  1. Sho, I feel the same way. I'd like to "learn" the TFs and Strikeforces better to feel more confident in running with the "veterans"

Thanks I used Mid's way back when and got the new version. I will be playing with it like you, dreaming... lol
  3. Thanks all. Mid's had a great work up that helped. I also learned alot on the wiki page. I also stood in front of the poor Wentworth agent for about 2 hours. lol That time was cut down with the info from the other places.

I've got the starting point now, so now comes the fun with experimentation

Thanks for the help and the welcome back
  4. Hello. I am returning to the game after a long absence. (Going Rogue was just released.) I have come back and am having headaches trying to figure out what recipes are out there, which ones to create for my characters, and what sets are available and do what. Is there a place where this info can be found? Even places with partial info would be a good start. I am not finding anything through the search function, so I am turning to the friendly neighborhood forums of Liberty for any help. Thanks
  5. Here's a few I took. No GUI in them, though. No stars either
  6. This sounds like fun, AV! I'll be there

[hehehe AV = Arch Villain / American Valor Coincidence? I think not!]
  7. Another good one. Still wiping the tears from my eyes.

    And Happy Birthday!

I've updated the Demo Launcher with a demo fixer. Since Issue 3, players have not been saving correctly. This little extra will pull in your demo, fix the bad players, and save it back to another file (the demo name plus " Fixed").

Thanks, Zloth. What do you mean "not saving correctly"? I want to make sure I am not messing up on my end
  9. Excellent post, Capt_Neem!

My main is a EMP/RAD defender (only 15th level) and I feel fairly "balanced", thus far. I will admit that my secondary suffers due to the great powers avaliable in my primary. But I see myself catching up here shortly.

I created another defender who is Rad/Dark. I chose these becasue as I was looking at the debuffs, between these two it seems most get taken care of. I just wanted to mention that I think this combination is the most diverse debuffers in this AT, though I could very well be wrong. RAD can debuff DEF, ATT Speed, Movement, and DAM. Dark Blast can debuff ACC with just about every attack.

Just my thoughts on a great compilation!
  10. Thank you LadyMage for this great, informative, and best of all, open guide. You provided the basic information and left the decisions to those reading it. I appreciate that.

I do have one question about Absorb Pain. You shared:
    [ QUOTE ]
Damage(self): This also scales with level, from 30 at second, to 108 at 50th.

    [/ QUOTE ]
How much health does a defender have at 50? At low levels, when we have 109 health at 2nd level, 30 points is a lot! My highest defender is at 17th and he has 358 health. So looking at the 109 health loss at 50th, I am thinking the ratio gets better and better. I never took this power before because of the health hits, but the way you presented it here has me rethinking my EMP defenders. Even with my free respec, I doubt I will pick this up before 20, but it is definitely in my "must have" list.

Thanks again... What a great guide

Please dont present logic and sense to the rabid fanboi as it will send him into a tizzy. I too agree that they should be posted, and some sort of acknowledgement should be made.

I still think even a badge, with a pen and pencil, called CoH Feild Artist or something to that effect for the people who submitted something would be a nice gesture, since it is apparent they didnt really have a good system set up to acknowledge if they got the pics in the first place.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is really what this is all about, eh? Your poor ego? You "poured" your hard work into it and you didn't get the pat on the head you wanted? So now, you whine like a baby and take the fun from the people who DID win.

You say you and "so many others" have seen wallpapers posted that were "much better" than the ones in the gallery. Big whoop. You were not a judge in this particular contest, were you. Personally, I did not think your wallpaper was all that grand, as wallpapers go. Like many of the entries, it was way to busy and bright to be a wallpaper on my own desktop. My favorites were the understated ones like the all black with the Arch Villains in card form on the right side and the Confronting Dr Vahz, which is now my desktop wallpaper.

What you want, which I see right through, is your artistic ability (which is good, btw) to give you an edge. You disdain the use of "altered screenshots", for that is what most of us normal, un-artistic people can do. I can manipulate a screenshot. Many folks can. I cannot draw freehand. Sure, I could make stick figure super heroes and paste them into a nice background, but that will certainly pale to even a three-year-old artist's ability. I guess I wonder why people decide actual footage is not good enough, that their own renderings are so much better than portraying the game *as it truly is*.

