Guide to CoX Zen

After playing CoX for a while, I have found that certain simple truths exist and that once understood will make life a lot easier for you and possibly everyone else.

I am going to start the ball rolling by posting a few tid-bits of wisdom(?) and encouraging everyone to do the same. The one thing I ask is that if you add to this thread, you have to express each thought in 1 or 2 sentences at most, not in long "this happened to me" stories. After all, Zen is about expressing complex truths in a simple manner.

<ul type="square">[*] An ounce of heal is worth a pound of rez[*] You will die repeatedly and emass tons of debt when you are just about to level[*]The badge you most want is the one that will take the longest for you to get (IF you ever get it)[*]Contacts are not your friends; they are out to get you killed. If they were your friends, they would give you respites and break frees for free whenever you talked to them.[*]Your baby/dog/pet/phone will cry/bark/wet your floor/ring at the worse possible moment.[*]If at first you don't suceed, you will get a debt badge soon[*]Either your tanker or your healer will quit on you during a timed mission when you are in a PUG[*]Of all the things I miss the most since I installed CoX, my life is what I miss the most[*]If you are having arrousing dreams involving Statesman or Sister Psyche, it's time to take a break
I now pass the batton...

- It is entirely possible that the badge you are struggling for no longer exists / never existed, does this invalidate your efforts?

The Hollows is what teaches newbies how to RUN.

If the low-level blaster on your pickup group has one of the damage badges, you are about to find out why.

Anytime someone says "Watch this", it is probably a good time to start backing up and looking for exits.

Dying is funny the first few times and then it stops. But if you play long enough, it will become funny again.

If the leader of the team quits after inviting you, this is an indication of things to come.

Do not let the behavior of one member of an archetype dictate how you feel about the rest of them.

I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other.

From the writings of the great teacher O Cumon:

"Debt, or as I prefer to think of it, Karma, is the simplest form of re-incarnation most of us will ever see. After falling in battle, we wake to find ourselves whole and ready to fight again, but with a heavy weight on our soul. Some of us are more capable of bearing this weight than others, and some of us are so weighted down that we rapidly accrue even more karma.

Therefore, my pupils, remember this, in times when you feel the weight of your karma pressing down on you with a heavy hand. Karma is the universe's way of reminding you that you are alive, with the chance to correct your past errors, and a second chance to prove that you are mightier than your personal demons. In other words, the more karma you have shouldered, the more alive you are......

Now go, my students, and fall in battle, that you might learn the humility and strength of character that karma teaches us all...."

No...i was more refering to badges like Archmage Badge Accolade and such. 200 Pantheon Masks and 200 Illusionist Decoys, think about it for a minute...

When you get your cape, you'll show it off for an hour, when you get your aura, you'll sit under Atlas everyday.

You will receive many blind invites throughout your lifespan, thus making your lifespan shorter if you accept.

Even at level 50 with the godly build of the century Lusca will still eat you =(

BP masks are easy. They come out at night in TI near the DA gate. Get 4-6 friends in a team, patrol that city section at night, and rinse and repeat until you all have the badge. It usually takes 3-5 night cycles.

Illusions, on the other hand, are a collosal pain. My suggestion is to find someone with a carnie mission, get a team of 8, and farm it. Master Illusionists are hard to kill, so you can clear the map of everything else and just go to town on the spawned illusions. It might take a few hours. Good luck!

*The quickest way to acchieve debt is to say something along the lines of "allright finally out of debt"

*The target you chose to anchor darkest night, rad infection, etc will be the first to go down.

*ADDENDUM TO ABOVE*If your anchor is not the first to go down it will retreat across the entire map before you can shut off the power thereby aggroing the entire map, much to the dismay of your teamates.

If someone on your PUG says, "I don't mind debt", "I love debt", or "I have a million points of debt, what are you worried about?", invent an emergency call from your SG. If you don't have an SG, register one.

It is well to learn CoX terminology. "PL ME PLZ" means "would you please leave this zone as quickly as you can, and put me on ignore as well?", "gimmee some inf" means "When you don't cough up your hard-earned cash, I will stand here and insult you to your face", and "Why the hell would you slot THAT power?" means "I am really looking for some debt, so would you mind leaving the team and the mission so I can get down to business?"

It's all in understanding the language correctly. :-)

I'll almost certainly be happy with I7....."SOON(tm)"

Too bad "Maturity" isn't an Enhanceable power.

When having eaten four aim enhancers, loaded buildup, standing directly behind the enemy and starting assassin strike, you will miss, and start getting pounded on.

When having to clear lost from any area, there will be a billion errinites and rectors, and not one single lost will drop a mez protection tab for ya.

When you finally clear said lost, THEN you get the mez protections.

Whenever doing a defeat all mission there will always be one straggler that will take your team 10 minutes to find.

- The universal signal for "CHARGE!" is for a team-mate to drop onto one knee. That means they are bracing themselves for the rush of enemies you're bringing back to them.

- The shortest route between any two points is boring. Fighting your way to a mission is a good way to replenish your Inspirations.

-Kheldians don't always know how to play yet.
-Getting to level 50 means you no longer have much incentive to play that character, so enjoy the ride while it lasts.
-Don't buy TOs. Don't even keep most of your TOs. Sell them all (except maybe accuracy.)
-You don't need a "healer."
-Corollary to the one above - learn to identify when a mission is simply too hard. Team composition is seldom as much to blame as team intelligence or level spread.

- The final glowie will always be "bugged" until you spend at least 30 minutes looking for it, finally checking the entrance room

- No time is a good time for a Malta Ambush

- The devs do not lie. They tactically release small portions of the truth.

- Your level does not reflect your wisdom.

- Forums will either anger or amuse you. The key is to find the latter after reading the former.

- Do not complain about Roleplayers on Virtue. It's just silly.

- Some people are better than you at some things. This is the challenge at level 50.

- A good build is no substitute for a poor player.

- There is no Forum Cartel.

-- When your sensei said, "In order to dodge the bullet, you must become one with the bullet", he did not mean literally.

-- He who goes first, often attracts much aggro.

-- You can please some of the people some of the time, and the harder you try to please those remaining, the longer the thread will be.

-- Though the wise man would let sleeping werewolves lie, it is the rare hero who is wise.

--Early to bed, early to rise means you'll most likely miss the best PUGs.

-- A stitch in time means you'll probably be spending a lot of time at the Tailor.

-Lucks do not make you lucky.

-Enjoy powers that make you say "WOW" because they will be nerfed.

-If you see a much higher level exit the building your mission was in then you must assume two things:
1) There is probably and ambush of Malta behind you
2) That building really knows how to multitask

-Try not to get jaded to quickly. Shadow Shard is still an amazing zone.

-There is no Zen in PvP. If you can laugh at yourself your blood pressure will be better.

-Inspirations which you need will never drop.
