Loading 2 accounts on the same computer
Ummm.
You... do know you can simply invite someone else {preferably someone trustworthy}, promote them to leader and have them invite your alts into the supergroup. It's pretty standard fare, and it seems a bit excessive to make a whole new account for something that could be done with a friend and a few minutes' time.
edit: If you're on Virtue, hit me up sometime and I'll help out.
You can run 2 instances of CoH on one computer. It hogged my resources badly, but my comp is 3 years old. Like Quinch said, I am more than willing to help on any server. PM me here or in game.
No one pays attention to me, cause I listen to the voices in my head.
It is indeed possible to be logged in on two separate accounts with the same machine - presumably in windowed mode for ease of access. But this would be quite resource-intensive, so how feasible it is depends on how your computer is. Probably not a good idea if you're using a lower-end machine.
However, as Quinch rightly points out, this shouldn't be necessary.
Invite someone else to your SG. If there's REALLY nobody you trust...you don't need to make 'em a leader or anything - you can keep 'em at the basic rank, but simply adjust privs to let all ranks invite. Get 'em to grab all your alts, and then leave.

Step #1 in game turn down all the graphics settings to minimum and set game to windowed mode.
Exit out and start up the game.
Once instance #1 is fully loaded, start the updater again, to create instance #2.
But I agree finding someone to help you would be an ideal solution.

"..\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh -maxinactivefps 2
That will bypass the updater, allowing you to run it twice to load both clients simultaneously. Log into each one as you see fit. The extra command at the very end keeps the instance in the background using minimal resources without sacrificing quality on the instance you are currently looking at.
If you find your system still struggling with a second instance loaded, then it might be time to start sacrificing some graphics settings, but I've found it isn't necessary in most cases. Depending on your system, you could even load a third, fourth, or even more instances if you ever had the need.
Personally, I don't use Windowed mode for multi-instance either, but it has been shown to increase performance on some systems.
run in windowed mode with graphics at minmum. Once you get once account in, type stopinactivedisplay 1 that will "freeze" that acct until you get the 2nd loaded in. you can type that before switching to the other one, that will allow you to run two accts on one machine that normally couldn't handle it.
Or you can upgrade your system and log in 6-8 accts like us crazy folks

Oh and find a quiet place to do all this, under Atlas might not be the best spot.

[/ QUOTE ] True enough. Depending on your system stability, taking it a step further and moving each toon to a lower population area before dual-logging might help improve performance to perform trades and invites/promotions.
If you can't survive doing that under Atlas.. it's probably not worth trying to do anything else with it anyway. lol
Heh, i just do not want to annoy someone for the invites. I have like over 16 chars to invite.
My comp is recent and i think it can handle it, i had once Fallout 3 running while having CoH in the background. Just was not sure if the game actually let two instances of same prog run on same comp.
I do not want to waste 30 minutes of another player's gaming time just to catter to my wants.

I suppose a trial account would not work for this since i think they cannot join SG and invite people?
Anyway, thanks for the answers.

Pretty sure Trial accounts can't do it.
Just get someone to help you. So many people just hang around and chat that they don't mind doing things like this to help out.

I have done this on occasion when I don't have a second computer available, but my pc has 8 gig of ram and handles it well. I still prefer to run the second account on another computer, but not very many people have 2 computers that can run this game like I do.
Hey, i found someone that could help me invite all my 18 chars! People on Virtue are so nice
I gave the player 20 millions for the help. I figured it was no big deal at all since he saved me 20 real bucks haha
In the end, it was easyer than i thought to find someone willing to help.

This. I have one shortcut for my "main" window with the -maxinactivefps 1 switch on it, then a second for the other window that has -fullscreen 0 -maxinactivefps 1 so I can easily use that instance on my second monitor in windowed mode. Works like a charm.

Give me a server and if I don't have a character there, I'll gladly make one. It's no problem to spend 30+ mins. helping someone invite 16+ characters to their SG.
As a matter of fact, I'm sure most of the people who offered to help feel the same way. We're a friendly community like that.

I've found that, in general, you can usually find someone nice like that.
The real buttheads stick out more, but the generally nice people really do outnumber them.

Hey guys, i have been thinking lately to open a second account for a month just to be able to invite all my chars in my unique SG.
I have never done this before but is it possible to run two instances of CoX on the same computer at the same moment?
I cannot dual box, i only have one comp. So anyone knows?
