This thread is solely for Mayhem Mission discussions. From the Issue 7 Training Room Patch Notes:

"Mayhem Missions

Mayhem missions allow villains to enter a large instanced outdoor mission map and create chaos. The eventual goal is to rob a bank – but there are lots of other things going on, too. Mayhem missions are set up for single players and teams. Extra mission time is awarded for destroying property and defeating police. Side missions that appear within the mission map award more extra time and other rewards.
The old Heists (Bank and Casino) are now available as normal Newspaper missions."

All off topic posts will be removed. Please do not post bugs/feedback/balance issues until you have participated in a Mayhem Mission.

HOOOHA!!! just remember omnifayt was the first to post in this great addition to the CoH gameplay!!!

But on a serious note will this somehow be implemented into CoH too? I mean i know heroes dont go smashing stuff. But they should have something new to get them away from the same ol mission types right?

Mastermind Pets (I tested with bots) take a long time to use building doors (I tried the police station, front door and inside elevator). This means the Mastermind is left on the other side of the door without any support. This should be adressed, as it not only casues a danger to the player, but also wastes precious time.

Also, I orgasmed three times during the mission. I think I like Mayhem Missions.

I crashed it. when we entered Bricktown, is was middle of sky with nothing else then a full crash.

Finally, Yay!!!! too bad I'm at work!

well I got to play a mayhem mission for about 3 minutes before the server crashed out and of course I lost the mission. but the psi paragon forces were ignoring me until I attacked them. Same with police drones. Shouldn't they be attacking me?

We shall remember - as we celebrate over our dark victory over all that is good! Muwahahaha!

Seriously though, it does seem like there would need to be some alteration to implement this on the hero side.

Perhaps heroes could be sent into the middle of a vast Arachnos base where they just have to take out everything. If it belongs to the bad guys, it's free game to get destroyed right?

But I really can't think of any way heroes will be able to attack civilians. Sometimes it just pays to be bad

Something I noticed about added bonus time...

When I detroyed a certian object, I had to destroy several similair (if not the same) obects in order for the time bonus to to kick in. Once it did, every item after that up until, like, 4-5 would apply the bonus, but then it stopped again...

Does this happen in cycles (meaning, I can repeat the process), or is there a cap on how much time you can add from one "source"?

A couple of remarks :

* AWESOME. Pure fun and real feel of villainy. COV just got greater.
*You don't need an AGEIA GPU to see letters fly from a destroyed mailbox (example). It seems the AGEIA GPU only adds to the count of items explosions produce.(There's a slider in the video options that allows you to up the count if you have such a GPU)

Question : you get extra time for defeating the police. I noticed that if you run past them and escape them, without defeating them, you get the bonus time as well. Was this intended or is it a bug ?

Other than that : WOW. Heroes definitely need an equivalent to this...

Bugs I noted:

No map in prison. This may be intentional, however the bank has a map. Again though... may be intentional. I can imagine being provided a map of the area I'm infiltrating and the bank but not necessarily the police station.

The villain in the prison ignored the door. As soon as I got close she popped right through the door.

She was EASILY distracted by civilians. Most of the time I didn't have her assistance as she was too busy beating up civilians. They either need to ignore civies or be more biased toward following me once I get to a certain range distance than continuing to beat up civies.

The 'hero' was just a lt in a cool costume. Not a boss, not an eb, not a hero, a bloody LT.

I played with the "vicious" setting and it spawned some bosses. I think my hero was boss. What setting were you playing on?

So. Good.

One comment: there is way too much glue flying around. Kudos on everything else!

Well I did a Rob Brickstown Bank from Stella in Nerva and it was in Nerva, anyways, it was on Relentless, pretty interesting on my ice/rad cor. The mobs were higher than I've played with on live in a while, and the psi mobs and police drones were interesting. The drones have horrible acc so I didn't get to see whether or not you go to the jail when zapped or it's just dmg or whatever. The fun part is destroying them! All of the objects in the area were 1-shottable by yours truly which was sensible but might have been more interesting if they did something additional or took a few more hits to take down.

Some Crey power tanks were talking about blackmail or something, I superspeeded by and one shot at me and chased me down so I fought back and earned a Key! All the while I'd been apparantly gaining time, I guess mobs randomly destroy things in these missions and *you* somehow get the time, because I was not destroying anything at times yet kept getting time bonuses! I took the key and went into a small building with a few drones and psi police people. I went to the top room and it was a CoH style map shrunk down, a little office and I saved some person who said 'The plan went off without a hitch'.

THe guy was a captive and I lead him out, I assumed exiting the building would solve him/it or whatever, but he kept following, I went into the bank with him and ditched him to get to the vault to see the hero show up sooner, the money to grab had a long time to 'collect' and it's still interruptable and there were ambushes while I did it. Then the hero showed up, a Hero class purple psycho. Energy/rad/energy or some freakiness, I was pretty much 3 shot though I had been at 3/4 health or so to begin with when she met me. At that point I didn't bother and died and needed to log, but overall it was very cool!

One thing is that there were a LOT of ambushes just through my little journey, if I hadnt been content to use warburg nukes and huge insps on test I'd have died a lot more I'm sure. I think it'd be very very interesting to have Mayhem missions give 1/4 debt or something, or your debt is halved for breaking out of prison or just completing the mission, since you seem likely to die and or may WANT to to get into the prison to do a side-quest.

