everyone should have only one character

With Ouroboros, AE, sidekicking, and exempting - you can do everything on one character. Okay, one character per side (red/blue).

Having more than one character takes up server resources and ties up valuable hero names that others cannot take. This is an RPG - and your character is very important. When a new player finds out they can't get the name they want - they quit. You have cost CoX one new player for every alt you have. That's a lot of money for development your selfishness has cost all of us.

And you can only play one character at a time (if you have multiple accounts - one per account). So having more than one is just a waste.

And when you play alts you aren't connected to your main. It is an RPG - you can only have fun from the satisfaction that comes from truly knowing and inhabiting your character. You can't possibly have fun having alts - so why have them (I know, I tried it out and hated it)?

Alts fill up supergroups. The devs have had to waste time making SGs larger so that selfish people could have alts.

And alts make it hard for everyone else to have fun. I see somebody on and make a friend. Later they aren't on. Maybe they are - but on an alt. I don't know. It just looks like my new friend is missing. Alts kills friendships and community - and everyone knows that community is what keeps MMO's alive.

I call upon the devs to solve this problem that is driving away new players, giving existing players ennui and making them quit. Reduce all accounts to 1 character redside and 1 character blueside. Stop selfishness from ruining my game.

Definitely takes care of power leveling. Then everyone complaining about people mis-using MA will magically silence forever....

...wait. No, they won't.... Who am I kidding?

Why can't people simply disagree with an idea w/o bashing the OP? Just say, I disagree and this is why instead of "you fail miserably..." This is ridiculous..."

[/ QUOTE ]
Because the OP didn't post a message saying, "I disagree with anti-power-levelers, and here's why." He deliberately posted an inflammatory message that totally misses the mark of the argument. It was a troll post, plain and simple, done for the express purpose of prolonging the bickering.

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you guys know eachother or something? No? How can you assume his "purpose" then? Because you are the "all-knowing" TonyV?

lol.

[ QUOTE ]
It's a facetious claim, which makes it really kind of insulting to dignify with a response.

[/ QUOTE ]

And you have responded. Hmmmm. From this, I could assume that you are making those statements with the intent to inflame the OP.

But, I don't assume. I'll leave that to you.

actually this is a satire of anti-powerleveling. How some players selfishness is hurting the game, how you can't have fun powerleveling, how there is one proper way of playing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Darn. It was pretty good as a practical joke post. As a satire of anti-powerleveling, it doesn't work at all.

I mean, it works as a satire of anti-powerleveling about as much as it works as a satire of Champions Online. There's just nothing there.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's not intended as an argument against anti-powerleveling. It's not a thesis.

It's just based on anti-powerleveling posts. I'm fine if it doesn't read like that - these things tend to take on a life of their own as I'm writing them.

All-in-all. That's one of the most trolling posts I've ever seen.
Honestly.

Why did the DEVs give us so many slots?
To sit empty?

I see that you claim to have tried to have alts and have failed to enjoy them. You are fixated by your one character and can not understand the joy and freedom that having multiple characters gives to other players.
To start with, I have several characters with the same name on multiple servers. My first character - I guess you would call that my main - is on seven servers with various power sets, but always essentially the same character. So there is a reason to have more than one character; having the same character on multiple servers.
Another reason to have multiple characters is to explore the different power sets of the game. If I get bored with one set or archetype, I always have a character to switch to that is different. I personally like variation. It is the spice of life.
I like to create characters. I guess it has something to do with liking comic books and thinking up superheroes with various powers. Huh, what do you know - this is a game about just that.

Have I played all my characters this year? No probably not. Have I played over half of them maybe not. 1/3 of them? Definitely at least a third of them. Some times I play multiple characters the same day, and, by played, I mean running missions.

I'm a Legion of Super Heroes.

I'm not a Highlander.

I'm certainly not a farmer. My first character Vegaton doesn't like farmers. They kill plants. Vegaton doesn't like that. On some servers it is a hero, on others it is a villain. It depends on what went on after it was created. Was it rescued by heroes? Was it imprisoned for attacking farmers for harvesting their fields?
Vegaton was created long before I played CoX.
Vegaton doesn't like farmers.

Do you really want Vegaton to be the only character I play?

Free web page hosting sites should never have been allowed in the first place. They promote unhealthy frivolity and jocularity.

Now if only I could find another one. But I suppose they really are a thing of the past.

[/ QUOTE ]

Google "free website hosting". There's still a ton out there, and almost all of them better than Geocities EVER was.

You forgot to mention that your one character can have five different costumes. That's like five different characters right there!

[/ QUOTE ]

I've actually heard that from a CoH detractor on a different forum. Obviously the rest of his post didn't serve to change my mind about anything.

While I hate your idea, this does make me wish for something that would let me change AT's on the same character. It'd have to be leveled up of course and it'd be like starting a new character, but with the same name as your old one.

Can I get some /signs on this?

I have this mental image of Vegaton standing in a Kansas wheat field carrying a protest sign and chanting, "Bread is murder! . . . Bread is murder! . . . Save the wheat!"

Meanwhile farmer Brown sitting on top of his John Deere thresher looks around to see if there are any witnesses . . . and since it's Kansas there won't be any, he guns it.

*Dies Laughing* Nothing like good sarcasm.

