can we get an hourly rate?

I'd like to keep my account active and play it every now and then but im finding im playing a lot LESS then I used to, and issue 14 holds nothing of interest for me...

I'd like to pay on an hourly charge as apposed to a flat rate...

$0.25 per hour I think is a fair price. Would allow for people that play less then 2 hours per day or less to save some money and not want to cancle the account...

I'd go for several months sometimes just using the forum and not playing.

If $15 a month is causing you THAT much financial trouble, then you may want to consider reallocating your finances.

Probably a bad business decision for them. Mainly due to:

People who play less than 2 hours per day are probably in the majority for this, or any game. People with kids that need looking after, jobs, school, etc. all would play, on average, a lot less than that. Take time away for weekend events or vacations, and you end up with even less of an average.

I'd say maybe $1 per hour would be a better rate, but even then I'd say it's not a good business decision for NCSoft.

At $15 or less per month, that's 50 cents per day in an average month. It's less than you pay for food, gas, or housing. It's also most likely less than you pay for movies, books, or any other form of entertainment. On an hourly basis, you pay far more for a movie. Likely less than for a book (depending on how fast a reader you are). Less than mini-golf, a trip to the beach, or a baseball game.

I don't really think that the cost really needs to be brought to an hourly rate, since you're already paying less than what you would if you were doing pretty much anything else.

And just FYI, I've been able to play for a whole 2 hours in the past two weeks, so don't think I'm a frequent player who's just trying to squeeze you for a buck. It would likely help me out. But it probably wouldn't help NCSoft out.

lol...some players have 3-4 accounts so that $45 - $60, but that still isnt to much, but when you have to cut corners the game is not needed and its just entertainment.

Under this plan, someone who plays 4 hours a day, 3 times a week, and every week in a 4 week month would end up owing less than the 15 a month. That seems like a pretty typical consistent, but not intense player. I can't see the devs dramaticly cutting their income this way. Further, it ands the "oh no, I forgot to log out last night" issue.

Most on demand services are one-and-done, or recurring monthly. The things that charge hourly are not to be discussed in polite society.

Well, at a certain price, offering an hourly rate makes good financial sense. Of course, that amount is well above the $0.25 the OP thinks is fair.

If they allowed you to enter your CC and be charged $3/hr of playtime, they could certainly stand to make some money. I don't think many people would pay that amount regularly, but some would take advantage of it for various reasons, and some fools would likely rack up significantly higher monthly fees by playing more than five hours (which, I would expect to more than offset the loss of revenue caused by some folks who would have paid a monthly fee instead paying the $3/hr rate and playing less than 5 hours per month)

Since when is it impolite to discuss the now long-dead services such as CompuServe, GEnie, The Source, and Prodigy?

Funny, I don't remember GEnie charging me $0.25/hour.

Honestly, I don't see the harm in NCsoft offering an hourly rate, but if they did you would almost certainly have a minimum monthly fee -- more than likely a reduced monthly fee plus your hourly usage rate. You might save a few dollars if you aren't playing at all, but they wouldn't pick a price that's going to allow even moderate usage at a discount compared to present rates. They will not keep your account open for free.

After several minutes of inactivity it automatically logs you off.

If you want to save money you could always take advantage of the multiple month subscription rates...

Too much hassle, too little reward.

Example:
The other night I was in the middle of an AE arc and my ISP went stupid and I lost connection. After about 15 mins, I gave up because the cable line was still dead so I went off and modded a few nerf guns and went to bed.
In the morning I logged in, and it said I was still logged in from last night, eventhough I really wasnt, but somehow the servers didnt recognize I wasnt on the other end. So thats 10-12 hours I wasnt really logged in, but the game said I was.

Also: consider the monitoring database that would need to be set up and coordinated and managed. Ugh.

$5 a month for 5 hours, 50 cents per hour thereafter (round any fractions up at the end of the month)?

My first couple of SGs have a couple of stories about how I passed out in the middle of the mission and didn't even twitch for a good 6 hours. My first phrase on waking up, "Hey, guys, where'd you go?" >_>

If I were paying an hourly rate then I would always be thinking "I'm paying to be on this crappy PUG?" or "Why am I paying to sit here LFT?" With a flat rate I know that I'm not costing myself extra money to fly around pointlessly clearing all the fog from the Independence Port map while I look for a team.
