I am the leader
You can set the supergroup auto-demotion timeframe, in the SG information window. However, if you founded the SG, the character that founded it will stay at the super-leader level, no matter how much time passes.

I believe the max before it passes is 45 days. If you really want to keep your status, have your friends create another group and coalition with it. Then they can use your teleporters and invention table and such but they will not get promoted over your characters.

Not quite, Aett... from Sunstorm's announcement:
# Super Leader position will always be filled by active user and Rank 5 leaders will no longer be demoted unless the SL designates.
# Super Leader will be auto-demoted if inactivity period set by permissions is reached.
# The highest ranking member with the most recent log-out time will be auto-promoted once Super Leader position is vacated.
# Super Leader can pass leadership to a Rank 5 Leader at any time as long as both players are online. This transfer of leadership occurs in the SG/VG screen.
# There is a confirmation screen before this transaction occurs to eliminate errors.
# Customer Service can promote any on-line player to the Super Leader position, if the petition warrants such action
# Yes, there is only one Super Leader.
"Founder" has no relevance whatsoever in regards to superleadership.
Aett_Thorn, thanks, thats what I needed to know as I am the founder. Thank you!

Well, set it for the max, and be sure to have arrangements for your friends where they understand you want leadership back when you come back.
Promote all of your characters to Leader, set all of your friends to one rank below that. Set permissions on all the storage items, etc, so that your friends can still access them. This way the only characters eligible for auto-promotion are yours.

WHOA! Flat-out wrong.
The auto-demote setting applies to the Super Leader and Super Leader ONLY. The one Super Leader will be demoted at the time interval set and someone else will be given that position.

Wrong.
As quoted above by Bill: "The highest ranking member with the most recent log-out time will be auto-promoted once Super Leader position is vacated."
If all of the OP's toons have been offline more than 45 days (assuming auto-demote is set to 45), then it checks at lower ranks.

Honestly, if you think you will be gone that long (over 45 days), your best bet is to place someone you trust (and will be more active than you are) in a Leader position.
When you come back, if leadership has changed, the person you appointed would be able to give it back to you. Of course, he/she could also choose not to do so - that can be a risk.
The other alternative is to kick everyone that is not your alt out of the group. It will be waiting for you upon your return (most likely with rent owing). But that's not really a good way to treat your friends if you value keeping their friendship.

Here's my question (finally! ). Once I've been gone from the game for say...three months (?), six months (?) will I lose "leader" status? Will it then be given to one of my friends who logs in regularly? I dont want to lose it because I probably will come back to the game eventually, even if its just for "free weekend".

The answers to your two questions are Yes and Yes. You can set the auto-demote duration between 15 and 45 days. After that time, the Super Leader (guy with the big red star) will be demoted one step and someone else will become Super Leader.
Under no circumstances will the group disappear. This only happens if EVERYONE leaves the group (i.e. if everyone quit, or if the super leader kicked everyone and then quit the group).
Please note, you can decide in advance who you want holding the super leader rank and promote them. This will simultaneously demote you by one step (from rank 6 to rank 5).
All of this assumes you know these friends well enough to trust them with 'your' SG. Sadly, we have heard many stories here about people who thought they could trust someone in the SG and eventually came back to find all their characters kicked out of the group.
Hypothetically.... if all characters belonging to other people were 'removed' from the group, then you could never lose it. You could come back in a YEAR and you would still have the SG.

Are these real-life friends of your's? Why don't you trust them to re-promote you when you return?
If you want an objective outsider, I'll SG/Base-sit for you.

As mentioned above, your best bet, if you don't trust the people you are naming as friends here, is to kick them from the SG. Having just come back from a 2yr hiatus, i can confirm that those SGs that only me and my Husband were members of (no other accounts in those groups) gave back SG leader to the first one of us to log in after our hiatus. (i suspect the groups were in a nebulous "no leader" status until one of us did log in, since no toons were logged in within the auto-demote timeframe.)

