.

That is only one example, but the mentality I have seen many times over.

In all fairness though many times I have seen new players totally welcoming advice. I guess the main thing is are the Pl'd toons rushing through the games going to be the ones open to advice or the ones shunning it away?

I'm on the same page that this is a good idea in theory, however in practice, won't be as successful. I'll help if I can, but I will remain respectfully dubious until proven otherwise.

That's the thing with advice. If you told me in a plain and respective manner, I'd possibly listen. But if it came across as, "U sux, nub. l2p." I'd probably be less inclined to absorb whatever advice you were tryin' to give.

Maybe I can clarify some of the confusion before it was sidetracked earlier in the post. There are players coming back to the game (many in our SG and my globals) who are curious as to what the updates have been and how it is affecting in game play, etc..

That's what the Trial Tuesdays etc are for, is to enhance the experience of the game while in the meantime getting ppl (those new and old that have been away for awhile) more familiar with the new flow and 'dimishing returns' etc.. that we all work with with every new issue. Their toons are playing different and we're only asking for anyone who is interested to help with your vast knowledge further the experience with facts about such things.

It's not about, 'slot this or that' and 'perma this or that' it's just a way to be in more contact with other ppl willing to join in if you so choose and further the experience for all including ourselves! We don't know it all.. the day i know everything about this game is my last day! So ty for those who are interested and those who seem leary, nobody is asking you to [censored] your finger and sign a blood oath. No bid deal, just trying to do our part to give back to a server that has been so good to us.

Just to address this nonsense that you're on about Fels. There are two sides to every story and as I told you before, don't approach me in tells the way you do and you won't get the backlash you deserve. If you talk to your members the way you do those outside your SG, that should tell you that nobody is soliciting as much as your members are looking elsewhere. Your air must be really thin up there on your saddle, just let it go and if you're not interested in helping it doesn't require you chiming in. Not everyone gives a damn what you think, once you comprehend that this nonsense will cease.

And ty all for your input, and mad love to you Miss Shay for your efforts and good intentions with this idea. I can see where it could be left in the grey for most who have hesitations. But I am very grateful for you efforts. She only attached the DarkGuard name to it becuz it's our home and she's proud to be there with us, and we're very proud to have her with us!

Everything you said makes sense Braije and i agree with you. You and i come across to each other in an odd way, i will drop this attack on you.

But there is one issue you are wronge on. We had only 5 people leave the sg with no warning in one week to DarkGuard only (no other sg's just DG) and we only had 5 people quit AOW in the last year. you can't tell me that is a coincedent. Plus i had members actually tell me DG was asking them to come over.

My members have no reason to make this up. So, as i requested earlier when we started arguing, plz reign your members in, this very much seems like an attack on AOW.

As for attaching the DG name to the academy i understand Shay's attachment, my issue was your asking for others help with what seem like a recruitment drive. If i am wronge about your intentions i apoligize.

Not that this has a damn thing to do with me but I am going to say it anyways.

Other Sg's solicitate members all the time from every SG out there. There are lots of SG leaders that do not even bother to look to see if someone is in an SG before sending that annoying bind asking everyone logged in and showing on the search window if they want to join their SG.

The beautiful thing about this country is the fact that we have free enterprise. Businesses (SG's) have the right to solicit for customers, even those customers that are currently doing business with another SG. Consumers (sG members) have the right to try out the services of as many different businesses (Sg's) that they want to. If you are making your customers (SG members) as happy as they can be, feeling welcome and entertained....they won't stray away to other Sg's to do business with. You can't exactly blame the other SG for the fact that your members think the grass is greener on the other side.

There are so many times I have seen LES members suddenly gone and suddenly in different SG's. I don't blame the other SG for stealing my members, I blame myself for not making my members feel 110% happy within LES.

Exactly Critical! I target no particular SG's, more times than not it's a person teaming with a whole team of us or just a couple and we're cutting up having fun. They join with that toon or another and some stay and some don't.

I'm the first to say that our SG is not for everyone and let them know that when they join (same goes with coalitions). Your SG can't be for everyone as some ppl want certain things from the content that doesn't fit us, (i.e. role play). I myself join other SG's to branch out and meet new players. But again as far as 'targeting' any particular SG, that's just nonsensical paranoia.

