Now saying Cast Away was a good movie because it had Tom Hanks is about the same as saying Last Action Hero was great jsut because it had Arnold Swarztneggar(sp?) in it. And LArry is only funny because he has the other three in Blue Collar after his act so you have to usually go through the drudgery of listening to Git R Dun every 2 seconds.

[/ QUOTE ]

Heh. I liked Last Action Hero, actually, and while Larry is my least favourite of the four, I still find him damn funny. (Ron White is actually my favourite, just in case you were curious...)

Probably why I didn't recognise it, since cast away was absolutely horrid. As bad as Larry the Cable Guy in fact.

[/ QUOTE ]

Now that is just plain insane. One had Tom Fricken Hanks and the other had....Larry the Cable Guy.

Well I can't think of a bad movie that Tom Hanks was the star in. Maybe I didn't like some as much as others but non where bad.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agreed. I don't deny Silverspar's right to not like a certain movie, however to compare Tom Hanks to Larry the Cable Guy just shows bad taste in my opinion.

Frankly, Silver, if you couldn't feel the pain of the characters at the end of Castaway at the situation in which they found themselves, well then I would suggesting heading to the emergency room and having yourself checked for a pulse.

Even worse. And this one had Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan and still was one of the most horrid movies I have ever seen (beaten only by Bad Lieutenant)

[/ QUOTE ]Raz, you really need to get out more, if you think telling me how I should feel about a movieis something to get all choked up about. Cast Away was horrid, Tommie boy didn't even put his heart into the role very well. Nevers aid he was a bad actor, quite a few movies I like that he starred in. However, Cast Away definitely was not one of his better pices.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I guess he lost his heart for the movie and role while gaining something like 30 pounds for the begining and then loosing 50 or 60 for the island scenes. It was also pretty phoned in of him to take on the challenge of setting a record of having the longest period of solo on screen time. Think about it, he had nothing to play off of as an actor except a volleyball....Nice of him to travel all the way to the south pacific to make that phone call too while we are at it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not telling you how you should feel about movies, I even said you had your right to dislike whatever you want, however many of your statements about the movie have been ridiculous. Especially your comparisons. And if you like many of his movies, then you would probably want to do him the service of not comparing him with a one-trick pony comedian like Larry the Cable Guy...but that is just me and my dislike of hyperbole.

Really? I can think of plenty:

The Da Vinci Code
The Terminal
Cast Away
The Ladykillers
You've Got Mail
Apollo 13
Forrest Gump
Sleepless in Seattle
A League of Their Own
Joe Versus the Volcano
Turner & Hooch
The 'burbs
Punchline
Big
Nothing in Common
The Money Pit
The Man with One Red Shoe
Splash
Mazes and Monsters

(Yes, I hated Forrest Gump and Apollo 13.)

Despite suffering through some of his weaker stuff, I liked him even in the crappier ones. And I'll be one of those people that continues to like Forrest Gump even when the hype died down and it became popular to hate it.

Not that I'd go see his crappier *movies* again, but I've thought he's always delivered a solid performance. Even in freaking Mazes and Monsters, he was clearly far more capable than the material he was reciting.

Actually, I can. It had the stink of Penny Marshall all over that movie.

For me, the concept of Hell boils down to a Penny Marshall / Ron Howard movie festival.

Ok, can't give you Mazes and Monsters, because I find Unintentional Comedy some of the best... But I will give you Joe vs the Volcano.

Still, think you're wrong about Castaway - nothing is as bad as Larry the Cable Guy.

Hey!
'The Money Pit' is a comedic masterpiece.

And I do like Cast Away. I can't recall Tom's acting, because it's been a while, but my entire focus was on the moment when you realize there hasn't been a musical score until he's off the island. It's a very powerful scene because of that simple thing. Sure, the imagery at the end is way too literal, but on the whole, it's a worthwhile, simple movie with some excellent images and uses of soundtrack.

Agreed. Castaway was a movie that let's you sit back and think, feel his pain as the character struggles. Sadly most people want glitter and ''explosions' and get bored with movies that portray nothing but acting.

Was that the best movie I ever saw? No but Castaway had emotion and we enjoyable to watch.......though its one of those movie you really only want to see once.

But everyone has his/her own taste, no sense in people fighting over each other's opinions......just move on.
