who here can make a build with soft-cap defense on a DA/SS tank and eliminate the endurance issue without the use of purple IO's...
That is this weeks challenge...

44.6% melee, 40.9% ranged, 43.4% AoE.
Recovers 1,58 end per second with toggles running, plus the performance shifter proc and conserve power. It wouldn't be enough for a long, solo AV fight, but it would do for normal gameplay.

(Assume the PVP IO is in Murky Cloud)

Considering that most purple sets dont do much for endurance and defense buffs, I'd think that most builds that would come close wouldn't need to use purples at all.

Also DA has very little native defense (8% when slotted), so let's assume we get weave (8%) and combat jumping (3.9%), plus the steadfast IO(3%). You are looking at 22.9% defense.

You need 22.1% more defense, and to get that much you'll likely have to specialize in a certain type of defense.

Smashing / Lethal will do you wonders.

If you take Kick, Jab, haymaker and knockout blow and 4 slot them with kinetic combat then you wind up with 15% s/l defense bonuses.

Next you have Dark Embrace, Murky Cloud, Obsidian Shield, and Tough 4 slotted with Reactive Armor for another 5% s/l defense.

So far you've got 5%, 15% and 22.9% defense for a total of 42.9% s/l defense.

At that point you can get the final bits of defense from any number of potential set bonuses for your PbAoE powers, pick up Maneuvers or Stealth, or get the PvP +3% def IO or even use Cloak of Fear to fill in that gap.

As for endurance issues, your toggles and attacks still have room for more slots which can be endurance reduction. You can use the +recovery uniques, the panacea and performance shifter chance for +endurance procs. You get accolades for additional endurance. You could pick up Conserve Power as well.

Due to Dark Regeneration's huge endurance cost and Rage's endurance crash, you will likely have endurance struggles no matter what you do, if you are moving at a fast pace.

Are you worried about damage output? Or just defense and end usage?

defense and end usage MAINLY!!!
but the more dmg output the better..as long as Footstomp + Rage gets +200 dmg thats fine..but more the merrier.... the contest is for BEST BUILD by that i mean solo'in, and tankin for teams while rackin up a nice amount of kills...
still have 7 days before i post my build and pick a winner....

im srry guys i have a fire/kin on every server each has roughly 1bill (except on virtue and Freedom they have about 8 bill) and i do this contest weekly so i have to stay stocked up on inf lol

good job on cappin but end issue is still there...ok how bout i say if u are around 1.69 recovery (or higher of course) you have solved the endurance issue... good job guys the builds are lookin quite nice... still got 7 days to get that money who is gonna take home the prize?

Ok, keeping those things in mind as much as possible, here goes:

This build assumes you'll be getting the 4 main accolades (Atlas, PJ, TFC and FPR). If you get those, you can add a lot, and I mean A LOT, to your endurance management and overall survival. Here we have nearly soft-capped S/L defense (.6% away), high defense for E/N and pretty good F/C defense with a dash thrown in for Psi. Keeping in mind how much resistance you get, and that's an insane amount of mitigation. All attacks have at minimum 41% end disc, as with all armors. The only exception is Foot Stomp, because of set bonus needs.

End recovery is at 3.06 end/sec. I have a DA/Ice who currently has 3.5ish end/sec (and it gimps her damage output by a lot for that build), and I can tell you, you'll still need to manage yourself to an extent. But not nearly as bad as you would without it.

Capped with PVP IO, but to be honest, this isn't a build I'd actually play (and i'd probably switch soul transfer for Conserve Power)

This build softcaps your S/L, around 40% E/N def, and around 30% F/C def.

You didn't mention whether you want to run toggles fulltime or your going to toggle manage, so I reduced the end drain of the build as much as I could. Your recovery is very high, 3.86 end/sec. Like one of the previous builds, it will require you to get some accolades.

You also have perma rage, and Dark Regeneration recharges every 14 seconds.

This uses the PVP IO, but you can cap positional defenses. Also, click on hover to go a little more (though I doubt you would). Fly/Hover is a weird route, I know, but you don't have to run them to keep up the defense. Well. . . you could run Hover to go above the cap I guess. (Still assuming you get all the accolades)

Figured i was wasting a few power picks on teleport when stacking CJ/Hover works just as well. (also removes the use of the pvp def IO)

45.1 defense to melee/ranged
45.5 defense to aoe

Net recovery without Accolades - 1.51
Net recovery with Accolades - 1.82

Theft of essence +end IO should help with the end loss from dark regeneration, but you can always get unlucky.

Also, the lack of OG/CoF is a touch annoying, in a 'real' build, I'd probably drop 2 of the zephyr sets, 4 slot Cloak of Fear with Clouded Senses for -7.2% to hit, and 2 slot Oppressive Gloom with Stupefy. (although that would completely hose the net end recovery...)

One other thing i'd do for a 'real' build. would be to switch the defense and defense/recharge GoTA IOs in either Cloak of Darkness or Weave, to be a LotG Defense and Defense/+7.5% Global Recharge IO. This would perma Rage at the expense of a little endurance.

Impressive values on your second build, Reask. Just some thoughts : I'd switch the Miracle Heal in Health to a Recharge IO in CP - this lowers its recharge by 70s, which is much better for end management than +1.5% recovery (of course, it loses a little regen in Health, but this isn't a problem with Dark Regen).

Don't forget though, guys, that Foot Stomp won't work with hover on. So you lose time in toggle management to work the power into your fights. Best not to rely on it for the soft-cap, IMO. Some crazy builds coming out of the woodworks though. Great job!

It doesn't quite get to 45% def to Melee, Ranged, and AoE, but it's the closest I could get without borking the build. I refuse to underslot attacks/powers that I use. That's a sure fire way to have endurance problems/ poor performance.

I guess I could have added Conserve Power instead of Swift, but I like the faster movement(and it allows you to turn off sprint = saving endurance). I like Hurdle+ CJ too much to drop that as well.

I also noticed Char with Lockdowns, and Melt Armor with Shield Breakers are good for +Def if you can spare the slots.

Here's my entry: the obvious choice IMO to get rid of the endurance problem was to not use Death Shroud. The open slot in Dark Embrace is for the pvp IO +def. Very close to softcapped, missing a few tenths of %.
