Well, I guess that's it for me.

I wish my farewell post could be as well spoken as Eran's, but I'm afraid my way-with-words just isn't as good.

Ever since i13, I've been no the fence with this game. I never really played PvP all that much, but knowing how poorly the situation was handled didn't *help* either. Seeing the huge uproar from recent events... I can't help but evaluate my own experiences in the game and wonder: Can I afford to keep playing?

I have been a loyal subscriber for nearly 2 and a half years. For most vets, that's just a drop in the bucket... but that is easily the longest amount of time I have ever devoted to a game. That should attribute to how amazingly fun and addicting it has been. And yet, I find myself playing less and less these days. Over the years, I've gone through several personal changes. I've lost and gained jobs. I've out of my parents place and into an apartment in a neighboring town.
Yet the game was always there. It has provided an significant amount of fun for me, and for that I am truly grateful. Unfortunately, all things must come to an end. I'm now only spending about half as much time online as I used to. And most of that is just being spent playing with a select number of friends or just chatting with them as I solo (very slowly) through the game. I just can't do that anymore. The experience of trying to level my characters to their fullest potential has become boring and tiresome. The only real things that kept drawing me back were badge collecting, playing with friends, and creating characters. Everything else was just a means to an end.

With the whole idea that farming is considered a bad thing.... I can't help but wonder how far this will go. How many of my fellow gamers will leave? How many restrictions on game-play will be added? I was never one for farming, but it was nice knowing the quicker option was there. That if I ever did tire of the same content.... I had something that could help me get where I wanted to go. Something that's not just a shiny distraction.

This brings me to I15: Going Rogue. Everyone is talking about how interesting it could be.... and it just reminds me of how everyone talked about how awesome I14 would be. The Mission Architect. The same feature that I played through heavily in beta.... and stopped playing entirely, shortly afterward. I really don't think I15 will be much different.

tl:dr version:

So... I've decided I'm going to let my subscription run out. Since it was a 6 month subscription, that won't be happening until November. I don't mean for this to sound like an angry 'OMG, That's BS, I'm outta here!' kind of thing. I just thought I should let everyone know what's up. I've gotten to know some really cool people in this game and I'd hate to lose contact with them. So if you want to keep up and join me in other online games, please, feel free to IM me and ask for some contact info.

i15 won't be Going Rogue, though - that was an "oops" by marketing (accidental or deliberate, you decide) where it was announced too early. The soonest would be i16, maybe i17.

And I agree with much of the sentiment, but many of the people I enjoy teaming with are still here so I'll toss in my 50 cents a day and leave everything month-to-month. Once there's nobody around but the pricks who insist on complaining about "not playing the One True Way" I'm gone - if I wanted to solo I'd use my Playstation more often.

Haven't teamed with ya often, but shame to see another leave. Take care man, and may fortune and gaming shine brighter on ya.

And I ain't leaving yet... still a lot of friends here, and fun to be had. I'm just more tilting at the windmill of the developer's apathy, trying to help them help the game.

Never played with you but I'll miss you. Its a shame to lose loyal players based on recent changes (for the worse, IMO). Anyway... good luck with all you do and I hope the powers that be start to realize the mess they are creating.

You're a solid player Rock Crag, I'd hate to see you go.

But I guess the dev team is willing to lose players like you if it means that nobody ever gains more than one level per week.

My last subscription runs out about the same time Rock...stupid auto renew for a year. I did have the pleasure of running a few TF's with you and enjoyed them greatly

I've been playing now for over 4 yrs, and I love this game but I haven't played now for over 2 months and I have to say I don't miss it. I remember a time when I couldn't wait to get home just to play and this game was my lifeline when my folks were sick and right after they both passed away 2 yrs ago.

I've never been much of a farmer, after playing for a few years though the content from 1-32 was just tetious and I'd rather just avoid them. However, worrying about whether I'm leveling too quickly only to have the character deleted is just too much, sorry.

Going Rogue just doesn't do it for me sorry, so what if my villain can do hero content...hello i've done it all so many times why do I want to do it on a different AT, been there done that, nuff said.

So all I can say is when is Aion coming out and if any of these devs or mods are there guess I'll be looking for another game to play, sigh.

Good Luck. Although I dont remember if I ever team with you.

I know that feeling and been there.. I was out for an year sorting my personal life and work life out.

I used to play every single day when I didnt have a job for 5months. I am slowing starting to get back into the game and yet I dont know how long that will last.

Well, I'll say I am in a similar boat, but it's likely this post, too, will get deleted.

Pretty frightening what's happened to this game in the last year. Wonder what the behind-the-scenes is like. Bet there is some great drama and stories to tell (and they will come out eventually, if anyone anywhere is still interested).

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

While I wouldn't be surprised if they deleted this thread, I really hope they don't. It'd do nothing more than confirm my choice as being the right one to make.

