Well ***k.

Death on an obscure friday for the fail. =(

My life and my son's continue thier eeire parallel. Last night a good friend of mine and my son's Godmother passed away after a battle with breast and bone cancer. My Godmother passed away at a similar age (from Diabetes), and I know what its going to do to him when I tell him. And there isnt a darn thing I can do about it. Perhaps it will help him get a little stronger emotionally in the long run like me, but the short term isn't going to easy.

This sucks.

No thread killing topic this time, but rather....

"What's your kid (or you) going as for Halloween?"

My son requested Bowser (from Mario series.. not Bowser from Shanana). And Im diligently working on it. Foam spikes FTW!

I was working on a quad suit, but I didnt get all the parts in for it so it will have to wait till next year. (The eldest is really into Naruto so I entertained the idea of making a Kyuubi costume.) No new costume for me this year *sigh*

Younger one is going as a Spartan warrior. He found a cool helmet so we bought a "bronze" shield and sword. We'll tie leather leggings to make the costume complete.

The older is going as the Joker. He even found purple pants but we're striking out on a jacket (unless we buy one new for $100+.)

Fab one. Hit the fabric store for a pattern and some purple fabric. Probably take about 2-3 hours tops to cut and sew one together. Total cost.. about $20 (pattern+fabric).

That's a great idea. Thanks. Haven't unpacked the sewing machine since we moved 13 years ago so I always forget about that.

Ash wanted to go as Rick Astley.. but we could not find a face large enough to cut out.. so we're working on a witch.

Tristan is going to be a mime.. the silence will be beautiful.

Tommy is going to be a ninja.

Little Guy is going to be Shrek.

I lurves Halloween.

For future reference, if you're having troubles getting a picture large enough to make masks out of, you could just print out whatever you find and head over to someplace that does copying/printing and have them blow it up for you on their bigger printers. They'll have good enough equipment to make sure it still looks good even though it's blown up, and even make it in color if you want.

Now that my acct is finally reactivated I can post YAY ME!

This year, weather permitting, the kids are dressing up as the following.

Jack is a kind of grim reaper. we found a cape with a hood, a scythe, and a bone mask. then a shirt and black jeans (it's supposed to be chilly.)

Gaelen wants to be Bumble Bee (Transformers)

Devlin will be Megatron (Transformers again)

And Aiden will be staying home passing out candy with Daddy .

Jack and Galen's school is doing this event on Fri called Trick or Trunk. It's where parents decorate their trunk and the kids get candy and toys out of it. I decided this year I'd participate and we're going to make the back of my minivan look like a HUGE open mouth with teeth hanging down and a massive tongue lolling out. very cool.

We went through the trick or trunk at the school behind my old house. Then inside the school they had some carnival games (ran a few in the past).

This year the place I live has ToT from 4-6, I also might see if one of the local churches has a open holloween event like last year.

C has a Princess Costume to wear, with a monster bag.

EDIT: I should have 3 bottles of wine called poison for holloween.

I'll post for Ima Mankiller since she won't be back till after Halloween, my oldest boy, (14) retired from ToT'ing last year and says he feels too old so he won't be going out. As for the others Maverick 9, Matthew 12, and lil Jessica 2 probably won't going out either unless Ima hits the local stores like Mcdonalds. Too cold in Kansas and I think both my womens are sick to go out Halloween.

That's sad to hear Steel. ToTing is the best way for me to get my free candy jones by "confiscating" circumspect candy.

Do what my wife does. She buys enough Halloween candy to feed most of the population of the greater Los Angeles area to "give out". Then, when hardly anyone actually comes by the house trick-or-treating, all that candy magically disappears into snack hideaways (which my kids are aware of and search out constantly like christmas present stashes). It keeps things interesting.

Oh, and if she asks you, I have no idea where all the SweeTarts went.

Here's a last minute costume idea (though it would probably take more than a few minutes to throw together):

My wife and I have 1 son together,1 year and 8 months old, which is a great age in my opinion. He's still little enough to play and rough-house with some, but hasn't quite reached the "terrible twos" yet.
My wife is pregnant with our second child right now(we don't know the gender yet.). She also has a 13 year old daughter from her previous marriage, but she lives with her father currently.

Whew. At 132pm the last snap was sewn in and Bowser is complete... 58mins before the school Halloween parade. No worries.
For the record.... Bowser is a brutal costume to make.
2 armbands with 4 spikes each (yeah he's supposed to have 4, 2 on each arm, but it looked to cluttered)
Shell with 7 spikes, each with orange band around and white band around the whole shell.
Tail with 3 spikes.
Hood with spikey hair and 2 horns/spikes with orange bands.
And the main body suit, 2 tone (chest), with zipper.
42 elements to the costume... that will see maybe 2-3 hours of action.. and probably wont fit next year.

I kinda wish I wasn't back at work now, but rather at the parade to see him all suited up against the other kids' lame costume =P. Ah well, Mom gets to boast today. I get to review code. =(

ZOMG NET!!! PICS!!!! That sounds awesome!!

For the record.. putting Mime face on a twitchy, itchy 10 yr old is like nailing jello to a tree... oh and the craptacular face paint does not take BLACK at all.. I had to use moistened black eye shadow, and it was far too early in the morning for me to use any skill.

OK SO trick or trunk is NOT a new thing like I at first believed. I think I really got into it though. One person had her truck tailgate down and you know those garbage bags that are shaped like a giant tarantula? yeah one of those.. that's it.. GAH! cmon man! Oh and did I mention that NO ONE came to my house this year? SUCKERS!!! I had HUGE bags each of twix, snickers, whoppers, almond joy, mounds, plain AND peanut M&Ms, and 3 Musketeers...now they are ALL MINE MUAHAHAHA. man Halloween was a huge letdown this year. However, my kids helped make me up for halloween . I was a zombie. It was great!

Holloween was a bit of a let down for me, but the little one had a blast. 1st part 4-5:30, 2nd party 6-8.

1) bag of candy
2) 2 parties
3) happy kid

alot of my issues were that things hit me hard as I really didnt get to make of my place that much (aprtments suck that way). My avatar is my results of hand on holloween and the morning after.

Weekend before halloween older son had a sleepover. I said good night to the fellas a 1:30 since we were making pancakes for breakfast and some of the boys needed to leave at 8:30. The rest of them went to bed at 2:30. It was our own little zombieland the next morning.

Younger son, not to be outdone, is having his own sleepover the 11th. God help us all.

My oldest son just turned 9 on the 1st. But he hasn't had a sleep over yet. I don't know if I want 4 or 5 8 and 9 yr olds running through my little house. Bad enough I have 4 of my own.. adding 4 more? I'd rather eat SPAM....with a spork... on a splate.
