mind/ and /fire are obviously premo but earth/ and /energy are both pretty good in pvp as well. Earth/ has a great (8sec? something like that) stun and /energy has a longer ranged attack chain + powerboost.

The fact that people have a hard time with him at all disturbs me.
I killed him easily (as in..no insps) on my unslotted fire/kin. On my IO'd out fire/em, I didnt even kill the adds because I killed him so easily/quickly. Hell even my grav/ta didnt have trouble with it.
I didn't even know this was a problem for people. -
This thread gets less and less interesting the longer it goes.

You should definitely dust it off. New vigilance increases your solo damage and rads are always awesome on teams. PvP IOs aren't a requirement for pvp. They just help. You read a lot of talk about perfect builds on this forum because that's the goal people shoot for. Most pvpers, however, run builds that cost less than 7bil.
And rad/psi is still a great build. The only problem you'll run into is the fact that rad debuffs de-toggle when you're held, which means you'll never keep them up against trollers/doms that know how to play. That doesn't mean they're unbeatable, just that you have to change your tactics a bit. -

PFF isn't on the phase timer so it's a more reliable source of escape/mitigation.
Most people experience issues with PFF (and phase, for that matter) when they use it as a last resort when they're about to die ala hibernate. You want to pop PFF/greens when you know you have incoming pressure to mitigate/negate it. -

Its also a great pairing for a brute when farming. The -def helps against +3s/+4s so he can seamlessly plow with SC/LR-->TS-->BL. Kin are obviously amazing here too.

So 30% is the benchmark on defense?
Would it be more ideal to grab hover and get my ranged Def up then? -

I'm a long time PvPer and havent played my blaster in PvE since I got my accolades, which was years ago. I want that to change but I have no idea how to build for PvE with IOs on a blaster.
Can anyone link me a build that I can use as a starting point? -
Just reactivated, good to see that there's still a bit of pvp going on. I'm down for tomorrow.

We should really stop pretending like PvP had a lot to it pre-i13. It wasn't "chess". Nor was it the "checkers" that we see today. It fell somewhere in the middle, where the gameplay was still pretty simple but the metagame (builds, team setups, etc) was much more complicated.
People could still win via faceroll back then (Fire/EM + stacked EMP buffs anyone?). That's why we wanted changes and were initially excited for the i13 "extra attention" promise. We whined just as much pre i13 as we do now, it's just that now that we've seen such a dramatic new low come out of such an exciting promise, the situation seems hopeless.
Some of what happened in i13 took the game in a positive direction (the changes to control timers, taunt, animation-->damage conversion). It's just that the homogenization left such a bad taste that we didn't care.
So here's to hoping. Not for a revert of all the changes, but for a revision that makes things better than they've ever been. -
