A Free-For-All Mode

I'm honestly not too bothered about how many can participate in a free-for-all, or how many teams, or any of it. I'm too busy imagining a large brawl of scrappers, regiments of blasters lining up and opening fire (not likely, but still a fun image), and the inevitable ring-around-the-chain-hold multi-controller fest.

At first glance this sounds great , and I look forward to participating but It could easily turn into Arena Gank.

You get 4 groups fighting , 2, 3 members each and two of those groups are from the same SG or allied or whatever they just roll over the other two because they have not coordinated like that.

Hey, so be it. Nothing you can do about idiot human nature.Those people will become known.
I look forward more to 1on 1's and SG' against SG where the lines are clearly drawn and the sneaky jerks factor is reduced.

Cause Phase Shift + Pets wasn't already going to win everything, we need another mode for them to shine in.

Sorta makes sense as the instanced zone is so far only really designed in missions to have a max of 8 people. Yet I also remember reading someone say that two teams of 8 people can head off against each other...

So is the total capacity for a battle zone... 8... or 16?

If so... does that mean up to 4 teams with 4 people each? For a total of 16 people? Or some combination there of as long as total people is under 16? Or is it 8?

I imagine these are issues still being hammered out in the details, but I found this a bit confusing.

If we had a complete free for all of 16 people... Wow... That would pretty wild. And then have multi-teams against each other. Wow. Even if it was a large number of Duos... It would really put a spin on free for all, and/or group (paired) dynamics.

I still hope there is an eventual clarification on how many total people can be in an instanced arena combat at one time. Total of 8, or total of 16?

Ganging up on opposing teams seems like a perfectly reasonable strategy to me. If the victory condition is to be the last team standing they'll have to defeat each other in the end anyway.

This is all sounding VERY cool. I have another interesting idea, which harkens back to the good old days of Mechassault on XBox Live...

When in PvP, make it such that a player's existing inventory of inspirations cannot be used (but are not lost, they're just put in limbo for the duration of the battle). Have inspirations appear in the arena during battle, and have these be the only ones which can be used during battle. It would make for some awesome tactical decisions during the fight to decide whether to make a run for the big purple brass ring, etc...

Just an idea. I realize this type of idea is ripe for spawn camping, but there's certainly no shortage of tactics which can be used to subvert that behavior.

Arena sounds better and better the more I hear about it. Thanks. Hope to see it soon.

While we are on the topic of entertaining combat.

For the future, how about an exaggerated increase to Knockback. Where you actually fly off into parabolic arcs for several (dozen) yards. It would certainly add the classic superhero feel where the heroes get thrown far and get stopped by objects like buildings leaving cracks in the wall (a texture overlay that decays after a few minutes?) or going through (breakable environment). This need not be very often.

On topic of cracks, how about cracks in the wall and certain breakable components added to environments such as walls. Especially cool if you can find hidden areas or just simply go through it as a shortcut to a later area. And a fun way to find it would be to get thrown through it.

I wonder how much more effort it would take to generalize this to allow for "friendly fire" contests. In other words, fights in which AoE affects *everyone*. Would be interesting, don't you think, if AoE damage could theoretically smack your own team mates, and conversely, enemies could actually "steal" AoE buffs?

Should make combat with illusion/radiation much more, err, interesting.

Sweet, I cant wait to smack down some fools with my Mind/Empathy controller...

oh wait...

Well at least i can kick some serious butt when I drop a burn patch down and...hm, wait taunt will be useless.

Well I can drop some mines down, set a trap and...wait, thats a no go either.

so are you going to start allowing people to buff themselves, if you are going to allow free for all modes? If its my MC against soemone else, being able to actually use 90% of the powers in the empathy line might actually be cool.

Not to mention I want to know how something like Confuse, or Fear, or TK will work
