The only good thing about the flashback badges is that you can get more than one at once. The bad thing is that trying to do so can make it take forever to get through missions (Oh, they're buffed, I'm debuffed, my enhancements do nothing, and I'm stuck using only the powers from my primary/secondary?).
The Buff/Debuff ones are particularly gruesome in the lower level story arcs, where even if your enhancements are working, they don't do much.
I did the ozone ones before flashbacks gave anything useful out of em 
I'm really annoyed that they added merits after-the-fact like that.
My badger is closing in on 700. I've not even tried for the epic tier dmg/inf ones because they are beyond nonsensical; Bug hunter because of it's nature; and so far, Dev Choice/Hall of Fame because they, like so many others, are implemented in the dumbest fashion.
Gratz tho. 
Don't let them take over any of the fun from the game.

I don't think I will see that high a number for me. I use to be focused on a couple of toons to get badges, then somewhere after my zillionth defeat enemy mob badge and craft way too many things badge, I just fell off. I guess for me personally, getting all the trial and TF (or SF for redside) badges including the two master ones, was the milestone I was happy to achieve.

If you have over 700 badges, you should have some removed... and maybe your sanity checked! 
Yeah, I'll be dropping from 615 to something like 550 I think. I'm a bit sad about that.
Yesterday Blue Justice hit 500 badges. Maybe that isn't a big deal to some folks, but it has been a lot of work and I don't really badge that much. I finally broke down and started on some Flashback badges. They are as terrible as I imagined.
As the kids never say anywhere "Badging Ain't Easy".