All irony aside, though, the tendency of people in this game to have over a dozen characters (and sometimes far more than that) in many different guilds, adn even across many different servers has always beena baffling aberation to me, though I speculate it may have something to do with the near-total lack of end-game content and the famous customizability of character appearence. I can't imagine trying tokeep up wiht more than one or two characters at a time, myself, but to each their own.

It's easy if you're in no hurry. I have over a hundred characters, twenty-six on Victory alone, and I find time when I can. I have two 50s and wasn't in any hurry to get there, either. I'm a super-hero geek from WAAAAAY back and you can't believe the amount of ideas that gives me (or maybe you do...I dunno, but most are shocked...and somewhat appalled).

Dec out.

It would be totally awesome if the devs said they were going to implement this for the next April 1st day.

I prefer the lvl 6-30ish game. I have gotten 1 character to 50 and deleted all of the others once they hit the 30's. I just don't like the game at that level - too many powers, too many enhancements.

Lvl 6-30 you have options but not godlike powers. It takes more skill I think at those levels - more thought. You don't have powers to save you if you screw up.

Canadian judge gives a 7.0. Good effort but too transparent.

I thought power levelling threads were locked and/or deleted because they contravene forum policy wrt game exploits?

Earth-1 :: Champion Shard

Vegaton (only cares a protest sign on Earth Day, so I guess it's Earth Day) turns and reaches out toward the thresher. Vines grow up from the earth and trap the rear axle of the thresher.

"You should be glad that I'm a hero, terrorizer of the Earth. You would kill me if you could, but I am noble," as it flies off safely into the distance.

Earth-2 :: Freedom Shard

Vegaton does not have a protest sign. With a wave of it's hand, Vegaton spreads it's seed of confusion on the farmer's face.
The farmer turns toward his house and barn, running the thresher through his worldly possessions, thus, destroying them and his dreams of harvesting the earth for profit.
Vegaton cackles madly and races off high speed toward the next farm...and it's next victim. Vegaton is a villain and he has not constraint against those that desecrates the earth.

Earth-4 :: Infinity Shard

The farmer comes out of the trance just as a giant walking Venus Fly Trap snaps it's maws around his head.
Vegaton cackles madly and flies off toward the next farm...and it's next victim. Vegaton is a villain and he has not constraint against those that desecrates the earth.

Earth-5 :: Justice Shard

Vegaton (only cares a protest sign on Earth Day, so I guess it's Earth Day) turns and reaches out toward the thresher.
Suddenly the farmer is "teleport foe"-ed in front of the spinning thresher blades.
The farmer screams in horror as the massive killer-of-plant-life charges toward him.
Vegaton gestures and teleports itself along side the massive machine. Winding up, Vegaton throws a huge spike-like thorn through the thresher's engine block.
The thresher grinds to a halt, blades still spinning just inches away from the terrified farmer.
"You should be glad that I'm a hero, terrorizer of the Earth. You would kill me if you could, but I am noble."
Instead of "arresting" the farmer. Vegaton takes its time destroying all the agricultural machinery on the farm that it can find.
Once it has completed it's mission, Vegaton teleports off into the sunset.

Earth-7 :: Pinnacle Shard

Vegaton (only cares a protest sign on Earth Day, so I guess it's Earth Day) turns and reaches out toward the thresher. The air grows extremely cold.

Raising it's hands above it's head, Vegaton summons a hurricane around itself.
As the thresher approaches Vegaton, the winds of the hurricane knock the thresher flying into the air.
As the farmer lands with icey winds swirling about him, tendrils grow up from the earth and begin to crush the air from his lungs.

"You should be glad that I'm a hero, terrorizer of the Earth. You would kill me if you could, but I am noble. This is how I "arrest" your kind - farmer scum."

With a wave of it's hand, a huge walking Venus Fly Trap creature grows forth from the ground and shambles toward the helpless, held, freezing, and rather panicky farmer.

Earth-9 :: Triumph Shard

Vegaton (only cares a protest sign on Earth Day, so I guess it's Earth Day) winds up and throws a huge spike-like thorn through the farmers chest pinning him to the seat.
Vegaton side steps the thresher and commences to throw spikes through the tires of the massive mechanical monstrosity.

"You should be glad that I'm a hero, terrorizer of the Earth. You would kill me if you could, but I am noble. I'll just "arrest" you with that huge spike through your chest."
"I'm one with the plant, foolish one!"

Earth-11 :: Virtue Shard

Vegaton (only cares a protest sign on Earth Day, so I guess it's Earth Day) turns and reaches out toward the thresher. Vines grow up from the earth and trap the rear axle of the thresher.
"I am Vegaton! I am one with the planet!"
Raising it's hands it summons a storm of ice and hail down upon the farmer. With a flick of it's wrist, the farmer screams in horror as seeds of confusion fill his lungs.

"You should be glad that I'm a hero, terrorizer of the Earth. You would kill me if you could, but I am noble."

Vegaton concentrates into the earth, drawing forth plant life to enshroud the thresher and crush it until it stops moving.

"Really. You think that threatening me in this manner is appropriate, Farmer Brown? It is clear that you would try to kill me because you thought you would have to opportunity to do so without witnesses has proven that you are a vile villain. A dastardly cad. But did Vegaton not know this all along? Vegaton knew. Vegaton hates farmers, but Vegaton will let you live, because Vegaton is a hero."
"You do not belong in this City. I am one with the planet."