Specs Ops annoying as ever, lucky AM gives +res to end drain or EMP grenades would have had me more often than not. Didn't see any other unique mobs, I was able to just slow civilians with ice blasts, finally some revenge for those times buying at Ghost Falcon where they push you every which way!

I think until a lot of these get done people will not know how to complete the side-quests though, because even though a smaller waypoint appeared to indicate which building to go to to with the key and where the money was in the bank, the rest is up to you. The time seemed to go by very quickly too despite stuff constantly adding on. You start with 20 mins and then work from there. Lag made things difficult and with things toned down it didn't look great, but I think with nicer settings on live it'll be a blast. I'd have liked some more direction in what to do with my hostage and maybe how many side-quests were avialable to me on the map, or a hint or something, because many will not like having to kill everything and click every door to try and get all the stuff in the Mayhem Mish done.

Otherwise, very nicely executed devs!

Mine was VERY fun, Brickstown map, lot of chaos. I can see not hating newspaper missions now that these are in the mix.

My biggest problem is the new set of "issues" with MM pets, but that's fodder for another thread.

Lowest but if it's a hero... it shouldn't drop down to a LT.

That means it went hero->eb->boss->lt. Didn't realize the hero->eb code goes that far... unless they never spawn as anything OTHER than bosses (I guess I'm assuming they spawn as hero-level mobs because they refer to them as heroes) which would explain it.

Meh the glue was okay... however the damned flashbang grenades just sucked! If I didn't have my sing and a villain I broke out of prison helping me (when she wasn't busy bullying civilians) I'd have eaten dirt a lot in the mission. Those grenades are just awful and they last forever.

On a level 8 Ice/Dark Corruptor:

I managed to swing one and it was a lot of fun. One thing that's curious is that it's not obvious how to get extra time; you'll blow up, say, 10 parking meters on a street and get nothing, then blow up a single barrel and get "Bonus Time! 1:30 for Barrels!" I was never able to get any bonus time for cardboard boxes, cars, or crates. I'd suggest reducing the time bonuses and making them deterministic (every barrel's worth, say, 0:30, and you get time for every single one), or if there's some sort of counter, making it apparent what it is ("You destroyed a barrel! Destroy 3 more for extra time!" ala a racing game) I always got 0:30 for resisting arrest, however -- and very curiously, at one point, things I couldn't even see were apparently blowing up and giving me extra time. Perhaps the other villain mobs were attacking the scenery?

Being able to shoot citizens is fun, but being unable to affect them with those shots isn't.

All in all, I liked the fact that I could choose to do it as a straight heist run if I wanted, or I could hang around and blow things up. I didn't like the fact that I never felt pressed for time, though. Perhaps that changes at higher levels. The performance of the zone was very good on my Athlon 64 3700+, so that's good, too. I think these missions are a great addition to the game and only need a little bit of tweaking to be truly grand.

Level 5 toon on villainous in Atlas Park map has level 10 cars that con purple to me. Really doubt this is working as intended.

Heh, your mayhem mission spawned a lieutenant?

Gee, mine spawned an EB Manticore

Thumbs up on the Mayhem missions! Well executed and fun!

I failed mine, though Longbow are much easier to handle than Reinforced Doors...

...why, yes, I was playing a Dominator (mind/psi, threat level 28), how did you know?

Too.
Much.
Awesome.

There were some odd things, like my kidnap victim following me around the whole map

Generally speaking, Ive seen that theres 4 sidequests in every mayhem mission

Free the Villain ((Not noted with a yellow marker))
Bomb the Building
Raid the gang hideout
And Kidnapping

Each nets you multiple minutes of bonus time.

ALSO. There are EXPLORATION badges in these missions. Got Brickhouse in Brickstown, Anarchist in Founders.

Oh man…this is an amazing feature...I’ve done 3 already and found some badges. first time i found a key, it was an arson mish and i just armed bombs and started burning i was like [censored] and got an arson bonus time...i laughed so hard i scared myself. These are just so much fun…so much more to do now. Worth the wait indeed.

Mine was a level 40 mission from The Brit in Grandville. It was a 14 minute bank robbery in Founders Falls. It was set to relentless and it was tough, even for a Brute.

The only reason I ended up in jail was because of those damn spec ops emp grenades.

I busted out and broke out the villain, Silent Blade. She did ignore the door and attacked the longbow who tried to come and stop me. However she would not follow me out until I finished destroying her door, even though she was already outside it.

She was very helpful though against the Longbow boss that was inside the bank vault.

I got a hero and he was nasty in the bugged sort of way.

Holo Man was lvl 42 yet summoned a Spectral Terror and Phantom Army that were both level 51! I burned through all my break frees to keep from being terrorized. Then his dispersion field required three keen insights to hit him through it, so the Stalker pet was useless in that fight. I have two accuracy SOs in every attack, so that is a ridiculous amount of defense he had for a +2 boss.

Ran 2 tonight. Lots of fun but need to decrease the time a Mastermind's pets take to go through doors. You're on a time limit and wasting time waiting for your bots to come out of or go into a building is not good. Also you should be getting time for every object destroyed, not just certain ones.