As far as this site Shay put together. As i've stated before it's just for those who want it and/or want to assist with those who have and will be directed there. Things like enhancements, invention system, accolades and how to acquire them etc.. that's not all but a portion of the things we're addressing. Some can't navigate the forums as easily to find what they're looking for and some of the things like FAQ's are outdated.

In regards to this being a possible 'recruitment ploy', lol. Personally, I prefer to run on a team with someone and see if they are fun to run with. We have and always will be about quality not quantity. Again, those who have or are interested in sharing your knowledge and experiences it is very appreciated. I really enjoy this server of the ones i've tried, it's my home as long as I play this game.

Awww...Miss Shay thanks you for the good words, B!

Well, some seem interested in contributing, but some are also leary of contributing to something attached to a different SG.

Here's a suggestion....guildportal.com gives free webspace for SGs and such. It also allows you to form 'alliances' between them on-site, which is kinda like a 'site coalition'. Why don't othre folks who are interested set up SG / VG sites and then we can ally them?
This way, each SG has its own space, yet we can still pool resources collectively--be that server or game wide--for those interested in creating such a commonly-held resource?

I'd be glad to help anyone with Guildportal.com although its pretty easy to use!

And remember, those of you who've pointed out that many players don't want help...well, we're not demanding anyone come to the site, just telling them that its there. No pressure, and we don't recruit site members in game, beyond letting our SG and coalie-mates know we've set one up.

It's kinda like Paragon Wiki....its there if you want it, but you don't have to use it
I'm enjoying it myself...I'm getting some great advice on a new toon I made, the powersets of which I am not very familiar with.

I'd like to quote Atmosphere's 'Woman With the Tattooed Hands':

"I've got a lot to teach and even more to learn."

I played my first 3-4 months of this game without joining an SG. I only played one character, I teamed whenever possible and made a few friends along the way.

It wasn't until my first SG, BOSS, that I REALLY started learning the game. I apparently was a decent player because people told me so(I had quite a few actually make the comment "I wanna go make a grav/FF now), but there were some things about the game that I only learned through playing with a diverse SG such as BOSS. Shortly around that time I had also met Marut and Genna, started bubbling for hami raids, and even led one(it failed, lol). My new groups of friends were teaching me a lot about the numbers, the powersets and how they sometimes meshed better in certain combinations than others, and of course the art of fighting AV's and GM's.

I didn't really feel like I was any different of a player, though, just because people were there to spout information at me. I still played the same, I just had more information about how to build my character.

This was a totally natural learning process, though. I learned more about the game by playing the game. I don't think that anything past the tutorial would be something I would personally be interested in when it comes to learning the game, though helpful hints when teaming were/are always appreciated.

Long story short, I think teaming is the best tool. I don't think any sort of training program or advanced tutorial is going to be something that anyone would be interested in because it takes away from what they pay their $15 a month for: Playing the game, having fun, etc.

I think a form of this could work, so long as it isn't set in a "learning or training environment". Just team with people and kindly let them know that they should not have six-slotted flurry or that it's not very beneficial to their character to have 3 travel powers and stealth when they could have picked up something from their primary/secondary that would far more enhance the character's survivability/usefulness. If they don't want to listen, then they must be having fun with what they have and that's what they wanna do.

Jester said it right: There's going to be people that suck. If they don't want help, [censored] 'em. If they do...tell 'em what's up.

First of all you and AOW got smack up by Me, Artic, Logos on your pvp event. Since then I havent seen a AOW pvp any where. Leader of DarkGaurd is a **Bleep** Brajia something. Honesty I wont support that event.. Honesty I have my Nubs members to teach and were fairly active on teh villain side. Why help nubs? they need help them selves... More and likely they rather get another toon to 50 then do a TF. You can disagree with my comments all you want I gives rat dropping. No offfense to cool Darkguard members... but Brajia is *bleep* and I wont support him. We have team match..

But ty for caring enough to contribute more of your endless psycho-babble. I know the idea of it all is so beneath you, yet you took time out of your busy day to blather on the way you always do. Keep tugging on my pantleg the way you do and ppl are gonna think you have a crush. hehe

Btw, you should find a way to incorporate a block of ice into your stalkers costumes. You'll have to show me what the front of that main costume looks like someday, so busy seeing the backside as the foreground and the vill base as the background... run Forest... run! lol.

At least you try, and when you get a kill outside of a squishy .. it's like seeing a butterfly land on a retarded kids nose, special.
