I just tried to do this, it is very difficult
Uhm yours is better that the one that one! IMHO!

Bert I really like your entry as well, do you have a bigger version of it though?
[/ QUOTE ]
Alrighty... here it is. Had to get a better hosting system.
I posted it at it's highest resolution, as it can be scaled down as needed. I'm glad y'all liked it.
Wow! When I woke up today, I didnt expect this much anger and spite. I got a sharp pang of disappointment when seeing the winners gallery, but Im sure all the losing entrants did.
I figured a couple nah, I would have picked a different winner for such-n-such place, but a general posting of goodwill. You know, like in the Halloween Costume Contest. I do understand why people would be upset that their wallpaper isnt getting any recognition, but thats no reason to go on a vitriolic post frenzy.
On the other hand, I really would like to congratulate the winners on a job well done. I would have picked differently on a couple, but thats just me.
So to summarize:
Winners - Well done!
Losers (Of which I am one) - Stop complaining so much, its poor sportsmanship.
My Mom - Hi Mom! Im on the TEE VEE!
Canada Seriously though, your flag = the awesome.
Veronica Corningstone - Id like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party.
Ian - Very well. Ian, would you like to go to a party in my pants?
Everyone else - Hey, hows it going.
AutoRPD - *tips hat* Howdy Mayor.
What was I doing
oh. Right. Sorry, Im rubbish at summarizing.
Onward, to the next context, AND BEYOND! (Or maybe just to the next contest. ._.)
Just in case, I backed Bert's up on my server, too.
Mirror'd!
Edit: "Id like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party." is now my favorite quote ever.

Wow, I don't think GillBates' is better then the 1st place winner but it's definitely better then the 2nd place or the 2 runner's up (and I thought their's were pretty damn good). Good job!
[ QUOTE ]
I asked for verfication in both email and on a forum and was not responded to.
[/ QUOTE ][ QUOTE ]
I am so upset, mostly because I have no idea if you guys even got mine since you didnt send out an email saying at least even thank you for the entry or even acknowledging it when I emailed you asking for some sort of indication if you got it.
[/ QUOTE ]Have you considered the fact that they DIDN'T get your email, maybe they didn't get either of them?
[ QUOTE ]
I also think it was strange how they posted some of the entries while the contest was still going on. I say this because by doing so it gave people submitting after that the luxury of knowing what their competitors submitted
Perhaps the people voting took that into consideration when they picked the winners, because it sure does look that way.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is the odd thing to me as well. It's like those entries that were posted early were the finalists and they had already made there decisions based on those. I also understand that they couldn't show all of the entries, but I did expect to see new ones posted today. I'm fine with not winning, but what's hard to believe is that these are the best entries in the contest. By not showing any others, it give the wrong impression(at least to me)!
[ QUOTE ]
Please dont present logic and sense to the rabid fanboi as it will send him into a tizzy. I too agree that they should be posted, and some sort of acknowledgement should be made.
I still think even a badge, with a pen and pencil, called CoH Feild Artist or something to that effect for the people who submitted something would be a nice gesture, since it is apparent they didnt really have a good system set up to acknowledge if they got the pics in the first place.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is really what this is all about, eh? Your poor ego? You "poured" your hard work into it and you didn't get the pat on the head you wanted? So now, you whine like a baby and take the fun from the people who DID win.
You say you and "so many others" have seen wallpapers posted that were "much better" than the ones in the gallery. Big whoop. You were not a judge in this particular contest, were you. Personally, I did not think your wallpaper was all that grand, as wallpapers go. Like many of the entries, it was way to busy and bright to be a wallpaper on my own desktop. My favorites were the understated ones like the all black with the Arch Villains in card form on the right side and the Confronting Dr Vahz, which is now my desktop wallpaper.
What you want, which I see right through, is your artistic ability (which is good, btw) to give you an edge. You disdain the use of "altered screenshots", for that is what most of us normal, un-artistic people can do. I can manipulate a screenshot. Many folks can. I cannot draw freehand. Sure, I could make stick figure super heroes and paste them into a nice background, but that will certainly pale to even a three-year-old artist's ability. I guess I wonder why people decide actual footage is not good enough, that their own renderings are so much better than portraying the game *as it truly is*.
Listen, if you want accolades and exposure, host your own site and do with it what you desire. While I agree with the non-notification issue, I can only say, You did not win. Sorry. Move on.
I think GillBates wallpaper compositionally better. Though the bust of Statesman is more forceful in the winning entry, I think the use of layout and color show more complexity. In addition, there's a more powerful use of typography in his entry than I feel is there in the winners.
This is not directed at anyone, and I replied to the last post simply because it was the last post.
This was an art contest, and I know little about art, but since this is an opinion thread, I always have one of those. Cut and paste for some apparently means art, it is possible an entrant was allowed to resubmit and there is no way everyone will agree on fair.
Some of the entries that were listed earlier on the web were removed and others posted. Perhaps it is lack of space, but the Halloween Contest had many more entrants posted than this. It would be great if they had room for everyone, if they don't, well that's how it is.
Cryptic, NC and the judges decided who was best. Just like any contest that is judged by opinion, it is impossible to qauntify the outcome. Art, books (fiction at least), movies, etc... I think that there were better entries. I think that cut and paste is orders of magnitude below hand work or fresh creation. I think some people will be sour grapes no matter what, and that some have legit complaints, at least about the rules.
I think we all pay our money to play the game, and the contests are cool bonuses. I think it's nice to see forums that let you vent or express your pleasure/displeasure like this. I think several of the posters have art that rocks, and I would buy it for wallpaper or just as images. When it all comes down, there is only one first place and one second in a contest, but does anyone who competes in the Olympics deserve to be called a loser?
If you submitted, you are probably part of less than 1% of the players who had the guts to stick your name up for ridicule or praise. Did you win the smoooooth Video Card or T-Shirt? No, but you got our respect, hand drawn or not.
/salute to you all.

