Awsome necro post Dawnslayer!! LOL!! the irony that he described the whole outline for brutes back in 04 when cov was an idea in the back of someones head is quite amusing to me.

The amount of posting done on the main subject was simply imense. when all the talk about a dmg bump was started, everyone was happy about it. To bad to compensate they nerfed the defenses of tanks into the floor. sigh, hindsight is 20/20 i suppose.

LOL, i just cant get over how he describes the idea of a brutes fury bar perfectly in a post on how tanks are going to be fixxed...there are a lot of "newer" posters and players that think states and crew just want tanks to go away and become brutes in the end...the way this post fits with that is simply deliceous.

It is true that Tanks are not wanted as they are.

Every single change in the AT has made them LESS COMICBOOKY to use Zeus' own words.

Damage? Tanks do damage? Muhahahahahah!

Try playing next to a Claws/Dark scrapper. Thats damage.

Just pull the damn trigger and make Tanks into Brutes.

Essentially, each hit (if successful) will give you a short term damage buff. Different powers would have different buffs; but if you could string enough hits together you can "peak" your damage.

And then he gave it to brutes.

This is too funny.

Not only that, he gave the current tanker inherent in a slightly weaker form to brutes too as a FREEBIE!!

Yup.. we can see what he was thinking... COV is where the new customers are.

And one of the reasons I chose not to play it.

Still loving CoH, even if CoH doesn't love me back as much as it used to.

No, they tried to give it to Tanks and found it was obscenely overpowered (look at the output Brutes can do and imagine that with Tanker defenses even now).

It's not as though they stole something from Tanks to give to Brutes; they just repurposed an idea they couldn't make work with Tanks.

Be angry about the fact that they haven't even tried to fix #3 on that list, and have subsequently hacked away at #1 and #2, not about something they actually haven't done.

We brutes would like to thank all the tanks out there. If it wasn't for you and your lacking we would have never been as cool as we are today. Don't worry. We will still consider the memories of tanks fondly... Kinda like one thinks back to an old uncle thrown into an old folks home.. Don't worry Uncle Tank.. We'll visit you on Christmas

The kind that watch things happen

Exactly. They tried it and it was overpowered on a tank.

The fixed #1. I don't really feel compelled to comment on #2 at this time. #3 was a non-issue in my mind. Tankers have all kinds of great knockup/down/back and disorients attached to their attacks. Some are even AoE. Tanks can play the front-man of most teams. What's not comic-booky about that?

I can see how a superstrength powered punch could hurt less than being pierced by a sword or a 12 inch long claw... So I can understand why my SS tanker doesnt do scrapper like damage thematically... Wolvie probably packs more damage than Captain America...

But it would have been nice to give tankers enhanced damage vs objects... Captain America would probably destroy a crate faster than Wolverine... Superman would mostlikely go through a steel door quicker then Batman...

Thematically it would have helped with #3

It certainly was a huge issue when written. Back in the days the two most popular types of "tank" Tankers were rooted and their damage -- when they had an enemy in range to swing at, not a common occurence -- was completely irrelevant to the team. The gameplay for an Invulnerability or Stone Tanker was to lay down his defenses, thus rooting himself; put Provoke on automatic and assist a Scrapper; then wait. If your team had TP friend you could go AFK at that point, the team would just move you from spot to spot, and your character would perform pretty much as well as it would with you at the keyboard.

That was pure "Provoke-bot" gameplay. The Tanker *could* be adventurous and try to do more than stand there and Provoke repeatedly, but at best are it wouldn't matter, and at worse it would detract from his performance.

It was nothing even approaching a comic-book experience.

It was also the days were Fire was an uber-damage machine and Ice was nigh-on unviable, so they were sort of left out of the entire discussion.

If you're going to define the comic book brick as someone with knockdown and knockup powers, then that's really all there is to say, isn't it?

The difference between a Tanker and a comic Brick is the difference between an Armoured Personnel Carrier and an actual Tank.
