Account Security=Account Token Ring Authenticator
Though it sounds cool. I really haven't heard about anyone actually using these. I did go check on the WoW site and saw nothing on there about it. I also have a paypal account and use it all the time, but have never heard about it.
This is my first time hearing about it too. And I've never heard of someones account getting hacked because of viruses or keyloggers, come to think of it never heard of a game account being hacked except on those browser games.
I have a couple of these, one for my VPN login at work. One for my UK bank account.
They are fairly expensive scheme to implement and maintain, so i could only see it being an opt-in at an extra cost per month.

Only place I've seen that kind of thing offered was Bankof America for use with online banking. If I remember it would have cost $19.99 to get it so I passed.
Bah. Here I was thinking of an actual ring that went on your finger, like a GL ring or a Legion Flight Ring.

Sartre once said, "Hell is other people." What does that make an MMO?
I don't need any more account security when logging in. Instead I know how to keep my computer virus and malware free.
These authenticator things encourage people NOT to learn how to do the above and actually end up creating a false sense of security.
Something similar to this?
Worked at a place that used them for VPN. You had a PIN, combined it with the number on the ID, which changed every minute. Great, until they got locked out.
Personally, I'd see it as being too expensive and too much hassle. Especially when they *inevitably* get lost or broken - and the person realizes they have to pay another $50 or whatever for one. (Yes, they tend to have high replacement fees.)

Peoples' accounts rarely get hacked in the hacker-novel-esque sort of way, but keyloggers and phishing are common enough means of lifting someone's password and compromising their account.
It's overall not a very profitable crime -- far less so than, say, stealing their credit card number -- so account stealing is usually limited to people who do it in revenge for something. And most of those cases use the far more accessible method of social hacking. So, it happens, but... it's not high on the cybercrime watch list.

I want a Paragon Flight Ring.

Oh sure, a ring on your finger was the first thing on your mind. Like we're going to believe that.

I do use one with World of Warcraft. Blizzard cannot keep them instock. I also use one for my PayPal & Ebay accounts. Both the Blizzard Authenticator and the PayPal Authenticator cost $6.00.
I do know setting it up would cost considerably more on NCSoft's side. But it seems the general cost for the authenticators are relativly inexpensive for us to obtain. They maybe a bit annoying having to type in an addtional set of info just to log in, but that annoyance is outweighed by the knowledge that nobody could access your account.

and i should have known to expect those links with my description. hahaha
Just had a friends account info hacked and they stripped all his toons of all IO's and Cash... he is a 3 year vet and very active..You talking 5-6 billion worth of stuff. Problem is that oh yeah NCSOFT cant do anything about verifying what you had.. Restore deleted Toons yes everything else he had to just take it up the rear.. This isnt the first time this has happened and wont be the last.
Use a better password.
Scan better for trojon's and keyloggers.
Dont use public machines.
Those 3 alone go a long way.
And the VPN FOBs work rather nice (i use one for my work). The combination of name, password, VPN+PIN do make it excessivly hard to hack ones account, but again it would have an associated cost. I dont see why CoX wouldn't do it, but would enough people utilize it to make up the setup costs?
And don't use your forum name as your account name!
Giving someone 1/2 the infomation needed to get access to your account is well..... unwise.

Then I'd only consider it if shipping is paid by the company.

IT Security Tip #1
A password is like a toothbrush. Use it regularly, change it often, and don't share it with anyone.
Item 2 is probably the one to keep in mind here.
Check out the Repeat Offenders network of SGs! You'll be glad you did.

I think this is what the OP is referring to. I got one for WoW for the short time I was playing.
Personally, I think this is something NCSoft should look into, especially if they can link one authenticator to all of your NC accounts. It's completely optional, so people that don't want it don't need to get it. Those who do, will. Personally, I would probably get one. Even though I keep my home network very clean and quite secure, it's just one more layer of security.

I would like to see NCSoft offer these nifty Token Ring authenticators to give us account holders an additional level of security when logging in.
Lot of places are using these now, PayPal, Blizzard (World of Warcraft), just to name a few.
What they do is this. You log in normally with your current password and user name. then a screen comes up asking for a 6 digit code from the little authenticator device. You input the generated code and then begin playing.
This eliminates all the trojans, keyloggers and suspicious email spoofers, and other sources from getting into your account and doing damage to the players' beloved accounts.
