This is incongruous due to the fact that they consistantly have loads of bandwagon jumpers for every AT they buff, why should blaster be the one they care about and ignore the fact that everyone jumps on the whatever AT it was that was buffed last?

Secondly, "City of Blasters" is a myth, it was "City of Fire/Dev Streetsweeping Blasters". Massive difference that no one sseems to want to get because it's easier to present that myth in their mad attempt to make sure that they get to eat our lunch.

If _Castle_ reads this, I have a serious question...

_Castle_, the blaster community has been told by the devs (pretty sure it was States himself) that blaster secondaries were getting fixed. Its been over a YEAR since we were told this. Why the long delay, why no progress report, why does it take so long, and how much longer, if ever, are we going to see the secondaries reworked?

If I were Castle, I'd demand a raise. If I were doing 11 people's jobs I'd want to make sure I was paid for doing 11 people's jobs.

Seriously, if any company has actual plans to hire a person to do a job, there is no way it takes this long to get people hired. (don't know for sure, but I'm thinkin it's been about 6 months since it was mentioned, even longer considering when COV's beta was)

You post a position, hold some interviews, and pick the ones you like. Add another couple of weeks for HR to get their crap together and there you go. 3-4 months max, preferably shorter than that.

Either this was something States really wanted to do, or he was just blowin smoke up everyone's [censored]. When the boss, the head honcho, the main man, the big chief says we're gonna get some people, it really should help to expedite the whole process. Unless if what the boss says, and really wants are two different things.

Yes, this has bugged me as well, was it post I-5? where he said just after I-5 they would be looking at and re-working blaster secondaries? I though post I-5 as in how long it took post I-4 for stacking armors...and i've been waiting...and waiting...

I don't disagree with anything you say LH, just saying that there was a perception in the community that has taken root and no amount of weed-B-gone seems to get rid of it, and I wonder if the devs aren't leary of doing something that might be perceived as recreating that mythological time.

That said, the dev team has pretty much painted themselves into a corner with way they have handled melee classes, and I think that to truly fix blasters would require a whole lot of work, and probably more melee tweaking that they are unwilling to do. So we just get more "we're looking into it" and "...after we get finished with Controllers..." type statements.

As the other ATs get perfected, the Blaster will just fade away, and it will be none but the most dedicated that play them until you start getting statements like "A Blast-what? Oh, you mean the fifth archetype. Didn't the devs remove them?"

To gain more experience/money/magic/runes/red pages/blue pages/coins/gold/whatever?

Honestly, I think the tankers are going to disappear first. Those who are level 40+ now were already 40+ back in the golden days of tankers. All the new level 1-10 tankers pretty much quit by the time they get to level 20 and hit the brick wall of nerfed defense.

If you have a level 20-something character, look around and you'll find a lot of scrappers, defenders, and controllers (in that order), followed by blasters, then the rare 1 or 2 tanks.

By the 30s, you will probably not find any more tanks ... meanwhile, the scrappers and controllers become very prevalent.

Until blaster issues are addressed most blasters are going to see a dev saying "I'll look into it later" and merely think "more of the same". We have heard the song and dance Pilcrow. I acknowledge that Castle has helped scrappers and stalkers a good deal however, when it comes to blasters I'll just wait and see. I am not holding my breathe.

I'll have to echo Concern on this one. We've been told before about intent to fix Blaster secondaries and we've gotten nothing. Castle has done good things with some ATs, but as of right now it's just another in a long string of promises.

As for blasters being ineffective and being in constant debt yadda yadda yadda. Look at your build. Respec. I'm level 47 now, and I havn't had more than 100k in debt since dinging 40. I only die when aggro mismangement goes bad. I never die soloing because I don't try to do more than I can handle.

Do blaster secondaries need evaluation? Yes.

Has it been a long time? Yes.

Are the problems this AT faces any more dire than any other issue the game faces right now? No.

Relax. The only argument in this thread with any relevance is the one that I'd like to see what the development team is thinking reguarding blasters etc.

Now, you may say that if they are not GBI's then how can they be more important than another. It is only because there are very few GBI's ever IN the game.

They are so oblivous to us and whats going on. They probably still have intraoffice emails touting how well liked and loved defiance is. Im guessing they are all Nixonites, believing in the "silent majority."

Fixes, yes. Complete redesigns of several powers and/or powersets, no. Unfortunately, what a lot of you are looking for is the later.

I'm (ever so slowly) going through the list you guys put up a while ago. I've referred a couple things to animation for bug fixes. Many things, I'm still scratching my head of how to fix in such a way that they are useful -- snipes are a good example of this. Simply increasing the base damage is dangerous, and we can't make it exempt from ED. So, I'm thinking of workarounds, which I will toss upstairs once fleshed out. Then, if it is approved, I'll be able to make the changes.

That process happens with each and every change (read: not a bug fix) I do.

EDIT: Adding a couple things.
I put in a fix for Endurance Drain that I think you guys will like. It is in I7, because it was a huge amount of data changes.

As for changing secondaries, when I was interviewing for this position over a year ago, this was the thing I mentioned I wanted to 'fix.' It's still something I want to do, but there are a couple technical and design philosophy problems to overcome. The design philosphy isn't easy to change, but it's hardly in the realm of impossibility. The tech side, though, is very much non-trivial. Since I've no control over programming schedules (for good reason, I might add) it is something I cannot do much of anything about.

FYI: my first COH character on Live was (is) a Fire/Fire Blaster.
