some of the nicest people I have ever seen. all great drawings! Id draw some but im not that comfortable with my drawings yet. Used to draw comic style alot, but got out of it. Here in the last 6 months (after looking at a certain MMOArt.com site) I started to draw again. Im getting better, just takes awhile to get the hang of it all again.

But thanks to Jamaro I have another hobby to add to the 50 I allready have.

Anyway back on topic. Your son has some great toons to color there!!

OK, you can add another guy to the list. Superman was the first thing I drew when I was about 5 years old and it began a 30 year love affair with all that is "super". My mom still had the drawing and framed it for me when MY son was born 18 months ago.

Seeing the OP reach out to the community to help out HIS son and feeling the love come from you guys really moved me. I can imagine how great the OP must feel seeing the enjoyment his son is getting from everyone's drawings bringing his creations to life! You guys are a hell of a great group of people and after 10 years I'm picking up my pencil and sketch pad hoping to fire my son's imagination when he's old enough to enjoy his own heroes.

Thanks everyone!

Static Your piece will be on the list when I launch MMOART Toons in the next few weeks. It was supposed to be launched this month but the huge response to our anniversary events has slowed it down a bit. I have a wonderful idea in store for you too. Ill send you a PM later this evening!

GB. Totally awesome man. I am looking into this kids comic book camp for the boy. It's only 8 weeks long and I guess they let you play around and help you with a story. How perfect for him.

School is in progress. I am quietly pushing the son to do some more work. He has added some to his story and get this. The main BAD GUY is his LONG LOST FATHER. I was like WHAT? Make it his UNCLE or something, but noooooo thats what he wanted.

I don't know if you can call me a pro, but i can give you some tips.

Don't use "How to Draw" books (i never did anyway), they don't help IMHO. Just go out to a comic shop and look through some of the books, look for one (or a few) with some poses and a style you might like (perhaps your favorite artist) and take them home (pay for them, of course!) and trace the poses, faces, whatever you'd like to get better at creating. Sort of give yourself "lessons."

After you've traced a few and got a feel for the anatomy and such, try doing some work of your own. Use the books as referance material if you need to.

And, last but not least, always always ALWAYS use your imagination.

I cant say I agree with you…at all. Its very important that you learn and understand the basic structure of your subject, whether it’s an inanimate object or a dynamic super hero. In fact I’ve had no formal training and got my basic direction from “How to Draw” books. As The_PMD mentioned, I have all of the Burne Hogarth books, Christopher Hart has 2 really good ones, and I have 4 or 5 great anatomy books that I reference on a regular basis. Another good thing to do is to just draw things in life. Just go out to a park and do quick sketches of people so you can see how they move and how they actually interact with things.

I dunno. I learned completely by working from comic books. Later in life I took some life drawing classes... But I've never found the "how to draw" books helpful, nor anatomy reference. I just get confused if I try to think about muscle groups and things like that... I know what a person looks like, and how they should look when they're in a given position. Trying to break the whole into parts doesn't help me at all. That whole technique of drawing a skeleton or cylinder/ball model and then work from that doesn't help me at all... in fact it almost inevitably leads to me balling up that piece of paper and tossing it in the trash.

For some reason the only way my brain can process the task of drawing is to draw the whole, and not the component parts. Oftentimes I don't even draw the figure under the clothes.

I've found that the simple act of drawing, over and over, teaches you anatomy. Because you can tell when something looks wrong... You don't need a book to tell you something's weird about the arm in the drawing you just did... And if you keep trying you'll eventually get it to look right... And now you've learned the proper anatomy without having to shell out on a book

It's a perfectly viable method of learning to draw, to just draw from other people's drawings, from photos, from life, and keep drawing until it all makes sense. This is probably a REALLY right brained method of going at it... But it's what works for me.

Well we think his written story is complete. Now to get him to do some comic pages.

YAY!!!

Well still not done. The son doesnt want my input now on putting a page together. So now he is slacking. Plus I guess they introduce 'cursive' writing in 3rd grade and he is fascinated by it. I hope to get him to do something.

I haven't read through this whole thread just the beginning but I'll draw them if you want, may take a bit, and I am not all that great of an artist, but if you want.

Just so everyone knows. The kid is still working on this. He has been busy in school. It is amazing how much they have going on for a 3rd grader.

I hope to get something going soon. Maybe coming the T-giving break.

So I am making toons using CoX to dulpicate the feel for my son. Here is one character CRASH (Charging Rhino on Champion). I am hoping he likes them enough to do a comic from screenshots and his story.

Aww. that is a cute character. I hope the story is going along well. Yeah, I have a little cousin that is going through the 3rd grade and I was amaze at what she all she was doing. So school first! Comic later. Cannot wait till it is done though.
