Discussion: Don't Miss Out on Official CoH Emails

It would be a very good thing for the people in charge of marketing to figure out how to check with some of the blacklisting sites out there and make sure their redistributor is not listed. My address gets blocked about once every nine weeks for a good three weeks - not because of anything I do, but because some idiot signs up to the virtual server where my mail is hosted and spams, gets reported, and kills the entire IP list for the ISP.

I usually find this out because my mails do not get out to certain friends and HOA board members. However, other friends and board members do get my mails, because they are not subscribed, or auto-subscribed by lazy ISPs, to the blacklisting sites.

There is absolutely no excuse for a multi-thousand user system to rely on someone else's mailing list system when there are existing, stable, easy-to-use mailing list programs available that - yes - can handle what they need without the risk of getting their mails blacklisted because it happens to be associated with the wrong list of IPs at the wrong time.

I got everything up through the Anniversary announcement. All of my information was still correct when I checked, and NCSoft is specifically exempted to not go into my junk mail folder. There's enough people complaining about this that, while there might be some miscellaneous issues on our end (changed emails, unchecked boxes), there is a larger problem on PS's end.

Dear ModOcho,

Not only was I signed up for the newsletter, but I'd also already added my the newsletter@ncsoft.com address into my Yahoo address book a while back. I've also added every other known NCSoft/CoH address...

Guess what?!?

I still only get roughly 1 out of every 5 emails from y'all. I didn't get the most recent one.

I've been beating my head against this for years, danced quite a few rounds with LH in the past and know, for a fact, that others are experiencing the same problems.

I've received every newsletter. Maybe a day or two later than it should be, but I always get them. I have Hotmail, in case that matters.

[/ QUOTE ]

Same here, always get them and have hotmail as well. As mentioned before, it seems majority having issues also use Yahoo or something else sides Hotmail and Gmail, course thats jus speculation as well at this point lol. Pehaps if they get enuff info out of this thread they can find the cause

Unless there's something in it that you can redeem or like that. Or, have an older expired account that you forgot about.

The only NCSoft communiques I receive are from Support.

Despite having my options checked, and NCSoft filtered to send to a specific folder NOT the spam folder.

Guess Yahoo and Gmail both think something's up with NCSoft.

The thing is, the emails are not going into Yahoo's spam/buld folders. It's just not getting there. It's an NCNC/Paragon/Woeverthey'reusingtosendtheiremails problem. Has been for years, and continues to be so now.

Same here. I also have Yahoo for my mail address and the only mail I get are the petition and bug report e-mails. Nothing else for a long, long time. I have confirmed my e-mail address and even unchecked and rechecked my receive newsletters box to see if that works.

Might want to talk to Yahoo or whoever about that.

I never opted out, and yet the checkbox was off for me. I guess that explains why I didn't get the Going Rogue announcement. I turned the checkbox back on, so hopefully I'll get future stuff. Perhaps someone could track down when and why the checkbox was turned off.

The last newsletter type email I got from NCSoft was the Spring Fling thing on 2/9/09. I have always gotten support ticket type emails without a problem, and this is the first problem I've had with newsletters. I've got a Yahoo email address in case that is relevant.

I think it'd be a good idea to send out a newsletter or something, right now, to ping those of us who've said we've re-clicked. Because still, so far, I haven't gotten anything except a bug report.

Okee, not sure if this is related, but upon applying for a position at Paragon Studios (no, didn't get it, I'll just have to keep playing instead), the reply came from:

donotreply@invalidemail.com

Now, that strikes me as highly likely to be causing some issues with filtering / anti-spam measures as it ended up in my Junk Mail folder on Hotmail. People may want to add that domain to their filtering. Someone encountered this before, know what it's about?

i unsubscribed from the newletter long, long ago, mostly because i'm
old, cranky and somewhat of a luddite and the newsletters were largely
unreadable because they were sent as in-line HTML with no text part.

if you make it an option to receive newsletters as just plain ordinary text --
no markup, no html, no graphics -- then i'll almost certainly re-subscribe.

I am still not getting any official sendouts except my bug reports in the Email, and I re-signed up when this was a new topic.

Please do something about this! I'm positive I should have gotten something about both the Rikti invasion AND 2x XP weekend, right? I mean, they used to be things that would come in the email.

Ditto. There's a problem with NCSoft emails going out, and it's not on the player's end in many cases.

There was one largish email sent out on 7/16 at about noon.

The topics included were:
[*]Head Topic: Issue 16, Power Spectrum announcement[*]Going Rogue update[*]Double XP announcement (no clear indication of reactivation weekend)[*]Super Booster III now available announcement[*]City of Heroes "Summer Tour" announcement - SDCC, PAX and HeroCon info[*]Miscellaneous links and help.

No Ritki announcement was sent.

The email was sent from: newsletter@ncsoft.com as the sending address.

It was actually received from: newsletter.newzyouwant.com (rs1.netatlantic.com [69.25.195.202])

Thunderbird had to be informed that no, it was not a scam.

I didn't get this one. Yes, I'm signed up to receive newsletters from NCSoft. Yes, my correct e-mail address is listed in my account. All known NCSoft e-mail addresses are on my white list. The newzyouwant.com address is on my white list, too, because I'd read that the original Going Rogue e-mails came from that address. (But I didn't get those either.) Besides that, I regularly check my e-mail's spam folder before deleting it anyway.

I'm not getting some NCSoft e-mails, and there's no reason on my end for why that's happening.

Yeah, that's why I included the info, just in case anyone was missing the header info.

However, is it possible that your ISP is being .... "helpful" and screening this "scam" email?

Not that I'm trying to shield NCSoft, mind, but it's just terribly strange that you're not getting it and I am. I think I started after you, and I'm almost positive I started after Zek.

Heck, that brings up a thought. What if the people who aren't getting it are all people +55 months? (I know Kendaer got the mail, and he's at 54).

Dunno, but I always check my spam folder before doing anything with it, and it's never gone there. I have NC's mail set to deliver into a particular folder, but it hasn't been there either.

Any chance your ISP is screening it right out to the bit bucket?

The reason I'm asking this is because every so often, my mail server gets reported as a spam server (it's a hosting server, and they're very quick to take down spammers, but too many people don't report to the hosts, just to the blacklist sites). When it's blacklisted, quite a few of the people I know absolutely cannot receive e-mail from me, even though they can the rest of the time, and I have to (at least temporarily) switch to my gmail account. My renters, on the other hand, cannot ever receiver email from my principal account, and must always get it from gmail (which is annoying in the extreme).

It's not that the email I send to them gets dropped into their spam folders, it's that the ISP just flat out doesn't send it through. Because the host I'm sending from is listed on one or more blacklisting site, the email is dropped quietly by the receiving ISP, with no notification to anyone, me or the recipient, that it's going bye-bye.

It would not surprise me at all to find out that the mailing list site that NCSoft is using gets regularly blacklisted. If that's the case, is it possible that the people who are not getting the email are not getting it because their *ISP* is dropping this "Scam spam" email before it ever reaches the point where the recipients filters can look at it?

Not that I know of. I used to get it, like lots of us, and then it just stopped around the end of last year. Same story for a lot of folks.

To my knowledge, *nothing* goes directly to trash in my email.

I'm also not getting them and they are not in my spam folder.

I still use the same email address I've had for the last 5 years since I started playing the game. I previously received game emails, but stopped getting emails a year or so ago. I only get the bug and petition reports now.
