Dark Armor/Melee

So then, its official. We're getting Dark Armor and Dark Melee in I7. What does this mean?

I don't know about you, but I think cloak of fear will be awesome (assuming we get it, and it doesn't disappear like quick regen did).

i hope for DM there's buildup instead of soul drain. would be kinda stupid if the powerup move for DM knocks them out of hide also hehe

Well, they removed follow up from claws and gave that set build up, I don't see why they wouldn't do the same for DM.

I dunno. DA doesn't really seem like a stalker set to me - the ideal form of stalker damage mitigation is defense, not resists. Though I suppose if they're putting regen in, why not.

I don't have much experience with DM, but I can say it'd be hella cool to watch a shadow maul score criticals with every punch.

It doesn't crit with every punch. When it crits, the game takes the damage you would have done, and puts it all in one lump sum for the crit.

i honestly hope they dont include shadow maul in the set. being planted for 4 seconds as a stalker = a free ticket to the hospital

I'll be honest, I'm a tad disappointed.

Not that I'm unhappy that Stalkers are getting DM/DA. That's fine. I was just hoping we'd see that Dual Daggers set.

But oh well. Perhaps the future.

As for what DA will lose in the transfer- I should think Death Shroud and Cloak of Shadows would be prime candidates, given one's uselessness for a Stalker and the other's redundance. Though it would be nice to have the second stealth already available in the secondary set, I doubt that's a precedent Cryptic would want to set.

Now, what will DM lose? I'm guessing Dark Consumption.

Uck. Give us ONE dagger.

Dual is too cliche.

Also, if we got dual, there's a good chance they'd just reuse existing dual-wield animations. So we'd all look like Scrapyarders.

Dual is the generally agreed upon preference. Throwing fireballs and lightning bolts is cliche, too.

Please, forget those weapons, I want a Scythe.

Anyway, Cloak of Fear + Hide? hmmm..

But trust me, I'll be the first DM/DA Stalker on Justice if the weapon was a Scythe.. and I'm willing to put money on that.. 25cents..

As he said, the Red Caps have dual daggers and are quite spiff. Besides... have you ever played Tenchu? Ayame is quite the ninja with her dual tanto (or whatever it may be that's very similar to tanto).

I, too, was a bit disappointed with the lack of Dual Dagger Stalkers and Chain Dominators... but eh... at least people can now stop saying "omg dark iz so purfect 4 stalkurz cuz itz darkness!!!11"

Where was this set during launch?? It would have been more thematically appropriate for Purgatory. Not that I don't love the lil' ninja/regen guy, and maybe I would hate playing a DM/DA toon (hated my scrapper). It just would have looked more copasetic.

Then what will it be due to? I'm not seeing the issue with Shadow Maul. Don't forget that Dark Melee's attack powers are individually stronger than other sets because it only HAS four real attacks, as opposed to the six or seven that other scrapper sets get.

My expectations: the obvious, Confront becomes Placate, Soul Drain becomes Build-Up. I'm thinking Touch of Fear and Dark Consumption will both get the axe. One becomes Assassin's Whatever, the other will be turned into a more conventional attack. All attack powers will get toned down a little from their Scrapper counterparts, since that will put DM Stalkers on even ground with other sets.

Death Shroud is definitely the power getting removed from Dark Armor in favor of Hide. A damage aura is antithetical to the idea of a Stalker. Cloak of Darkness may get changed too, but if there's one set that should provide better stealth than all the others it's Dark Armor. It'll make up nicely for the fact that resistance is worse for Stalkers than defense, and it doesn't reduce downtime like Regen.

I was wondering if anyone was thinking the same thing I was. A */DA Stalker may very well be able to hit the stealth cap without having to team. That by itself will be very interesting, if it comes to pass.

Oh, Red Caps have dual daggers? Didn't know that. I haven't been on CoH for quiiite a while.

And IMO, they're probably going to toy around with Cloak of Fear and Oppressive Gloom too. Those don't seem very....stalker-ish powers.

(edit: ugh. TRIPLE stacked stealth? Imagine the threads people are going to make on the pvp boards when this comes out.)

I agree with pretty much everything you say except Touch of Fear getting the axe.

ToF fits nicely in the same mold as the stun powers in MA and EM. ToF like those powers is a non-damaging utility attack that mitigates damage. IMO it's a bit more powerful than the stun attacks since it's not as resisted but it might make up for DM's lack of attack choices.

Any idea when I7 is slated for release?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Stealth and CoD are mutually exclusive. I was always under the impression that they don't stack as it is.

Well, yeah. But hide stacks with pretty much every other stealth power out there, I think - or does it? I'm not really sure myself. Doh.

I want it to actually be a melee set. Three out of nine power's actually being punches, doesn't qualify it as melee. Either that, or give us freaking street fighting already!

And I second, third, and fouth the nominations for dual daggers. Please!

I would say that CoF and OG are very good damage mitigation tools. That is if they keep them in the set . And dont forget about the sick heal .
