Pvp on this game.
Theres a lot of things to take in to consideration for this answer.
1.) what makes a good pvp system to you
2.) How much are you willing to put in to learning and engaging in the pvp system.
3.) The pvp system here changes drastically every 4 -6 months. So what might be good to you or fun, might change. How ever the very opposite can happen as well.
4.) Theres multiple levels of pvp in this game in both skill and playing style. You need to figure out what is best for you.
5.) The answer will be different for everyone as they have different opinions about the system. How ever I personally feel the ideal system would be globally understood. So with that said I think the system for this game is lacking in many areas. How ever it still appeals to me enough to keep subscribing. This may be different for others.
Before I13 ...COX had the best pvp system out there in MMO's. It's just the dev's don't see how much potential this game had/has and did not really listen to the pvp community like it should of and release I13. Thus destroying the small but loyal pvp community. I14 seems like they are "trying" to fix their mistakes.....i hope for this game's sake they succeed.
As it is currently, I would rate PvP in this game a 2.
Yes, it's that bad. Well, at least for any new person trying to get into it. They made it so insanely complex, that nobody new to the game has ANY chance of understanding what the hell is going on.
Before I13, that is before they flat out destroyed the game, I would have rated PvP a 6 or 7. It was very far from perfect, with many game-breaking bugs, but at least things made sense. Certain builds had certain roles. And it was the ONLY game on the market that offered really high pace PvP in a MMO.
Unfortunately, the devs decided to ruin that. And what's worse, it's become very apparent that they don't regret it and will never go back.
ok to answer war a pretty decent pvp system was wow, i kinda like that but i wanted something more fast paced, and from what you guys have said it doesnt seem like the pvp is not that great on this game so i will probably not play it but i regret that because as im sitting here blowing the crap out of the NPC i was having alot of fun but just endgame i am a pvp [censored] and this doesnt have anything that can feed my addiction ill have to try and get it somewhere else. thank all of you for your imput.
the pvp in this game is still faster than WoW, except kinda not. It takes longer to get to a fight in Wow in that you move slower than this game, but in both games the advantage gained by in-combat movement isn't huge. Sadly in CoH it used to be a tremendous and very fun advantage, whether it was on a small scale of ducking behind/around/through obstacles to disrupt an opponent's attacks, or on a large scale of jumping from rooftop to rooftop chasing someone around a zone.
The dev focus is for us all to stand in a circle and duke it out because that's how they made the pve game. Static enemies in static locations. The person in charge of making the pvp decisions is a pve'er through and through.
but I'd rate it a 2 with almost no variance and like super, about a 7 before with moments of 4's and moments of 9.5's before.
PvP revolve around 2 thing
1/roll the FoTM.
you already won at 60% by picking some combo / AT that are easy mode.
to know which one, go in a pvp map and look what chain kill anything without any resistance.
80% of them are hero side.
2/ farm and buy set
-> now you can disconnect your brain and go on rampage .
that's all
oh and don't forget to make a bind that praise your "SkiLlZ"
that's all.
It's horrible. It makes WoW pvp look like the best thing since real people fighting.
IMO, zone PvP is the suck now, maybe a 1 on a 1-10 scale.
but i have found arena fighting alot of fun b/c that has drawn in alot more newer players. there are events on the various servers that have arena fight nights, for example on victory where i play, perilX and the rest of the PvPEC host weekly arena fight nights and they are rather fun. theres usually anywhere from 30-40 players who show up. it may be alot diff from older pvp, but its still fun when there are 40 people runnin around, and noones talkn smack or anything like that. its all in good fun.
pvp has def changed drstically over the last few months or so, but it is still manageable. i at first hated it completley with the new changes and quit pvpn overall for the first month or so, that when i read the forums post about the arena fight nights and now i attend every monday that i am able to. i still do not zone pvp as most of the zones are still filled with farmers and whiners, but thats ok, i found my fun elsewhere and its still pvp. this is a carryover from i12 and such, but right now, with DR in play in zones and most sensible arena duels, villains, when played by capable hands (rare), have a huge advantage over heroes.
why?
well, the nature of DR is to favor generalists and damage dealers and villain ATs are just that.
yeah. elusivity in its i13 state throws this off completely by actually allowing tanks to be threats in 1v1 situtations, but after the elusivity nerf and the melee ranged damage nerf (coupled with the tk blast nerf), you'll start seeing corruptors at the top of the food chain.
basically, my fire/cold at this moment only has issues with blasters with broken tk blast that spam it (there's like 5 people that do this in the whole game. because this game is full of unskilled players), sonic/ems (top outliers. :-D) and high elusivity toons that can't be debuffed adequately.
i14 takes away the psi/ems, nerfs the high elusivity toons, but still allows for an achilles heel in the form of sonic/em blasters (and /elec doms, even though as of this moment i know of only two capable players that have discovered the wonders /elec in freedom).
so yeah.

3. FoTM management is relative. Twixt outplayed most people on a dm/regen. Yeah, unorthodox tactics that made people scream and yell in broadcast, but the fact is, he got his kills, ran around at 400 rep and was definitely having fun.
anyways, if zone pvp was about fotms, you wouldn't see the 20 retarded tanks running around RV getting destroyed by corruptor duos just because they refuse to roll blasters.

Hey, im playing the trial right now and i understand at low level that their isnt much as far as pvp buti m okay with that. i have a friend that use to play and im wondering how well this pvp system is, but from what i hear its not that great. so in your opinions on a scale of 1-10 how well is the pvp.
What features does it have, form what ive seen it has arena and contested territories, but is there something equivalent to the WoW Battlegrounds or something like that or is it just not that impressive.

If your interested in a PvP game that you constantly have to re-learn every 3-4 months, this is the game for you.
Ugg, all your going to get is arguing asking that question. You need to see for yourself. It can be good and it can be meh. You have to see for yourself. To many biased answers here. Thats all you will really get. Make sure you PvP on freedom I guess. Thats seems where most of the PvPers are.
If you're new to CoH, you might find that PvP suits your style. Those of us that experienced PvP before they completely changed it might have different views (I still think it's fun but it's a shadow of its former self).

Old pvp was a joke. It was great for stalkers and the veats, and everyone else hated having toggles dropped. The old darth noobians and cheez sithians liked it...since their precious star wars galaxies got destroyed. Also the old 40' range on impale was gay. Mez length was real gay. Unresistable assassin strike was gay. Blasters unresistable damage was gay. All defense sets were useless.
The new PvP is a nice improvement but it needs some work. I think raising controllers/doms holds from 4 secs to 5 secs would be good and increasing everyone else's mezzes to 3 secs would be good. Also putting a floor on how low a mez can be resisted would help, based on AT of course, meaning tankers would have the highest resistance to mezzes in the game.
The new changes to Khelds has been wonderful.

1) as it stands now, i would say its extremely to people new to PvP here, simply put, the pvp mechanics are totally different from the PvE mechanics, and there is no in game resource that outlines those differences for you
2) before issue 13, I would say it needed a lot of work, and now it still needs work IMO, while i understand where a lot of the i13 changes came from, I do think they went a little too far
Really the most enjoyable PvP I would say is in the Arena both before and after issue 13, zone pvp can be fun at times, but at other times can be frustrating.
Honestly, I really wish the CoX team would just invite the Guild Wars team over for some pizza sometime, and have them take a look, and get their feed back on PvP since they both work for the same company. I think the tragedy here is that PvP here could be so much better with the right design and mechanics.
