Comic PDF #9, Ghost Widow Clix Updates?
It's up for download now, my character Officer Celara managed to make it into the comic, I'm so proud!
Here is the link.
ftp://ftp.cityofheroes.com/comics/topcow/
You mean posted here maybe?
I've stopped relying on the nameserver recognition for Cryptic/NCSoft's servers.
Just mass download from this server of theirs that always seems to be updated.
(Ish 9 went up just yesterday I think.)
Good idea. Thanks for the link!
Nice... Now I just wish theyød get those last two issues of the BK comic up. I know how it ends... But I wanna see it.
So, I finally took the time to read issue #9 of the Top Cow comic, and I really dug it... except for the sudden drop-off at the end (felt like there should have been more to the ending but they ran out of space).
Back Alley Brawler really came off as a bad mother-shut yo mouth (Just talkin' 'bout Back Alley Brawler). It was a nice three issue arc.
The player fiction was of a really high calibre, too... compliments to Lucien Soulban. His story about the daughter of the fallen hero was wonderful (and RoughTrade, I'll be very interested to see where your hero registration story goes... funny stuff!).
Great job to one and all!

Hey, thanks for the compliments on the community section. Really nice to hear.
I'm working hard to find the best fan work out there and bring it to your eyes. Keep reading!

The Back Alley Brawler story is my favorite so far. The ending was a bit of a letdown, but the rest of the story was great.

Fan story was very well written, story arc, while overly reliant on shock value, is still a nice turnup from some previous ones.
May I ask why Numina keeps showing up as some writer's dues ex machina device? I don't think any of us expect a primary hero to get toasted - like the Voyager or Jean Grey, these people seem to be effectively immune to death - but for one of the 'Surviving' Eight, she really doesn't have much of a role.
This is the second time I've seen her in the comics, and both times, she ends up being used simply as a rez ring. Are there any plans to add some degree of personality, or even just drag her along on the next incarnation of Bill and Tedd's Excellent Adventure? (Given her tendency to revive, heal, or bring back people, you'd think she'd have been the first being, astral or not, to reach, say, the hospital in this issue for example.)
I also think that there was a little too much gratuitous-feeling "shock" scenes, and that the ending was too quick.
Honestly felt like there should've been another Issue to finish this arc with the right pacing.

We got our Ghost Widow Clix for both our accounts the first week of January or so, by the way. We sent in our info soon after CuppaJo was posting the link in her sig
Got mine the first week in January as well. Faxed the form to them as soon as Cuppa posted the info like the first week in November.
Okay, so Numina is Empathy/*? */Empathy? Or is her Signature Power the ability to use the Medicine Pool without whipping out that stun gun thing?
Storm Summoning is great because it makes you better than everyone else in the game. - Camma
Knockback is mitigation. It won't be removed just because meleers ***** and moan. - Chaos Creator
I'll agree with the "let down" ending.
It was Dues Ex Machina. Back Alley Brawler's actions ended up completely useless. Everything Sister Psyche did to save Manticore? Meaningless, because Numina saved him. Everything Back Alley Brawler did to protect Manticore and defeat Protean? Useless, because Manticore kills Protean (even has the magic arrow to do it with)
We're presented with a problem (Manticore's impending death and Protean's resurgance) and the author hand-waves them away at the end (Numina ressurects them and Manticore has a disruptor arrow). This probably wouldn't be as much a problem if the author wasn't a master of building drama. You expect alot, and then he extricates himself with a quick explanation, you say "Oh." and that's that.
But I liked the exploration of Back Alley Brawler and Manticore, that was cool, but this ranks third for stories thus far... though the art was quite nice. I've been very pleased with all the art from all the comics thus far

Ah cool... thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the story. If you have the original line of COH comics, you'll also find my first story "Skein of Things" in Issue #11.
Take Care
Lucien
I don't know that I'd call it "third-best" in my personal hierarchy of storylines... I felt that it had more character-driven writing than the other two Top Cow story arcs we've seen thus far, and I'm always in favor of that.
Yeah, Numina seems to be everyone's favorite bail-out device lately... "Well, we've really painted ourselves into a corner here. Lets call in Numina again." Hey Manticore, maybe that's a future story-arc that you should suggest to the writers: Numina gets tired of blind team invites from the Freedom Phalynx, decides they'll have to get themselves out of their jams for once, and takes a day off
I just got the feeling that there was another page or so's worth of de nu mount (sorry French speakers... can't spell it) - a closing scene between Manticore and Brawler talking about what they'd learned, how they'd grown from the experience, etc... again, the ending came too soon.
I liked Comic #9, but there were two main issues I had with it:
1) In the one panel with the younger Back Alley Brawler on the roof, it shows Paragon City with War Walls, but according to the official timeline the War Walls were only built during and after the Rikti War, with Rikti technology.
1a) This is one thing that's kinda been bugging me since the first page of the new comics. :/ I mean, ingame, you can clearly see buildings outside of the areas protected by the War Walls, and the ingame map shows streets outside of the War Walls, but in the comic, it shows just mostly empty space...
And aren't the War Wall force fields blue?
2) So, which version of the Back Alley Brawler is the real one? They've got the video/Blue King version on the cover, and the ingame version in the actual comic. What?
61866 - A Series of Unfortunate Kidnappings - More than a coincidence?
2260 - The Burning of Hearts - A green-eyed monster holds the match.
379248 - The Spider Without Fangs - NEW - Some lessons learned (more or less.)
What befuddles me is why Manticore's even *in* the ICU, or why they even used shock paddles- the Paragon hospitals have access to Rikti tech, most notablly the regeneration chambers- sure, the teleport could have been blocked (This has been established both in game and in the comics), but since he was still alive, it'd been *trivial* to walk him over to one of the regen chambers.
Seriouslly, what the heck?
Tygara - 50 Claws/Regen/Power Scrapper, Virtue- Member of Kitties on the Prowl.
Shadeburn - Dark/Rad Defender, Virtue- Member of Catch 'Em Crew
Nature Boy' - Elec/Ice Blaster, Virtue - Member of Young Phalanx

There were, uh... it was... ok, it was my electric blaster Bilskirnir's fault.
I mean, come on, I didn't know where I was... I'd been out in King's Row drinking for, like, three days straight... All I know is these guys with white masks who look suspiciously like Vhaz Mortificators are coming at me with some kind of needle, and I kinda panicked. Sorry about that Manticore... I really didn't mean to short out the Rez tubes at the exact moment you got brought in.
Can I buy you a beer to make it up to you?

This screams of the times I've read the synopsis of a book, only to find that the idiot that wrote it never even read the book! In this case, the writer may not have played the game and Cryptic forgot to give 'em the breakdown of the technology.

Yeah... kinda felt that too.
But still enjoyed it.

Thanks. Gonna have to give at least some of the kudos to Artic Sun for next month, the second act was kind'a falling flat until he gave me a nudge.

It's been a fair bit for Ghost Widow's clix especially, but I was wondering if we could get an update on when issue #9 will go up for download, too.
Thanks.
