How about... MA arcs on the SG mission computer?

Poor Supergroup base Mission Computer. It sits there, looking so cool and tempting... And all it does is offer a trial that doesn't exist.

What if SG leaders could post published arcs on it, scripted by members of the SG? I can see even more of a 'GM' component, more life in bases, and something resembling the TroubAlert! (...though the MC would need a little blinking red light ...indicating new arcs! )

The contact hologram would not be necessary, as the contact image appears while talking to the Mission computer. The only thing I haven't figured out is how to implement the mission door-- a feasible, SG base-workable, replacement for the AE "holo-tube".

The thing that appeals to me the most about this idea is the concept of getting "calls for help" at your SG base-- team members gather in the base, as would be required for a TF (all in same zone), get the mission info, stock up on supplies from base storage, buff up at empowerment stations, and jet out to save the day!

Anyway, this one's been bouncing around in my head for a while, and now it's out and free. Back to scripting.

The raid portal would be a good replacement for the holotube, now that plots are so cheap.

this is a cool idea

you could limit it to 3 or 10 or whatever missions per SG.

That way SG's could have their own missions - and could rotate them if they wish.

or you could just use the SG mission computer to stream QPCR!

I for one would like a cool shiny new item for the hologram and mission door thingy. Mostly because I'm one of those base designer obsessives, so a new item would 1) give me a shiny new item to design around and 2) wouldn't force me to redesign the base for easy access between mission computer and raid teleporter.

Fabulous Idea! would the red lights simply suffuse the entire base or would you get a number of red lights that can be placed, and also would the base be filled with Klaxons?
I think that there should be a "Security alert" that comes up in the Chat window, like with giant monsters.
as to what the Mission door would be, hows about your basic shiny teleport tube, such as the classic JLA stuff. the contact could simply come up as an image on a massive screen.

I was actually surprised that mission computers weren't how MA arcs were accessed.

This is a really great suggestion, I hope someone who can do something about it sees it.

This is a great idea.

What I think would be an interesting add-on (assuming that this isn't what you were talking about) is to allow for the SG/VG mission computer to have missions (in addition to regular MA content) which are only accessible through that SG/VG. Something like that would be a selling point for potential membership.

Well, keep in mind that the simpler the implementation, the more likely that it will happen.

The simplest way I'm seeing it now is, contact is the computer, and add an SG teleport beacon just for SG MA mishes.

...But a blinking red light on the Mission Computer to alert members of new arcs would be the cherry on top. ...And would look like one too.

I'd love if something like this was implemented and it let you set arcs to a specific SG level. That way having a higher level in the group could unlock special missions that tie in more to the deeper mysteries of the organisation (assuming your organisation has deeper mysteries of course).

/signed, i was looking at the mission computer the other day and thought the same thing, I wouldn't mind if all MA arcs coudl be accessed, the AE areas are too lagtastic in prime zones on big servers

This is a pretty darn good idea. Have you suggested it on the Feedback forums yet? Or were you just curious to see how well it'd be received first?

Posted

Well, the feedback forums are gone now, and their posts assimilated into the closest relevant forums. AFAIK, the MA has this forum and MA: Stories & Lore, so I figured this was most appropriate.

...Unless you are suggesting that I post this in Suggestions & Ideas, also known as the lowest pit of hell, lower even than junior high gym class. If so, I ask: what have I ever done to you? :P

...Holy crud, they really -did- get rid of those forums. Huh...

They must've been getting flooded really bad. That, or it erupted into a gigantic flame war.

Heh. Not quite. They were forums specific to I-14, and issue-specific forums never last long after the issue goes to live. They're really meant most for beta feedback. The posts that are hold useful information get moved to the permanent forums that are the closest match.

...I could see how you could think that, though, assuming you've ever been to Suggestions & Ideas.

Sounds like a good way to hide contact that might be reported for one reason or another.

For that reason alone, I don't think it will happen.

Is there a reason you want to hide the arc from the rest of the community?

Or are the AE buildings that hard to get to?

I understand that the missions computers are pretty useless at this point.
Mission content designed for Sg's seems like what this would have been usable for. It seems like the Pillar of Ice and Fire or what ever it is called - some how was created and given missions before the mission computer was.
There could be lots of cool SG related content for the Mission Computer - but since their isn't the MA is the way to go. Just because other people play the mission doesn't mean it isn't designed for your sg's own use.

I was never a forum dweller until i14 came around, so I'm a real newbie around here.

With how massive the MA system is, you'd figure it could really use its own permanent feedback/suggestion board.

Oh, no no, I wasn't meaning to suggest that the SG mission computer would hold content that was otherwise unavailable. I did say "published arcs' at the outset, but it was easy to gloss over. The intention was two-fold:

1) Bring the SG Base Mission Computer to life, and turn the base into more of a meeting place to go out and do missions;

2) Streamline the MA mission selection so that SG members' missions are the only ones featured.

Any of the mishes that are on an SG mish computer would have to be already published arcs. The SG computer would just limit its database to a smaller pool of missions-- currently published missions submitted by SG members, and placed on the SG computer by an SG leader of the appropriate rank. The SG computer would show only the MA missions whose arc numbers are on its list, but it would be pulling from the entire database of published missions. That way if an SG has an exploit or farm arc referenced on its computer, it will be inaccessible once it is removed from the live servers.

I'm as anti-farm as you'll get. I just saw this as another way that missions could get more play (an easy to access list of just your SGmates' material), and a way to liven up bases, making them more of a true 'base of operations'.

...You'd make a great Accounts Payable Auditor.

This is an excellent idea!

I already plan on using the SG base to set up MA arcs; it just means meeting at the base, then heading over to the MA building afterward.

It would be more fun to enable the SG computer to handle it -- in the way you suggest. Not private missions, but pulling from the missions everyone has access to. As noted, this would help avoid "stealth" inappropriate missions.
