Character descriptions are now all one paragraph.

Will speaking in NPC chat give them speech bubbles?

Thank you! thank you! thank you! Castle or Posi or BAB or whoever at Paragon Studios restored the abilities of pets to talk and emote!

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah both chats do if you have chat bubbles turned on. I'll double check later though.. If you are on Freedom, or feel like making a temporary toon there, I'll show you. Just buzz me in game.

The character bio is one of the major features of the game that makes it stand out above many others. A bug like this is really a deal breaker. Without his bio, Captain Marbles is just another mass of pixels going SMASH. The bio was his motivation to SMASH, and now it's broken.

We NEED some redname confirmation on this. This really is one of the most irritating bugs I've ever seen, and I want to know if it's a bug or if it's meant to be like this. I'd at least like someone to say they know about the bug and that they're working on a solution. I'm more concerned about upcoming action and that it's being worked on more than I want the bug to be fixed.

Adding my voice to the pleas for redname confirmation and a fix, soon. Sure, it's not a game-breaker, but it is really annoying and a QoL thing that sticks out like a sore thumb.

I did something like this as a temporary fix:

[ QUOTE ]
Description: Short message here.
--------------------------------------------------
More info here.
--------------------------------------------------
Some more info here.
--------------------------------------------------
etc.

The ----- separates each section into a nice paragraph, but you run into your text limit pretty quick. lol

NOW I find out about the influence of opening the ID screen *facepalm*. I will now paraphrase Lewis Black to underscore my irritation with this bug:

"How dumb are we to be the most technologically advanced MMO in the history of mankind to live without line breaks in our character descriptions? We have men, we have rockets, we have saran wrap... FIX IT!! And don't come back until you do."

I wouldn't hold my breath, given how long it takes them to fix global channels color bug...

I put this on the Test Server's Issue 15 Bug list for Text and Grammar section. It's on the 1st page, 3rd post. Hopefully, it won't be missed. It's horrible and upsetting (It isn't fixed in the "Clopen" beta testing of Issue 15.)

[/ QUOTE ]

There seems to be someone who started a thread on the Test Server forum section also. I'm 5-starring each thread relating to this.

Does anyone know if this is/was/will be an issue/bug being looked into? If there were to be some sort of assurance that is is something that will soon be fixed (Like on or before release of issue 15,) I'd be quite happy and would lay off showing my dissatisfaction on the subject. I have not heard anything on the subject other then people displeased with this change. If someone can point me into the right direction, I'd be most pleased. Perhaps it could have been in a GMoTD that I missed?

Most likely we won't know if it's being looked at until a fix appears. Dev's of any software rarely if ever reveal what bugs are being looked at and fixed to their clients. Such a list quickly becomes a rallying point and source of countless arguements about whether this bug is more important to fix than that bug and which subgroup of customers is being favored/screwed by the devs.

It is cosmetic problem and not game breaking in the least. Yes, it's a QoRP issue as with the color chat binds but the game itself is still playable.

Is there any sort of workaround for the time being?

Let's say your bio turns into a wall of text. We know that not opening your Personal Info window will keep it intact, right?

So... is it possible to go back to the I.D. screen, reinsert the hard returns, and then not open the Info window again? Will that possibly get the bio back to normal, at least when others look at it?

Posted

No, by opening your ID I'm guessing the assumption is that you are editing it and the whole thing is transmitted back up to the server. Somewhere in that process, either in the client or up on the server, that text is filtered to remove any excess white space including empty lines or lines containing only spaces (I'm guessing at the lines containing only spaces).

The only workaround I've used.. is to put in something like this:
[ QUOTE ]
words here
--------------------------------------------------
A paragraph here
--------------------------------------------------
Another paragraph here

[/ QUOTE ]

About 50 dashes does the trick fairly well if the person viewing it is using the default info window size (or slightly larger).

The only problem is you run out of test room very quickly also. lol

This is a bad thing. I have been playing since the beginning and the character bio was always quirky, but never malfunctioned. It is broken and needs fixed.

A lot of vet players are upset due to their creativity being taken away by a lazy or careless programming error.

Right. Calling the programmers lazy is a sure way to make sure a fix for this gets fast-tracked.

And by the way, maybe you can show them exactly what was done that broke this and how to fix it without breaking 15 other things?

You know, to go along with the whole lazy and careless attitude you seem to think they have.