Hmm, I can see where your're coming from...but I disagree that Gates' bust is more forceful. I thought the 1st place winner's was a lot more forceful...better use of lines. To put it generally, I thought the 1st place winner's version of Statesmen looked "tougher" and more rugged. More of a grizzled hero. Which is why (IMHO) the 1st place entry edged out his (but not by much).

Well said.
Of all the ones posted, I liked the Rikti one the best. This includes ones posted by other people. It is simple, the colors aren't glaring or annoying, it's not busy at all. It's simple and elegant. It also reminds me a bit of Tony DiTerlizzi's work at least in coloration.
The majority of the ones that people are claiming "should have won", I would never use as a wallpaper. Some are cool looking (like Bert's), but they're too cluttered to work as a wallpaper on the back of a computer screen. Maybe as a poster on the wall of my bedroom, but not a wallpaper.
You know, I really love how with every contest Cryptic holds, you get people that are completly insistent that everything is rigged and that dirty dealings took place. Reminds me of the McCarthy era...
Nice wallpaper Bert, quite surprised you weren't a runner up.
However, MAJOR PROPS to my team-mate Veikira! That entry was awesome and reminded me a bit of Jim Lee's art.
Congratulations buddy.
I don't think the contest was rigged, I don't think that's what being suggested. I think the problem is appearance. They shouldn't have shown any of the entries until after the contest. By showing those entries and then only those entries were winners seems suspect. That's is what I think is pissing some contestants off.

Perfectly stated.
AutoRPD, I actually agree with you for once. Don't let it happen again.
Hey Caen. It's a contest. You didn't win. Get over it.
Oh and Auto's wallpaper for teh win.
O ye that love cake! Ye that love to lick and nibble, stand forth! Freedom to taste and savor hath been hunted round the boards. If I am to be denied my cake ere long, let it be said that I went to my fate with a face full of creamy frosting and a smile on my face.
Go. Nibble. Lick Cake!

I can see the strings! Curse you all, can't you see them?! Statesman never went to the moon, it's all a dirty commie conspiracy!
Unhand me!
Auuuuugh!
EDIT: To those saying "Yaarr! Having your wallpaper in teh gallery made you a winnzor! Unfair!", mine was in the gallery, and I didn't win. Should I be complaining that I got ripped off? Look, you either won or you didn't win.
This too shall pass, and when you are greying and old, you most certainly won't raise a shaky fist and wheeze "Curse you COH... curse yooooou...."

So how'n the heck did you get all those bad guys to pose for you?
Seriously - the cut and paste job must have been murder, getting all the lighting to be consistant, getting everyone faced the same way, that sort of thing.

This was an art contest...

Really?!? And here I thought it was a computer WALLPAPER contest. You know, the neat little images that sit behind all your desktop icons? The stuff that you don't want looking TOO busy that it camoflages your computer's icons.
Wallpaper should be stylish and somewhat subdued in order to actually be funtional as a desktop background. Part of the judging was probably the judges actually USING the entries as a wallpaper.
Go ahead, USE them as wallpaper and she which ones look the best.
In my opinion, they should have made it a full-blown Theme contest with background, icons, cursors, etc.

'course, I was robbed, robbed I tell ya!
Congratz to the winners.. I won't complain or anything about any of the entries cause this will not change a thing... All this complaining is useless , Just congrat the winners and post your wallpaper and move on. Now with that being said here is mine lol
Wallpaper
*Edit* Since all the entries can not be posted on the site.. Is there anyway to maybe zip up the Highest Res version of each of the entries and put that up on the site for download? I say highest res so the file size can be smaller then having all the ones in it , And the highest res can always be shrunken down to other sizese. *Edit*
