ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations
LoTR? Different game. What's you're point about it? Just curious... Congrats on playing it, I guess.
There are different contacts such as these, and Mirror Spirit in Faultline, hero side, that are having... phasing problems, if you will.

You didn't hear it from me, but there's some funny time thing that is happening... Sorta like Back to the Future for Marty's siblings? Like that.

Or not.

I'm wondering if I should dip my toe into ATI/AMD waters again with their 38xx series release mid-November.
Unless you believe in miracles, no. Nvidia has a VAST lead in performance/price right now with the 8800GT. I don't see AMD catching up anytime soon.
Matter of fact, we could probably go ahead and view ATI cards the same way folks should be viewing AMD procs. Why bother when intel/nvidia is stomping the carp out of them across the board?
Waitaminute....
55nm GPU? Cool. At least it will be more efficient at sucking.
There's also a tidbit about ALL antialiasing functions working with HDR. We'll see about that.
Be well, people of CoH.
I saw a "leak" that they'll be ~8-10% slower than the 8800GT and $30-$50 cheaper as well w/ DX10.1. I dunno. It's tempting to at least try. Life with an Nvidia card (bah only an 8600 GTS) is nice. We'll see.

From what I gathered at pcper.com the advances will be via shaders after an 08 Vista update. No idea how useful it will be for XP users or DX9 titles.
I may still get it. Is anyone interested in an 8600GTS? PM me.
.....it's got to be better than my 9200SE. It gives up the ghost during the STF. Folding triangles of doom with their points aimed at the other players and VPU crashes during the final phase makes this an event a nightmare for my comp.
Next time I try it in safe mode.
36 level 50's in various servers...haven't been here in a while. It's now over 50
Click here for the Tom's Hardware Article on it.
I've got a deadline crunch, so I don't have time to read it. Take a look though and share your thoughts, everyone.
Hmm. ATI launching the first card compatible with DX 10.1 with the option to Crossfire up to 4 cards, no matter what the memory difference and frequencies are?
Nifty.
Any ideas on this:
My friend who has the same Mobility FireGL V3200 containing laptop as me, has started playing again. He downloaded the latest drivers that I discussed earlier. Set all the settings according to the guide, with some changes; no shadows, some stuff set lower for performance.
Now, it was working mostly fine, but today in Cap he's getting crazy graphics stuff. Inside the hospital, or zoned into a mission, it's fine. But outside in cap it draws triangles from the center of the screen to the edge all over. It's really hard to tell what's going on, they obscure vision, it appears that it's not drawing parts of the geometry though, looks like he's walking on air. Any ideas?
Dust bunnies in the works.
Playing on a blanket or something like that, perhaps blocking the air vents.
Fans failed if any.
Just plain bad in some way... ram, chip...
You might wanna start a new thread, post some pics, hijack this, dxdiag, that kind of thing.

Well, he's gone to cap a few more times and it hasn't happened again. Chalking it up to the (significant) connection issues we had at the time.
I am getting this error ATIOGKX2.dll, I have a ATI RADEON HD 2600 Pro (AGP) can someone help me please. I have tried everything everyone has said and nothing so far has worked. The driver is 8.410.0.0. The pc is a XP Home P4 2.60GHZ/2.60GHZ. Thanks in advance.
Please post your own new thread on this, drama, as it will be much easier to diagnose and personalize your needs.
Also, when doing so, post a dxdiag and a hijack this log, which will help us further. Read the 'Read This' link below.
Thanks!

Hey all,
I'm a non-computer-savvy user, and I'm wondering if I can get some help configuring my graphics settings. I'm often getting bad frame rates, even with the basic graphics slider at the second lowest setting (the lowest setting helps, but is really ugly. I can get better than that, right?). I've looked at the advanced settings options, but I really don't have any idea what any of that stuff is. Couple with that the fact that I have a somewhat older card in my laptop and I really don't know what to set.
Some info: I have a intel macbook pro, bought last summer, running XP home with bootcamp. 2 GHz dual core processor, 1 gig of memory, radeon x1600 card with 128 megs of ram. I'm consistently getting bad frame rates whenever any significant number of characters, powers, or mobs are on screen at once, or if I'm in a large and busy area like the RWZ, and huge loading stutter anytime I first enter visual range of a lot of character/mob models (think atlas' statue area) or the aforementioned large/busy areas.
I've looked at the settings in the first post, but I don't seem to have a 'catalyst control center' anywhere on my computer (I've looked - isn't it supposed to be next to the clock?). Also, some people have mentioned a 'renderthread 1' flag in the context of dual core processors. What is that, and is it something I should have? Again, I really am not very familiar with the nuts & bolts of computer settings, and I'm reluctant to futz with something that I don't understand. I understand that with my older card, I probably won't be able to run with as high of options as most people here seem to, but I have a feeling I ought to be able to get better performance than this. Can anyone give me a hand?

When you installed XP, did you find any motherboard XP drivers for your macbook? Did you install the latest XP drivers for your X1600 from ati.amd.com?
Those two items missing I would bet to be a good starting point.
Be well, people of CoH.
HD 3870 on order. We'll see if I keep it or the 8800GT.
Cool. Please inform us if all known issues are still known issues.

Honestly, it looks like it might be a long time (3 weeks or so). Backorder madness. At least I'm not paying up the wazzoo for it.

Enhancement Screens and X1*** series cards
If you have an X1*** series card, (may be present with the 2*** series cards as well, but this has not been verified by this author) either on the normal enhancement screen, or when putting enhancements into slots during a respec, the cursor becomes erratic when placed on the enhancement icons. In order to grab enhancements, you must have the cursor above and left of where it should be.

As of Issue 11, I'm getting bottom-third ghosting over water even WITH Low Quality water and no bloom, depth of field or FSAA. Is there any solution, or am I finally going to have to just deal with it?
(Running an X850 with the 7.10 drivers at the moment. Couldn't get the standalone-download 7.11 setup to run - it fails after popping up a couple of blank "Notify" windows with buttons but no explanation.)
EDIT: Solved by turning off the new Desaturation Effects that they snuck in. *sigh* I'll miss the nifty sepia-tone effect that I saw on Test, but having water that doesn't look awful is more important to me.

Has anyone tried running the ingame fsaa in 11 to see if works ok and if Desat or any of the others break it?
But still I fear and still I dare not laugh at the madman!

I still get the black world and working GUI if I attempt to use in game FSAA.

Ah, poo. That'll teach me to be optimistic.

When it comes to this game and ATI, being optimistic is the same as desiring large heated spikes to be driven into the arches of your feet.

Ghosting over water only occurs when you don't use my settings. The Patrons missing the majority of their bodies is a game issue that Cryptic will have to fix.