Listen, if you want accolades and exposure, host your own site and do with it what you desire. While I agree with the non-notification issue, I can only say, You did not win. Sorry. Move on.

    Gilfred:
Are you saying that you are a programmer and if you were one of the devs you could release this issue with zero bugs? How long would you take one year, two years, or maybe three years because you are afraid of releasing it with bugs.

Remember this is not the only mmo that has released updates with bugs. I have been told that SWG was released with bugs and all updates had bugs (although I have never played it).

All the poster is trying to say is the devs are not perfect and will make mistakes. Now I would like you to prove to me that the devs never fixed a single bug at all. Yes never, this means this game would have the same bugs that it started with. This would need to be true in order for your statement to be true.

    [/ QUOTE ]
A program will have bugs. Why Jack set up a test server is very unclear to me. MANY of the bugs REPORTED on Test Server were IGNORED! That is shoddy workmanship. Issue 2 had overpowered minions for low levels. That was bugged, reported on, and made known to the Devs. Jack said, "oops." What an unprofesional attitude. this company makes (100,000*$15) $1,500,000/Month. One and a half million. Why they cannot come up with developers that can approach programming better than they have for I2 and I3, escapes me.

In EQ, they ocassionally wanted to test the load in new programming. GMs would come onto every server and ask players to log onto the test server and help test. STILL EQ released crappily done software. I never experienced the crap let out the door here though.

Players whine and whine "WE WANT MORE CONTENT!!! WE WANT MORE CONTENT!!!" So the company releases things TOO early. So some of the blame goes onto the player base. But it is ultimately the company who make the decision to release or not.

Bugs. There is a difference between unknown and known bugs. What CoH has released is a myriad of KNOWN bugs.

Yeah it's a game. Yeah, the standards are lower than REAL software. What was I thinkng?

And for those that want to "own me"? Whatever helps ya sleep better at night.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
He did not say acceptable. He said inevitable. Those are two very different things. What he means is no matter how much testing you do, there will always be some bugs that slip though. It's just a fact of programming.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually, you are correct. Two different words. HOWEVER, accepting that bugs are inevitable IS accepting them. They no longer try to get rid of them.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Yes, there are some bugs - that's inevitable.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Why? Why are bugs acceptable? Would you write accounting software with such low standards? Where is your sense of pride, Jack?

This whole (bugs are acceptable) attitude simply astounds me...
  15. [ QUOTE ]
SHould you be able to solo everything. No. Get over it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Why not?

    [ QUOTE ]
I couldn't give it an effect, or the playerbase would be upset that we are "charging money to give some Heroes an advantage over others", and rightly so.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've a hard time describing how proud I am to be subscribed to a game whose developers publicly state the fact it'd be bad to give uberness in exchange for money.

I know it wasn't so for games I had been subscribed in the past. Which is why I'm not there anymore. /em clap

    [/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, they do. How long does it take an average player to reach level 50? How many months of subscribing will I need to PAY in order to try the new Kheldian? All the new "Epic ATs" are the same. People are PAYING for these. If it is not avaliable at creation to everyone, you pay for it through monthly subscriber fees. Makes sense, since many level 50's are possibly thinking of leaving, so this is CoH's "upper level content" fix.
  17. Thank You, CB_GB. This a GREAT guide, not only useful in Task Forces, but grouping in general.

I do have a question, though, as you mentioned in your update as well as your original
    [ QUOTE ]
    - Start it by speaking with Positron in SC. You need a team of 3-8, levels 10-16.
    - Totally possible with 3 chrs, but by starting with 6, we did fine even after losing two.
    - It's ok if level 16 chrs level up to 17 during the mission.

    [/ QUOTE ]
St. Valentine is 17th level and I thought I would look into the Positron TF. Have I missed my chance? I thought I recall someone mentioning months ago that 21 was the cap on this. Can anyone clarify on this, please?

    From the Esteemed Miss Aurora:
The players who earned their levels and powers want to use those powers. We want to be challenged when using everything available to us. You don't see baseball players tying one arm behind their back during a game just to make it more challenging. Instead the crappy players train to get better.

