Since there are only so many business hours in the day, you can't really speed things up much even when turning an 8-hour workday into a 10-hour, as that's only a 25% increase. Then you start having to worry even more about employee burnout, too, which will just slow you down again.

[/ QUOTE ]There will be some linkages on the server side, where both CoH and CoV will be talking to the same server, but the clients will be distinct. While in those linked missions both sides will be able to see the same things, the exact graphics used will be better on the CoV side.
Give them a few more bananas and they will be fine...
A graphic update might require an entire engin overhaul, depending on how this game was programmed....
either way...your looking at a HUGE download... and possibly a mandatory memory upgrade...
we will see... programming this is definatly gonan be interesting.....
I see signs of construction in certin areas of the city already tho *near subgenetics in SC* so who knows..maybe they are already doing a graphic overhaul...
which brings up another question.... how long b4 someone begins complaining about the massive download they gotta do if and when the updates are released.......im on 56 k dialup so.... ill go first :P

Everybodys worried bout the graphics i was looking at the gamespy review or whatever you call for COV and it sayd theyre gona charge for it seperately now thats sort of understandable since its completely stand alone and you dont need city of heroes to play it but what if you already have city of heroes and want to play city of villians, I mean id love to play both but im not paying 30 dollars a month out of my paycheck just so i could have a villian as well as a hero.

Not right away. A lot of the art has to be redone to take advantage of the new features, and we only have so many monkeys here. I mean artists!

Instead of crying DOOOOOOOM, if your computer is so ancient-primitive that it can't produce, for example, light bloom, just click the option to turn off the extra graphic doodads like, for example, light bloom.

Uhm.. CoH and CoV will be completely different games. CoV will not be a patch on CoH. It'll be completely seperate.
So if you have CoH installed, then you'll also have to install CoV into it's own dir. They won't share any files on your computer. A patch for CoH will not work on CoV and vice versa.

You are right, but if you have both games they will "interact with each other" Thats the best way I can some it up. I believe there is an offical post on how that will work floating around somewhere.
With all due respect to all you folks out there with top of th eline computers, I am currently unable to play the game with the graphics turned all the way up. I have a P3, 3Ghz, 1GB RAM, and a Geforce FX5200 graphics card. I "can" turn all the settings up, and the game looks beautiful, but then it's a slideshow. Perhaps optimize the game a bit more so it runs more smoothly so we can play it on the high setting, before upping the graphics load even more?

Swap out the fx 5200 to anything nonbudget and you'll be good to go =)
ok dude, I got a, 2200 AMD (1.8ghz) 512MB, and a.. get ready for this.. Geforce 4 TI 4600, 128mb. one of the first 128mb cards, computer is going on 3 years now and I'll tell ya, I got everything on COH maxed plus running at 1024x768 and it looks great and runs fine. Hell, I even play HL2 and it runs fine.. not the GREATEST... lol but it runs.

Geforce TI are a great series of cards, truth be told you don't need a high end cpu or memory to play this game, all those special fx are pretty much handeled by your graphics card. Yesterdays top of the line is better then todays budget, and often at comparable prices.

I've never been a fan of cut-scenes, but this made it sound cool. Damaging objects too, after CoV, or before?
I would hope the new graphics hit CoH with CoV (like bloom lighting, reflective armor, ect). The cutscenes do sound great but I don't imagine they are in every single mission so I could be patient enough to see them added to CoH sometime after CoV...not too long.
I mean cutscenes, graphic boosts, power effects boosts, bases woudl be enough for me to buy CoV just as an expansion. I"m going to be rather upset if I buy CoV and the only boost I see right away in CoV are bases. I honestly think from a customer satisfaction point it would be best to take some workers off of i6 (for instance) and toss them onto CoH's CoV upgrades. After all many people have no interest in playing a villian but Cryptic still wants them to buy CoV. Thats fine, you guys deserve the money,j ust give us heroes a reason to buy that naught looking box. =p

What I'm concerned about when it comes to the upgraded graphics is the hardware side of it. Are they going to be upgraded in such a way that some players may be forced to upgrade their video cards to compensate? Or will they upgrade them in such a way that the engine simply won't try to display the new "spit and polish" if the card can't handle it?

I kinda feel the same way. Secondly, I kind of like stumbling around in the dark figuring things out for myself. If I got a job doing it, I'd have someone to tell me how to do it and ruin half of the fun.