It's a shame the game hasn't gotten anything really solid in terms of game-play lately. If they would ad more events like the RWZ raids or ITFs. I sincerely hope something is done by November that will change my mind.... but I just can't see it happening....

I'm tired of hearing from folks who are leaving the game because the devs are trying to make the game challenging, and fun with limited exploitation. So many people are screaming "No Fair!" because their ability to exploit the game is being curtailed. Other MMO's do pretty much the same thing. They want to reduce the ease at which players exploit the game. Players think it's their right to "play the game the way they want to" even though it hurts others. And, yes, farming excessively does hurt others.... how do you think RMT'ers get their influence/infamy? They exploit the game... getting salvage, recipes, etc.. sell them for lots of influence.. then sell that influence for real money. And there are plenty of players who buy the influence which is against EULA. If there weren't customers for it, they'd soon go out of business. I think those who complain the most should go to another game... and find something to moan about there. So you folks who love to farm... find a game where farming IS the game... and farm to your hearts' content. Or perhaps, stick around here and play the game the way it is intended to play. (What a novel idea.)

That poster doesn't only not understand the senitment of the OP, s/he doesn't "get it" in the big sense either.

It's a small percent (if at all) that are saying "you've hurt my ability to farm". What most are up in arms about, and I put myself in this camp, is in reaction to the Draconian measures being used. I'm not going detail them for the 1000th time.

Also, your naivete is adorable that you think the measures brought down from above are slowing down RMTers in the least bit. Just like every other anti-farming measure ever put in place, the real farmers (not just RMT farmers mind you) shrug this off and keep on doing what they do.

I really wanted to rant off on Mscats, but that would probarly spiral this thread (Even more) into Modding and locking.

And thats not what this thread is about, so bye Rock Cragg, sorry to see you go, you always seemed like a decent sane fellar.

Edit: Bye Rock, not buy Rock... that would be bad

Good luck and have fun, Rock Crag. I have the same feelings you do.

As for Mscats: You are right that the Devs are free to create what they want, discipline as wish, and censor the forums at their whim. We either enjoy it and pay for it, or leave.

If you continue to enjoy it then I'm happy for you. But I don't think its proper for you to criticise someone for not liking it anymore.

Echoing the learn to read response, as well as stating (as I did in another thread about this) that I hope people who have nothing better to do with their time than post anti-farming rants into threads about legitimate concerns with the direction the dev team has taken things get banned from the game and forums.

Originally I said 3 days, I'd really just prefer they never post again. If that's all they have to say, it's obvious that they don't care about discussion or dialogue, they just want to pretend they have some false sense of superiority without even bothering to pay attention to what the complaints are. While they're at it, shut down their game accounts, too. After all, the devs are within their rights to do so, and that's what the complaints are about - such a thing happening to people who never did anything wrong.

When people that aren't farming and never did anything wrong are getting characters deleted and accounts banned due to the measures the devs are taking, then the devs are completely in the wrong. Just because customer service has restored the character(s) afterwards, typically after the ban had already expired because they don't respond quickly, is no excuse - it never should have happened in the first place.

Having the right to do something as per the EULA does not mean that it is right to do so, or that it should be done.

I dont think I ever got to know you well but maybe we'll get to team some before you depart later in the year. I understand as many people do. Keep in touch!

Having played in game with mscats I know she is a pretty decent player of the game and like all the rest of us, she is entitled to her opinion.

I don't plan on leaving the game and honestly I think some people do take this game a bit too seriously. I have been playing for over 4 years now and take every game change in stride as I am not one of those people where COH becomes life or death for me.

The only problem I really see with what is going on is that it seems the devs could have corrected this problem(in beta) before it happened and decided to just ignore it and see what unfolded. Now they are going after a fly with a bazooka to fix the problem and that is enough to make a lot of people angry and leave. You have to look at how they are handling the situation and just think what might happen if something else goes wrong with "how people play the game" and they have to step in again. I think most of the uproar is caused by the way the devs have handled the aftermath.

Anyways, Rock I don't think I have ever teamed with you in-game, but I know you were a great contributor to the Infinity forums and probably in-game as well so you will be missed! GL and hope you change your mind!

Funny how the OP cites the devs and GMs cracking down on farming as a reason for leaving, and it's a "legitimate concern." One, incidentally, that should have been posted in the threads designated for farming, one that consistently has been getting threads locked.

Someone posts a response to it, and it's an "anti-farming rant."

Give me a break.

Rock_Crag, I like you. I've played with you a few times though you probably didn't know who I was. Sorry you feel bored with the game, maybe it's time for a break and you'll come back someday. Whether or so or not, good luck, and I hope you have fun whatever it is you end up doing.

But it still doesn't change the fact that you should have known that your comments were flamebait.

You need to learn to read, too. Looks to me that the concerns are more about the actions that are being taken than that he can't farm anymore.

See the part that's highlighted in red - that you quoted - that says that he wasn't ever one for farming? Sounds like he's really upset that he can't exploit anything anymore...
