I don't know if any rednames are still reading this, or if anyone knows: but are there going to be any new costume options for Issue 8?

I'd -really- like it if they made sure that every new Issue had new costumes, even if they only had like a handful or something.

Making people costumes has caused me to realize that how your character looks greatly defines how you feel when playing him/her. And how if you look awesome, you feel like an awesome superhero/villain. And how if you don't (because you can't get the look you wanted), you can feel quite the opposite.

I was running around with the costume I made for DonnChadH's Ice/Axe Tanker, which uses heavy Villain and I7 parts, and I realized that how cool the costume looked with the Axe and the Ice effects made me feel really wicked, and I found it very hard to stop playing, because playing a character that looked so awesome made me feel awesome.

To the point where I'm sad that I've got to delete that test char now, to make room for my actual characters that I test stuff on on the test server, and also for mockups of other people's At/Builds, to see how their powers would look with the costumes I'm working on for 'em.

edit: Clearer version. I cannot stress enough how incredulously awesome the I7 costume parts are. The "Dress Shirt 2" and "Motorcycle Leathers" parts in that pic for example.

So hellaciously cool, that if you challenged them to a duel, they'd won!

Hey Arc,

I'm pretty sure the trench coats that will be out with the Vet Reward System is roadmapped for I8. The art's already in use in Mayhem Missions, and it won't be too hard for them to track the ammount of time you've held an account to impliment the system.

Other than that, anything else is up in the air. Posi hinted that wings will be niether part of an AT nor a costume part (he likes to keep us guessing), so this has led to a lot of speculation, that perhaps it will be a Prestige item (likely), or maybe a temp power (semi-likely), or maybe an accolade power (less likely).

After listening to Jester's Court tonight, I'm pretty sure that Terminotaur got all the credit for creating this thread (not that he didn't add a LOT of info to it). Grats Terminotaur

I did? Thanks, I guess. What is Jester's Court?

Really though, you should have gotten credit for the thread. I just contributed to it. And actually now that I think about it, there were a couple other things I learned from the event and forgot to post.

I forgot to post these earlier, but they are also things that I learned from the event. Again, as before, this is all subject to change.

Heroes going bad/villains going good - Positron indicated that this won't be coming any time soon. I got the impression that it hasn't been abandoned, but there are just too many other things that are higher priority.

Next year's expansion pack will include:
At least one new powerset for each AT (either primary or secondary, probably not both)

The zone that got the most votes on the boards a couple months ago. CuppaJo said that she was really excited about it, but coudn't talk about which zone it was that won.

Any word on if balance issues are holding this up? There's been a bit of speculation that things like villains defenders or heroic masterminds might be problematic. Can we either put that speculation to rest or speculate more?

Sorry, but I didn't ask. I suppose you will just have to keep speculating.

Interesting speculation. I wouldn't mind seeing more debate on this.

I am chagrined to hear how low this sits on the priority list. In fact, I'm chagrined at how low a lot of QOL issues sit on the priority list. Ahh Zeb ... you are missed!

Thanks Terminotaur, not trying to steal any of your thunder, just a little due credit would have been nice.

Jester's Court is on w00t Radio every night at ~7pm Eastern. They talk about in-game things. DJJester, along with Friggin_Taser, Pilcrow, and sometimes other guests, talk about forum stuff, speculate about things, etc. They were talking about this thread last night.

But I digress. Nice adds BTW, more interesting info. This especially caught my eye:

[/ QUOTE ]

This will rock. And considering that each new powerset costs ~$50k to create and develop from the ground up (according to DJJester last night), it's no wonder they want us to buy a box, if only to make back thier development cost. But I'm not worried about buying another box frankly (only buying one box a year at this rate, and have almost abandoned any other game).

I know how you feel, I'll be thinking and suddenly realize something I should have added to the OP, which is why I keep posting here too

I'm wondering if there is some balance issues with this that aren't quick and easy to fix. If, whatever's holding cross-over up will take a while to get developed or coded or whatever, it might seem more cost efficient to get several other things done first. I'm just guessing here, but no company has an infinite staff or gobs of time to dedicate to something. Perhaps they opted to get several things done at once instead of using the same manpower/time on one thing.

Trenchcoats and wings have been begged for since CoH beta, cross-over is relatively new by comparison. I'm not holding it against them, I am hoping that there will be enough other things that waiting for crossover won't feel too long.

Posted

I don't think balance issues are making crossover lower in priority, Cryptic may just have a honking big list of things they want to put in the game and allowing players to switch sides simply isn't as important to them as a lot of the other items on that list.

But giving it low priority does allow them to implement more co-op missions/events and observe possible balance issues there.

My take, anyway.

EDIT: some great info in this thread. Big thanks to Obsidius, Terminotaur and the others for their contributions.

Given how much scrutiny has already been given for the ATs (Hero and Villain alike) since CoV was released, I think balance issues have very little to do with it. Rather there is some fundamental code that would need to be reworked once crossover is taken off the shelf. Villains can't go into Steel Canyon from Siren's Call and Heroes can't get past the Arbiter Drones and hitch rides on the Black Helicopter line for example. AI Aggro flags would need to be reworked for each toon that was flagged as having completed whatever requirement they'll implement to make the crossover in the first place. Yes, it seems to me there are more design issues than balance.

Actually, you may be right, Iodine. I remember asking Positron about the /cov 1 command that heroes were using to get villain costumes.

He said that the reason that the command didn't allow heroes and villains to go to each others zones was because of some code they added in late beta or early live release. They had been having a problem with villains occasionally zoning to Atlas Park and they couldn't completely fix the problem. And the way the game is designed is that we don't actually have pvp or non-pvp zones. Literally every zone is the same, with the exception of Pocket D. Meaning that if a hero were to find his way to the rogue isles, he would be able to attack or be attacked by any villains there. And the same if a villain somehow made it to a hero zone. That could be a huge problem if, for example, a level 50 hero ended up in Mercy Island. So what they did to solve it was add some code that read your AT and if somehow you ended up in a zone from the opposite faction, you would automatically be put back in Atlas Park or Mercy Island. That was why when using the /cov 1 command, heroes would get the Mercy Island loading screen, then just as the zone loaded they would be sent to Atlas Park instead.

I imagine that they would have quite a bit of work to do if they wanted to make changing sides possible, just because of this problem.

In the first few weeks of beta, if you exited a mission in Mercy, I think it was snake mission, you be dropped in Atlas Park. The police drones would target and zap you back to the Rogue Isles but, if you could get past them, you could train at Ms. Liberty, ride the trams, Azuria wouldn't give any missions she just told you to talk to your other contacts... it was neat.

Some guy still had a Hollows mission on his character right up till the end. He took the mission, and while trying to wipe out however many Trolls got killed and landed back in Mercy. He levelled up a couple times in Atlas. And I think the bug that dropped you there was fixed before he cdould clear that mission.

Interesting that the AI of the drones would be able to recognize the villain flag on a player's character, even back in the beta days.

Veteran rewards system scale. Some rewards come early, others late. So you might get silly stuff (like the trench coats) after three months, but something with more prestige (and possibly some small, in-game effect) after, say, three years.
