I was on one of the two teams that got together to take him down yesterday. I got two badges during the battle.

Did your teammates get them as well? Something's wrong with the badge dispersal. I was on a team and we soloed the Cap monster and nobody got a badge.

Yes, Ghost of Scrapyard and the other Giant Monsters of CoV are currently not working right. They are not auto-scaling their damage taken/received to your level.

We have a fix for this in the pipe.

Thanks for your feedback on this.

I take it that TF badges are broken as well?

Yea, when I ran to the ferry last night I saw this big blue guy get zapped by the drones, then noticed it was the Ghost of the Scrapyard.

Doh

Oh and my friend did the first SF and got no badge at all...

So who ARE the giant monsters in CoV?
They're one of the reasons why I love playing CoH/CoV

Giant and rare monsters are awesome.

My first encounter with the big guy, he was actually literally standing outside my mission door when I exited. That was the most sound I ever heard while in the process of zoning out of a mission.

In Paragon, we hunt the monsters. In the Rogue Isles, they apparently come looking for you.

Ghost of Scrapyard does indeed give the badge, but he is like Adamastor or Kraken. only team that does most damage will get the badge. i ran into him last night on Virtue with my lvl 30 dm/da brute. i had 2 other ppl on my team, a fire/thrmal rad corr, and a robot/traps MM. there were many other ppl around fighting him, but after he went doen, only the ppl on my team got the badge, Hammerdown it was called.

when i tried fighting him at lvl 20, i was being 1-shotted everytime from him. at lvl 30, he was doing maybe 200 dmaage per hit with his hammer. big time difference there. strongly suggest, like others have said already, to either get to lvl 30 yourself, or get on a team with lvl 30+ to take him down

Two, or even three teams ought to be able to get a badge out of a giant monster, since you only have to do a certain percentage of damage to get the badge (memory's fuzzy, is it 33%?)

That said, this would explain why Deathsurge may as well have a big sign over his head that says "Not under level 20". A big group of us tried to take him on, and even with my Poison debuffs we couldn't even scratch him. And a couple nights before, when I was lackeyed to a 27 villain, he was a piece of cake.

BTW, giant monster XP scaling is broken too. Some people get XP, but my level 26 self didn't get a thing when I helped beat him. No badge, either.

I think the post above you might explain why.

I got the badge for beating him in Beta.

Just a quick question here...what is the benefit from even taking the time to kill this guy?

[/ QUOTE ]

He gives off a badge that unlocks a contact on Nerva, Crimson Vangrant or something like that.

[/ QUOTE ]

Awesome, thanks.

hammer down badge from ghost of the scrapyard (sharkhea isle) unlocks contact Crimson Revenant @ loc -7.5 107.9 6646.0 which is near Timothy Raymond.

Just killed the ghost on justice, and i'll be doing the story arc from this contact tomorow. =)

Scrapyard is awesome for DM/EA brute. I always had something to drain endurance from =).

currently he regens like crazy so solo i could make his bar move, but it was like soloing hami a stalemate till couple of my sg mates got out of their mission n Blaize came and rad debuffed him.

edit: judging from the intro to the first mission it looks like this is the story arc to take down Mynx (the trainer of skyway city in COH).

It was about 2 months ago on Freedom for me, but I lucked out. I had exited a mission when another player asked me if I would join their Scrapyard team. Apparantly Scrapyard had just spawned and didn't have his followers yet. He was just standing there in some spot when we attacked. He's tough and there were deaths involved, but since we didn't have to fight his followers it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

.... just wait'll you are on a Scrapyard team and after much trouble, you get him down to 1/3 health and then..... he suddenly just keels over on you. He's not droned. Last night this happened on top of a grain-silo? near the ferry. There were no drones around; we were 50 ft off the ground.

No one on the team gets the badge. They've got a bunch of debt, but no badge.

THis has happened to me 3 times on two different alts, I am officially on strike against hunting this guy until he is fixed. Right now there is ZERO incentive to hunt him.

I helps if you actually know how things work rather than simply blindly lashing out.

Scrapyard isn't broken - he is being nailed by the 'kill field' that surrounds the Black Market.

Any stone brute with fully slotted granite and rooted can tank scrappy all day with no problem. Just get a few high levels to hand out lackeys and his followers are no problem. Really, he's pretty easy to kill.

Heroes : Angrem (50 Stone tank), Exo Inferis (50 Fire blaster), Exo Proteus (50 ill/emp), IceVengance (50 cold defender)
Villains : AtomBomb (50 Rad/Kin corruptor), Aleks (50 SS/Inv brute), StoneLethal (50 EM/Stone brute), Davroz (50 Bots/Dark mastermind)

Thanks for reminding me that I need to whack this guy on Freedom. I tried way to early on, now it's time for revenge!

Ahhh, so to post at all is to "blindly lash out." I see. Useful info. *sardonic rotation of eyes heavenward*

It might help to have all the facts before you render such august judgment: in this case, we were nowhere near the black market when Scrapyard up and died on us, not to mention the fight was progressing in a vertical fashion: he was running up and down the same set of stairs near the ferry, not running pell-mell through Sharkhead.

Waste time working on this GM at your peril. He is nowhere near fixed and you stand a vastly greater chance of not getting the badge.

Saw him last night, too - rounded a corner on the way to a mission and almost plowed right into his whole entourage. From the sound of it, my decision to make a "hasty tactical withdrawal" was the right one :P

That might have a slight bit of truth behind it, were this incident isolated only post I9. As it is, I have had this happen to me quite a few times, even in beta. If he is isolated, its almost like theres a kill-timer on him, and he dies if you don't take him down in a certain amount of time.
Getting the badges is possible tho, and the arc from crimson revenant is a lot of fun.

I've been on Scrapyard teams twice only to have him blink out on us, though once, we confirmed his immediate respawn in Potter's Field and took him out anyway. The other time, nobody bothered to go look, but the first experience sort've makes me think that his disappearance might be tied to a REappearance somewhere else.

Of course, it could also be total coincidence, but might be worth investigating for a team he disappears against.