And that's what the mice in CoH should do. Stop running away from their own shadow, actually take the time to learn how all their powers work and try to think of situations where they can be used to their full advantage (i.e. using Force Bolt to knock a powerful off a walkway over the railing, buying some time to recover), and just learn to play the game more intelligently, rather than whining on the forums to get the difficulty of the game nerfed.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    1) Baseball is a job. You don't do your best and you don't get paid. CoH is a GAME!
    2) Life pushes me to my limits enough, thank you. I do not need to play a game to feel "all powerful" and "challenged".
    3) None of Solo_4114 suggestions said anything about "powers". He did mention the use of inspirations, which I notice *you* seem to pop like steroids. Why do you do that? Is the game too tough for you do "unenhanced"?
    4) "Running away". Interesting that *you*, who is so proud of that Electric Eel demo, would say that. What you call "Tactics" I see as cowardly.
    "Take that, Electric Eel!"
    "And THAT!"
"EEK! I am getting beat! RUN AWAY!!! RUN AWAY!!!!"
    *pant pant puff puff*
    /rest
    (round 2)
    "Take THAT, Electric Eel!"
    And "That!"
"WOO HOOO!!!!!! I am the all powerful Miss Aurora! I OWN YOU!!!!"
yea... real heroic there. You have the ability to rest up. Villains I have met do not. yup. You're one helluva gamer there. And intelligent, too. Oh yes, cannot forget intelligent.

Basically, Miss A, I am truly unimpressed with your MMOG prowess. I am happy that you like the game post Issue 2. I am also happy that you feel vindicated now and feel the superiority that you have so longed for now.

    enhh...

    From Felicity_Flame:
Please, just give us a slider now, so those who want to employ tactics in a battle and those who want who want a simple push buttons/guarentee outcome experience can go their separate ways.

    [/ QUOTE ]
While this is a great idea, where are the Devs supposed to get this "slider"?
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Why don't you try reading the thread Solo... instead of posting useless ideas that don't have any merit in game. You can't take missions above your level just because you want to. Street hunting is boring and stupid and something that I honestly think does not belong in the game. It should not be so prevalent.

Bugging people to join your group only to kick them out a moment later is a really stupid idea. For one, it only lasts for the first floor of a mission. Two, it could garner you a bad rep in game for joining and quitting groups. Three, it takes too long. I have a limited amount of time to play. I don't need to waste the time I have cajoling people into joining my group. They have better things to be doing and so do I.

Not using inspirations or certain powers is just dumbing down yourself which is also flat out stupid. I will not play that way. I will use every means available to my characters to defeat the enemy. I will not play dumb. The rest of you can just learn to play smarter and everyone will be better off in the end.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I am just basking in the greatness that is... Miss Aurora.

Solo_4114 came up with "suggestions" on how to make the game more difficult and your response is... "That's NOT the way *I* play!" Talking to a wall delivers more intelligent conversation than these posts do.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
    From Miss Aurora:
I speak from personal experience while playing in the Hollows and doing missions with groups and solo. There are more people in game that I've met with personally that are enjoying the new difficulty then there are not enjoying it. Hanging around the Atlas entrance you hear a lot of stuff in broadcast and local and you get a general feeling about the area just by listening to the people you group with.

    [/ QUOTE ]
A flaw... I do not enjoy the game and have not signed on for over a week now. I wonder if others who are displeased with the game also do that. I thought someone of your "stated" intelligence and background would surely take this into account of your samplings.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Correct, which is why all these posts about the game being too difficult should not be listened to by the devs. They're trying to speak for the majority when it is clear they are not. Otherwise you would see many, many, many more posts about the Hollows than there are.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I cannot speak for anyone else, but *my* posts have been stated to be "my opinions" and experiences. I don't need to bring in any self-supporting words like "everyone", "all", or even "most" to my posts. I stand by my opinions and state them as such. You may call me anything you desire. You may call my posts anything you desire (ie: whiney). I truly do not hold you in high enough esteem to warrant any personal injury from your opinions.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
You need to choose a new label because calling someone coward sparks very harsh, angry reactions. This is not an incredibly wise course of action on your part, and if you continue to do so I will contniue to report it until you either are stopped or banned. Period.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It is OK, Kazarak. Miss A's opinion of me truly does not matter. Besides... I have been called far worse by far better people. LOL
  24. [ QUOTE ]
    From Miss Aurora:
Um hello. I'm not a power gamer.

    [/ QUOTE ]
um hello. You ARE a power gamer. Your attitude belies this. No "casual gamer" would make the posts you make.
