They said they are adding Paragon PD, with trenchcoats to patrol the streets of paragon city.. My bet is they will be the majority of Mayhem mission opposition. I could also see some of the Paragon gangs getting upset at us destroying thier turf.

Prolly also gonna see random heros, such as the ones in cape missions. Im guessing we will see them after the 'triggered events' that were mentioned to occur in mayhem missions.

I have to say, as bored as I am with longbow, it does make sense. I mean, whenever Magneto is up to no good I'd say about 90% of the time it's the X-Men he ends up getting in a fight with. As villains we just have to get used to seeing the same group of heroes over and over and over and over again.

Until we get thrown into some weird alternate reality where we suddenly become the leaders of the heroes and everything's thrown all out of whack and some of the heroes become villains, but not all of them, and then the universe suddenly ends and everything's back to normal except a few of our dopplegangers from the other universe made it into this one which causes all sorts of other crazy things... anyway, the point is, um, the point... well it's in there somewhere, you figure it out.

First, Mayhem missions aren't generally at the Portal Corp.

Second, Longbow is one of the groups you might be fighting. There are others.

[/ QUOTE ]

Third. Still sick of seeing Longbow and CoT...

Just saying...

Would like to see Malta operating in CoV, more from the Wyvern, etc. Especially want more good guys to fight. Even the latest info on I7 today makes me feel like I am a hero, or at best a rival gang in a turf war. Mayhem Missions do sound like a step in the right direction, but don't forget from an overall motivation and storyarc perspective we'd like to be VILLAINS not just playing king of the hill.

[/ QUOTE ]

Longbow are crap. They don't even look cool. Somehow they're supposed to evince the retro Golden Age/Silver Age but they just end up looking like embarrassed mercenaries with spandex wedgies.

If we're going against a hero paramilitary org. can't we fight something as sophisticated and original as the Malta?? It was great taking on Gunslingers and giant robots. Instead we have inferior looking Statesman clones using the silliest gun model in the game. Yeah, fun. Plus they're in every other mission. At least give them some cooler vehicles instead of recycled Sky Raider skiffs.

[/ QUOTE ]

I have to agree. Its a shame that the only Longbow with decent costumes are the Spec Ops, and they use Stealth so you dont see the costume half the time.

Longbow are way overexposed in CoV. For some reason they created an interesting heroic group of magic users in the Legacy Chain, and then promptly proceeded to not use them very much.

It may be your choice of contacts, I rarely deal with long bow and constantly have to deal with legacy chain. In fact I've beaten on them so much I'm seriously debating making them the mysterious group that caused one of my former heroes to get tossed into the Zig in the first place.

While I'm not strictly opposed to fighting CoT and Longbow in the later levels (well OK, I'm opposed to CoT, but that's because I just don't find their missions very fun), the OP has a good point. CoH had a real problem in that it's late game enemies were of a type that often just didn't make you feel like a superhero. It's funny IMO to fight all-mutant gangs and magic-wielding mobsters in the low and mid levels, and at the high levels.... you're just fighting a bunch of paramillitary guys. Even that wouldn't be so bad if it was just a few missions here and there, but in the comics you don't see Superman, or Green Lantern, or the Authority or any other high-power superheroes fighting a bunch of guys with guns and a few high tech gadgets. It's kind of silly to make heroes of comparable power here do that, and I'd really hate to see villains in the same situation. I mean, can you seriously see Magneto or Brainiac having to fear a Malta sapper or Longbow spec ops? It's a silly image.

What would you prefer? Having Paragon City defended by the legions of Lanaruu? Or Malta?

Frankly though I think this is actually a worthless rumor, Longbow is a special devision intended to moniter the Rouge Isles, chances are this new department of the PCPD with the trenchcoat cops and the new prototype police-drones will be defending Paragon City.

...Yeah, we could settle for that crap... or the Devs could spend some time checking out the best looking SG's and outfits from Costume contests in CoH and import them into to dress up the "authority" groups some.

t least in City of Heroes, while you do have to fight the Circle of Thorns all the way from level 5 to level 50, at least they don't make up over half the missions, and all the trials. In City of Villains, though, you fight Longbow in your first mission, you fight them in at least every third mission all the way to level 50, you fight them in every mission in a PvP zone, and you fight them in the cape mission. And who do you fight in at least half of the missions other than the Longbow missions, once you hit Port Oakes and from then on out? The Circle of Thorns, of course.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh please! On my (lvl 11) dominator I have fought against Longbow exactly once! Once! And that was the training mission in Breakout.

Only now have I gotten a mission where I know there are Longbows.

I have fought against CoT maybe two times. And one of them was a simply get and run.... Get the victim and get her out.

If you don't want to fight Longbow or CoT, then read the mission text more thoroughly. It is often quite clear who you're gonna go up against.

With this crowd it is a pretty much given that some people will gripe and whine about anything... It is really amazing that some people actually seem to play this game for the sole purpose of putting it down.

Not at, it is merely a reply to the statement that Longbow and CoT is in every other mission from level 1 and up. That statement is simply not true.

But yes... he is quite powerful.

What you quoted said level 5 not 1 so they were not the only ones exaggerating. Longbow missions don't really start to overpower everything until Cap Au Diable, but once you hit Nerva that is pretty much all you have, longbow, COT and a couple crey and rikti missions. The fact that longbow are the only thing in PVP missions(Yes heroes have only Arachnos but holiday missions and PVP missions is all the heroes have to deal with). Longbow and COT are in both respecs, first one dealing with those and a few legacy. Cap Au Diable SF, 1 longbow, 2 COT and 2 legacy missions. Higher levels you have COT or council paper missions or longbow PVP missions. The majority of missions you see are longbow or COT I would say 15+.

Be careful what you ask for. I remember the villian groups introduced for the hero 40-50 range were Carnies and Malta and the sub group Knives of Artimis.

Yay for psionics, status effects, stupid amounts of End Drain and massive amounts of caltrops.

I just hope the Council sticks around 40-50 as the newspaper mission option of choice. I wonder if they've ever datamined the newspaper missions 35+ and what the ratio of players doing Council missons to CoT missions is.
