art or animation.. 2d or 3d .. what impresses you
Myself - 2d art/animation are my favorites
That said, every format can be used to an absolutely astounding degree by the right artist.
A Warrior's Friend: ID 335212 - Help Infernal save Valkyrie from Battle Maiden.
Above Mars Part 1: The Wellington: ID 159769 - Save Mars by destroying a monstrous battleship from the inside!

Hmmm, I love each of those formats. I'm really fond of 2d art though whenever I see a 3d render from a certain Doug-man...my head explodes at the awesomeness.
depends on the artist and depends on the character
I also agree with mistformsquirrel. I was gonna say 2D animation as my first choice.... but man, Pixar can pull off some gorgeous 3D animation... mostly because they "get" the soul of animation itself in any form.
So yeah... depends on who's wielding the tools!
Comic books, 2d animation, 3d games. However, what impresses me the most in any genre, medium, format, etc., is storytelling. For instance, as much as I really want to enjoy the Ed Brubaker/Matt Fraction Uncanny X-Men stuff, and as pretty as Greg Land's art is, I always get the feeling that I'm looking at a bunch of statues. Statues with great hair, but still, statues.
I love 2D, and Jim Lee, Alex Ross, and all my other heroes constantly amaze me with their talent... but I know how it's all done.
What bloews me away is when I see a 3D piece and I can't figure out how someone did it. Or even parts of it. That's what I'm striving for - perfection and ability that people can't figure out how I got to the finished piece. That's the mark of a true magician =)
2d, hands down. There's no art form that comes close to the beauty of hand drawn line art. Lines translate artists' movements so honestly and perfectly that a good b/w piece is like watching the entire drawing process completely condensed into a single image.

I like them both, I would rather not try to decide. Though, as far as games go, Castlevania is the only good 2d game left now that they ruined Metroid.
I like like 2D and 3D and the animations. And if I knew how to make avatars like the one I currently have, I'd like to make those.

For me it's like.. on a graph 2D is a linear line and 3D is an exponential line where the X axis is quality and Y is how impressed I am by it. I dunno if I make sense to you guys but yeah. I'd say overall 2D is better but if something is done really well in 3D I'm blown away.
I prefer 2D and the use of 3D that is rendered to look more 2D. There is a lot of amazing traditional 2D stuff out there - specifically Anime that pulls this off well and makes Pixar look meh. And if budget allowed, I would love to see someone pull off a traditional fantasy oil painter like Frazetta into an animated piece - too bad they tried that with his work in the early 80s with Fire and Ice and it failed miserably. I blame the lack of technology then though...still an idea I would like to see worked out somehow.

I love 'em all--really depends on the artist and the character. But if pressed, I'd have to go with 2D. My druthers is: give me everything!

Your avatar is gorgeous. What is that from?
Be well, people of CoH.

From my perspective, the form art takes is secondary to the message it is trying to get across. I love art in most of its forms.

Thanx! I wish I knew where it was from. I found it a while back while surfing the internet for avatars.
