Underwater Mechanics ... bug or intentional?

This is the first time I've seen myself actually go underwater. When travelling/swimming I've never seen an ability to go below the surface and swim underwater in a free movement like say flight. In Cimerora there's a specific area on the map that allows this very activity. It leads me to believe that underwater content is/was a plan for the game or they wouldn't bother coding under water mechanics. My character is actually floating with a treading water animation while below the surface.

Do you guys think this is intended or just an environment bug?

The ones from the top view look to me like you're at the surface, but at a weird angle. I imagine your physics never changed, and a jump would bring you straight out like normal.

Just a guess though.

It's intended.

In some of the Cimerora mission maps you can indeed swim under water.

I do not believe this is a bug. However, I could be mistaken.

There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"

That solves the question. Thank you.

Yes this was discussed at length right after the Cimerora content was released.

IIRC, the consensus was that it was provided as a kind of demo that this was, in fact, possible, and perhaps as a bit of a tease for future content along these lines.

Some would say that your theory is all wet...

As a side note, there's a pond in Grandville that lets you do this, that's older than Cimerora. West wall. Only clear pond around.

Yep, it's intentional. I believe it's there simply as a way to test the tech. That leads me to the belief that they're eventually going to offer underwater content, otherwise why would they put it in at all?

You can also run into this map when doing the Midnighter's arc or Origin Arc (Either Side).

Thank you for the time...

There were rumors for a while that Atlantis was going to be one of the new zones... but those rumors are as old as the rumors that we'd be fighting on the moon.

Myself, I'd just like to get a bunch of storm defenders (a SG or two worth) to crash the Shadow Shard and flood it so we no longer have to get jet packs there, but that's just me...

[/ QUOTE ] Honestly, i don't think there is any new "tech" about it at all.

Most likely, there is script that changes you to the "swimming" animation whenever you break the plane of the water. Sometimes, you can even TP somebody out of the water and they will still be in that "wading" pose (until they move).

Anyway, the water we are used to just sits a few feet above a huge "floor". I don't see the Cimeroran cave map as any different, other than the floor is much lower.

Unless you can "swim" a few feet up and "float" in the water, then there is nothing new about it, and nothing to test.

It's been a while since I've been in there...but...if I recall correctly, that's exactly what we're talking about here.

It's nothing as complex a script changing your aimations. It's simply a water area in which the "ground" slopes goes down below the rendered surfaces of the water. Since you are still in "water", the swimming and treading water animations are used. If you fly or activation a power, you'll see the normal fly/standing animations.

If they could change up the under/water animation routines and add in "fly" power but swimming animations instead of flying animations. They could have a decent underwater zone. But I don't have any ideal how complication it would be, Or even it it was possible with the cuurrent game engine.

[/ QUOTE ] Last time I tried it.. you still sink to the bottom as if it's a normal floor. Except for the fact that you are doing a different animation, it's no different. Jumping results in a normal jump, not "swimming higher", and I don't remember being able to sustain a float at the surface. I could be wrong though. Either way, my point is that could have been how water was originally coded to begin with, but we never saw it because of the shallow "ocean floor".

You don't sink to the bottom, IIRC you have full 3D movement just like flying. But yes, when you press the spacebar, you jump up instead of swim up. But no, you can sustain the float.

D'you know, I think there might be different mechanics in place for different pools. I'm 99% sure there's full 3D movement in Cimemoran water, but you sink to the bottom in Grandville water.
