Devs: Will Mission Completion Share make it to CoH
Well, hopefully they do a better job implementing the newspaper tech into CoH than they did in CoV. CoH already has a place with endless, pointless missions that goes nowhere (Shadow Shard.)

I don't see the newspaper working quite so well for us...
'I see in the paper that the bank was robbed yesterday. If only I'd been there in time to do something about it.'
Nah, a police radio or something of that ilk is a much better idea.

Probably more of a police scanner radio they listem too or something like that.

Fantastic! I wasn't sure if you guys were going to overhaul missions for Newspapers or not, glad to hear thats coming up too. All in all my biggest gripe about CoH (the running back and forth between contacts and missions) is going to fade away. Happy days.

Does this mean with the newspaper tech that level 50s will have access to new missions outside of Shadow Shard??

And the lack of XP due to mission sharing giving completion XP and not the "defeating hordes of enemies in the mission itself" XP. Still, for pain in the [censored] missions, a great thing.

Quoted for emphasis. Newspaper "tech" is a great idea, Devs, but a little switch to something more "active" and less "research oriented" would be warranted.
Hooray for sharing mission completion though... those of you who aren't in CoV Beta are gonna weep for joy when you see that little announcement pop up on your screen.
There was a TV show in the USA a couple years ago about a fellow who got tomorrow's newspaper delivered today, and went around trying to change the future by preventing catastrophes.
I'd have paid more attention to the sports page myself.

Sure!
Jewel of Hera on display - curator expects "no unusal security problems..."
Bippy to accept key to city - "Although the Zig let Dap Dap escape, we're sure that he wouldn't dare interrupt the ceremony..."

All of those seem like perfectly normal headlines for Paragon City - but I suspect you could hang a mission on them anyway

I think those are subordinary for our fair city.

Allow me to throw my two cents in the ring (or something) for this idea. Not only could you have fun with the mission dialog (like Radio Free Opportunity! from CoV), but it would be a more reactive approach, which is what heroes are known for. They don't stake out the 22nd National Bank in the hopes that it'll get robbed; they see a suspicious-looking van parked half on the curb in front of it and go to investigate.
The newspaper is perfect for villains, but a police scanner or Freedom Corps emergency radio thing is more the speed of heroes.

There are ways to do newspaper missions for heroes.
"The 12th National bank is getting a huge shipment of bills from the Federal Reserve this afternoon. I better go keep an eye out, just in case."
"The Paragon City Museum is opening a new exhibit of rare magical artifacts today. Sounds like just the sort of thing those Circle of Thorns dastards would try to rip off."
Etc. Although, the police radio idea is nice; that'd be a source of timed missions. "Stop the bank robbery; you have 30 minutes."
Okay, so if suddenly we are getting our missions from the newspaper (or police scanner, or Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh on talk radio), what happens to contacts?
This may be a dumb question that if I had played CoV beta at all would be easily answered.

What is this "pay-purr" of which you speak?
[/ QUOTE ] Nono, it's pay per. That's in I7; they'll be nerfing contacts so we can't get instances from contacts anymore, only the kill X missions and the "look at the pretty statue" missions. If you want instances, you buy them with your credit card on the PlayNC site.

Not sure if you're already in CoV now, but for those who aren't (and I'm feeling verbal):
CoH: Initial contact based on origin, who introduces you to other contacts in a long chain that essentially goes until Peregrine Isle and the 40-50 range.
CoH Optional: Zone Contacts who start their own chain (ie, Hollows)... if you're the right level, just talk to them and they give you new missions.
CoV Mercy Island (first zone): Short (two person) chain of initial contacts, that then dry up.
CoV Other Zones: You get the newspaper. Each zone has a broker that, once you do X number of newspaper missions, sends you on their own mission, which earns you real contacts with story arcs, etc. Those are sometimes a 2-3 contact chain, but eventually dries-up/outlevels, and you move on to the next zone's newspaper/broker.
CoV Optional: Independent contacts that you can just talk to, provided you're the right level and have a certain badge, they give missions.
Thoughts on CoH "newspaper" possibilities:
- They could just filler missions instead of street hunting for CoH.
- Or a broker-style system that could provide a completely alternative set of contacts than the current set. (A way to get CoV enemies in CoH more?)
- The number of newspaper missions done could become a badge or two (for CoV and CoH) which accounts for something (special contact, accolade, etc.)
- If you outlevel the old contacts due to using the new system, you outlevel them, which'd bite. Unless you have alt-itis.

Has no one else seen the TV show where a guy would get tomorrow's paper? I think it was called "Early Edition". Now that could work.
Hummm I see the Skulls pulled a bank job, think I'll go stop them.