As others have already said, yes. This is how I, as the only active member of a once thriving SG have come to be in charge of it. Before we even had Super Leaders, the game promoted me to Leader. When when the founder came back for a short time, he installed himself as Super Leader and then left again, which lead to me being auto-promoted to Super Leader.
Honestly, I'm not sure how willing I will be to give up the position if the founder comes back in another 6 months and asks for it back. It's my earning of prestige, and paying of the rent that keeps the base going, and there was one other time that the founder decided he didn't like the base layout and sold everything to start from scratch again, which meant I couldn't use the base portals to hop between zones for like two months until he eventually got around to adding them back in. I almost quit the group because of that.

At the risk of sounding out of line here, I would highly recommend not only not trying to keep yourself as superleader, but actually deliberately promoting one of your friends who you trust to that position while you're gone.
If I'm in a supergroup whose leader knows they're leaving for who knows how long (possibly forever) and yet they want to keep the leadership to himself, I'd leave the group. Someone needs to be running the group while you're gone. Not just the stuff you set permissions for, but someone who can honestly say, "I'm in charge," and have the rank to back that up. Who knows? Maybe when you get back, they'll turn out to have been a really good leader and your group will be going even better than when you left it.
If not, then, well, such is the risk you run for not being around.
Be sure that you have a clear understanding with your friends what will happen when you return. Will you be repromoted to leader? Repromoted to superleader? Will they keep their leadership ranks? Make sure these things are discussed now, because after the fact, if there's a disagreement as to what will happen, it will get ugly.
If you leave the supergroup leaderless, though, I can almost guarantee that either 1) the people in it will get extremely discouraged and simply leave, or 2) the people in it will get mad at you for not providing some kind of succession plan.
My 2 cent's worth, take it or leave it.

In addition, make sure your friends have permission to pay Base Rent. Having a base is kind of useless when you are locked outside.
Thanks for all the replies everyone, I hear yall loud and clear. TonyV, you make great points. Honestly my "SG" is more of a glorified personal apartment (which hello, is something we frakking need here...plus mail to move things between characters) so I might just delete it. Less pain that way I guess.

If you are going to the trouble of deleting it, why not kick your friends? That way you'll have your base when you come back? It sounds kinda rude to kick them but you'll do it anyway if you delete the SG.

I thought the only way to delete a SG was for it to have no members... in other words kick everyone and then quit yourself. Am I wrong about that?

That would be correct. Every member must be kicked or choose to quit. When the last one quits, the SG goes poof.

If you're going to delete the SG, it might be nice to let your friends take what they can from any salvage, inspiration, and storage racks you have. Sort of a parting gift to say, "Thanks for helping me build this base."

Actually the base would still exist ... if you left any coalitions attached they might be able to use the base until it was turned off. I know why had an old coalition attached to us and we had to get CS involved to break it. I swear some of these abandoned bases need to be sold on the auction house .... or is Longbow/Arachnos "claiming" them :-)

Wait a minute here.
Why are you even considering desolving the SG and your Base? Are those other guys in your SG actually friends or not? Are they pissing you off that much by existing that you seriously want to spite them by leaving them out in the cold?
Why do you believe that there isn't going to be the possibility that they'll welcome you back later and re-promote you? Do you really want to be guaranteed homeless when you return along with a bad reputation?

I agree. Just leave the SG as is and let one of your friends take over base editing responsibilities while you're gone. I mean these are your friends, right? Do you really want to leave them without the amenities your base offers? You just said that having a glorified apartment was something you need in this game. You don't think maybe your friends need that too?
Hi, perhaps someone could either answer this question outright or direct me to a "red name" who can. My question is this.
I have my own SG with nearly all the members being my own characters. Only 4 members are not mine, but do belong to two friends of mine.
Due to "the economy" (mainly a root canal not covered by my dental insurance and furloughs for state employees to help close the state budget gap) I have got to cut many things from my bidget, one of which is this game for a while. How long is "a while"? Well who the frak knows?
Here's my question (finally! ). Once I've been gone from the game for say...three months (?), six months (?) will I lose "leader" status? Will it then be given to one of my friends who logs in regularly? I dont want to lose it because I probably will come back to the game eventually, even if its just for "free weekend".
Anyone know? Thanks.
